The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Ten Dogs

Ye Feng stared at the ten freshly weaned puppies in a large cardboard box, torn between laughter and exasperation.

”Brother Li, didn’t we agree on two?”

Officer Li gave a sheepish smile. ”Our department does only need two, but these were strongly requested by our sister agencies.”

”The truth is, stories of Dahuang’s exploits spread so fast that he’s become the dog every officer dreams of having.”

”Don’t worry, we’ll cover their food! Even if the force has to go without meat, we’ll make sure these pups eat well.”

Ye Feng scratched his nose. ’They’ve already been brought all the way from the K-9 academy,’ he thought. There was nothing to be done.

It was the weekend, and Yang Jianguo had personally brought Yang Minmin over to play.

When Officer Li showed up with a large cardboard box containing ten puppies, Han Xiaorui could feel her frustration mounting.

”Do they think my home is a K-9 academy?”

Officer Li chuckled sheepishly and rushed to explain, worried Han Xiaorui would refuse to raise them.

”Ms. Han, please don’t be upset. The Jinshan Bay Police Station will be finished soon. Once it is, we’ll assign officers to handle the cleaning and bathing the dogs. We absolutely won’t cause you any trouble.”

”We brought money for their food, so you won’t have to spend a thing! We would be eternally grateful if you would just help raise and train them!”

Just then, Yang Minmin, Pingping, and An’an gathered around the box, gasping in delight.

Who could say no to such adorable puppies?

Three pairs of wide eyes stared at the fluffy little pups. ”Mama, puppies... so many puppies...”

Hearing Pingping and An’an’s excited voices, Cai Wenjun dashed in from the main gate, his eyes sparkling with life.

”I want a puppy! I want one! Give them all to me...”

Han Xiaorui stopped him. ”Hold on. Have these puppies had their shots?”

Officer Li quickly answered, ”They’ve been dewormed, vaccinated, and passed their health checks. They’re perfectly clean!”

”Ms. Han, we know we’re imposing on you. But Dahuang’s case-solving abilities are just too incredible!”

”It’s not just our station that’s green with envy; the other agencies are too. We have to ask you to help raise them.”

”Our city, Shencheng, is a key city at the forefront of the country’s reform and opening-up policy. Migrant workers and the generation that was sent to the countryside are all flooding back.”

”On top of that, foreigners are coming to invest and build factories. The population is diverse and transient, which has led to a rise in crime. With our current investigative techniques, our case-solving efficiency is low.”

”We all know the first twenty-four hours after a crime is committed is the golden window for solving it. After that, crucial traces and scents can disappear. That’s why police dogs are so important to us.”

Officer Li had brought Ye Feng along to help persuade her, and she had to admit, she understood the officer’s predicament.

”Alright, fine. I’ll train these ten police dogs for you. But I suggest you send a female officer here to help raise them with us.”

”I’m not trying to shirk my responsibilities. I’m just worried that if you don’t have someone here, the dogs won’t want to leave with you once they’re grown.”

Hearing this, Officer Li’s gaze fell on Dahuang, who was notoriously attached to home, and he nodded vigorously.

”Yes, yes, you’re right! That’s a top priority!”

Otherwise, they’d train them perfectly only for the dogs to refuse to leave.

And even if they were taken away by force, the dogs would be resentful and act out.

They’d be out ten dogs in one go.

Once the matter of the puppies was settled, Han Xiaorui asked, ”The interrogation with Luo Guang—did they find out who the mastermind was?”

Officer Li’s expression turned serious. ”He confessed. It’s a Japanese man named Yamamoto Ichiro. Ms. Han, do you know him?”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”I do. I met him at the Shencheng Foreign Trade Fair. He placed a small preorder for some of our ornamental fish.”

”He seemed so interested that I thought he was going to place a huge order. I never imagined that not only would he not place a big order, but he would also try to steal our breeding secrets.”

Officer Li’s expression was grave. ”We’ve already reported this up the chain. Your farm is a very important private enterprise for Shencheng now, one that brings in foreign currency.”

”The local police station will be operational soon, and we’ll be paying special attention to the security around your farm.”

”Thank you, Officer Li,” Han Xiaorui said gratefully.

”No need for thanks. It’s my duty to serve the people,” Officer Li replied. ”If anything comes up, just give me a call.”

Officer Li had other business to attend to, so he took his leave.

Ye Feng watched as Pingping and An’an each hugged a puppy, smiling brightly. ”The puppies are adorable.”

Han Xiaorui laughed. ”They are. I’m just worried that once these ten are raised, they’ll just bring more over. My house will turn into a professional kennel.”

Wu Jiao, who had overheard while holding a puppy of her own, came over and chuckled. ”Sister Xiao Rui, you’re already running an ornamental fish farm. Raising dogs is easier than fish. It wouldn’t be a big deal to start a dog breeding business too.”

The words were spoken casually, but they sparked an idea in Han Xiaorui.

Han Xiaorui’s eyes lit up. ”I think that’s an excellent idea for a business. Once I’ve perfected the ornamental fish and seafood farming, if I still have the energy, I’ll start raising dogs.”

”Whether it’s for investigations, drug detection, or bomb disposal, dogs have the advantage in certain fields.”

A look of delight appeared in Ye Feng’s eyes. ”Xiao Rui, when the time comes, can I invest? I love dogs too.”

Han Xiaorui stifled a laugh. She had just noticed how much Ye Feng liked dogs. ”Of course! But I’m too busy right now.”

Every time Ye Feng visited, he loved playing frisbee with Dahuang and Heizi.

After lunch, Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui went out for a walk.

Seeing no one was around, Han Xiaorui lowered her voice. ”What was all that mystery about? What couldn’t you say back at the house?”

Ye Feng chuckled. ”I’ve founded a deep-sea salvage company. The Shencheng Museum holds a thirty percent stake as a silent partner—they just collect their share of the profits. The other seventy percent is in my name.”

Han Xiaorui’s eyes widened. ”Does... does this mean you’re going to salvage sunken treasure ships?”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Yes. Doing it under a company name is less conspicuous. We’ll try to recover the sunken ships. Anything with collection value will go to the museum.”

”Anything without collection value, or some of the more controversial foreign artifacts, we’ll sell to private collectors and liquidate through various channels.”

Han Xiaorui was thrilled. ”When you salvage something, you have to let me see it!”

Ye Feng smiled, took Han Xiaorui’s hand, and they continued their walk along the shore, enjoying the sea breeze. ”I’m giving you a twenty percent stake.”

”To me?” Han Xiaorui exclaimed. ”You really don’t have to do that.”

”Of course I do. You’re the one who provided the locations of the shipwrecks,” Ye Feng insisted with a nod. ”I feel like you have a natural affinity for animals, especially marine creatures.”

”You don’t just catch a lot of seafood; intelligent sea creatures seem to seek you out for help. Like that Turtle you mentioned, and the little dolphin.”

Hearing that, Han Xiaorui accepted it with a clear conscience. ”In that case, I’ll accept. Xiao Dai is incredibly smart. With its help, finding shipwrecks shouldn’t be too hard.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”I’m looking forward to seeing just how many surprises this intelligent Turtle of yours can bring us.”

”In five days, the salvage vessel and equipment I bought from overseas will arrive at the port. Do you want to come see it?”
