The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Another Identity

Han Xiaorui was stunned. ”Really? Isn’t our grandpa in the hotel business?”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Yes. He’s building an international five-star hotel, and he has a few factories, too.”

Han Xiaorui had to give him a thumbs-up. ”No wonder our grandpa was a famous capitalist before the Liberation. He’s amazing at business. But it’s just Auntie helping Grandpa. What about Uncle?”

Ye Feng smiled. ”Uncle is a tech guy. He doesn’t like business. He went abroad when he was young and got into Stanford in the United States. He started a tech company with a few friends.”

”He’s usually very busy and has been in the United States this whole time. He’s thirty-five and still not married! He has a high IQ but is completely focused on his research. It’s also possible he’s been influenced by foreign ideas and just doesn’t want to get married. My grandma and grandpa get furious whenever they bring it up.”

Han Xiaorui’s big eyes darted around. ”At his age, still not married with kids... no wonder your grandma and grandpa are upset. After all, someone needs to carry on and expand the family’s huge business empire!”

Ye Feng gave a wry smile. ”My grandpa has asked me to quit my job and take over the family business several times. But my heart isn’t in it. When we get married, you...”

”Stop, stop right there,” Han Xiaorui quickly cut him off. ”Even if I marry you, I won’t have time. I still have to go fishing!”

A day’s absence feels like three years.

That saying wasn’t just about lovers; in Han Xiaorui’s heart, it applied to the vast sea as well.

If she stayed away from the ocean for too long, she would start to feel ill at ease.

Out on the water, breathing in that unique scent of the sea, every pore in her body seemed to relax in contentment.

And that was why she would always go fishing!

Ye Feng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Actually... actually, it’s not that bad.”

”Then why don’t you go help?” Han Xiaorui retorted. ’He wants me to be the donkey turning the millstone. If I had to go to work every day, I’d have no time for fishing.’

Ye Feng sighed. ”Thankfully, I still have my aunt. But she’s going through a divorce right now, so I’ve been helping Grandpa out recently. He’s getting on in years; it’s too much for him.”

Han Xiaorui agreed. ”Right, you should be a good grandson to him. Besides, with your family connections, you probably can’t go back to your old unit anyway. And a new post might not be what you want to do.”

Ye Feng paused, then nodded. ”Yeah. I’ll see where they assign me. If I’m not happy with it, I might actually just resign.”

Han Xiaorui blinked, thinking about turning Ye Feng into her supportive partner at home. ”Anyway, you have plenty of options, so your happiness is what matters. Your old job, with all that fighting, was too dangerous.”

Ye Feng’s eyes held a hint of grievance. ”It was actually fine. The car crash last time was an accident.”

”How could there be so many ’accidents’?” Han Xiaorui wrapped her arms around Ye Feng’s firm waist and buried her face in his chest. ”Every time, you gave it your all, throwing yourself into danger without a second thought. You’ve suffered enough, been hurt enough, and bled enough for this country. For the rest of your life, all I want is for you to be safe and sound.”

Ye Feng held Han Xiaorui, kissing her on the forehead. A tremor went through him, and his heart began to race. ”I will. I’ll be with you until we’re old.”

Han Xiaorui said softly, ”You feel like the country trained you, so you want to contribute. But I think there are more ways to contribute than just joining the army or working for the government.”

”The reason the country is undergoing reform and opening up is because it’s poor and lagging behind, right? It needs to attract foreign investment and technology to develop the economy. If you can help bring in more technology for the country and earn more foreign currency, that’s also a contribution.”

”The money you earn can be invested in scientific research. Without money, you can’t do research. I’ve heard that some researchers complain all day that ’those who build rockets earn less than those who sell tea eggs.’”

”With your family background, you’re better suited for business, and that’s also a way to contribute to the country. Anyway, I think that saying is great: ’I am a brick in the revolution, to be moved wherever I am needed.’”

”It’s like me preparing to go to Japan for a study trip. It’s not just for marine aquaculture technology; I also want to experience their aquariums and other things firsthand. Then I’ll do everything I can to help develop Jinshan Bay.”

Ye Feng smiled, the gloom in his heart dissipating completely.

”Xiao Rui, you’re right!” Ye Feng felt a sense of relief.

After leaving Han Xiaorui, Ye Feng went to visit his superior.

When Director Wang saw Ye Feng, he quickly led him inside. ”You’ve recovered well. That puts my mind at ease!”

Director Wang smiled. ”You must have made a decision, coming to see me this time.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Yes. The organization wants to use my family background as an entry point for me to coordinate with our comrades in the economic sector.”

”At first, I was reluctant to leave my current unit, but I also know that I have advantages that others don’t.”

”My elders at home are getting old and need me. My partner loves the sea and wants to stay in the fishing industry. Someone has to be there for the family. So, after considering everything, I’ve decided to follow the organization’s arrangement.”

Hearing this, Director Wang rubbed his hands together in delight. ”Good, that’s really great! Right now, there are two students about to graduate from a university in the United States. If possible, you could provide them with some assistance.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Alright, no problem.”

That very evening, the relevant departments completed all the necessary paperwork.

From that day on, Ye Feng had another identity.

Han Xiaorui had told him that scientific research required a lot of money, and money was what the country lacked most.

The higher-ups believed a large-scale war was unlikely and were implementing major demobilizations.

Ye Feng knew there were many others like him, but there weren’t many who could make money from abroad.

He had an advantage and could play a greater role.

When Mr. Xu learned that his grandson, Ye Feng, had resigned, he was very happy, but also suspicious.

”Ye Feng, tell me the truth. Your grandma and I both tried to convince you to resign and come back to help me before, but you were never willing.”

”Now you’ve suddenly resigned. Can you tell me what happened to make you change your mind?”

Of course, Ye Feng couldn’t tell his grandpa that it was an arrangement by the organization.

He smiled. ”Grandpa, I’m already twenty-seven this year! After this near-death experience, I realize I can’t just think about myself like I used to.”

”You and Grandma are getting older, and Uncle is a research fanatic who’s cooped up in his lab all day. He doesn’t date, doesn’t get married, and doesn’t have kids!”

”Auntie is capable, but she’s going through a divorce right now. We can’t push everything onto her. I receive such a large dividend every year; it’s time for me to take on some responsibility.”

”Is that all?” Mr. Xu asked, half-convinced.

Ye Feng chuckled, a bit mischievous. ”Of course, I had my own considerations, too. Xiao Rui... she loves the sea, she loves fishing. She can’t tend to family matters!”

”If I keep my old job, I’ll be away working all the time, from dawn till dusk. Once we’re married and have children, our house won’t feel like a home. Our marriage could suffer. Someone has to be there to look after the family.”

Hearing this, Mr. Xu and Old Madam Xu exchanged a look, their eyes full of meaning.

They doted on their grandson so much, only for him to fall right into Han Xiaorui’s hands in the end.

To think he would make such a huge concession for Han Xiaorui.

The two elders couldn’t help but feel like they had doted on this grandson all for nothing.
