The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 219: Chapter 219: The Reason for Almost Fighting

Han Xiaoqing shook her head. ”Sis, you guessed wrong this time! The order came from the United States! It’s for more than 200,000 US Dollars!”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui looked over at Ye Feng. ”Did you help with this?”

Ye Feng smiled. ”It wasn’t me, actually, it was my aunt! She took a lot of pictures of your ornamental fish a while back and sent them to her friend in the United States.”

”Her friend got the photos, but he didn’t place an order right away. He didn’t even tell my aunt beforehand. He just found out you were participating in this trade show.”

”He came by secretly to take a look, decided your ornamental fish were excellent, and after going back and researching the relevant information, he saw that he could import ornamental fish from Hua Country and placed the order.”

Han Xiaorui was stunned. ”Miss Xu is so kind! She found me such a huge client without saying a word!”

Han Xiaoqing nodded. ”That person also visited the fish tank factory. I heard he ordered three shipping containers of fish tanks! They’re being sent to different cities in the United States.”

”As for the ornamental fish, he did the calculations and decided to use air freight! They already shipped one batch a while ago. Each oxygenated, sealed container was packed with a lot of fish, and they arrived in great condition.”

”So he immediately placed another order. The last one was only for a few tens of thousands of US Dollars, but this one is for over a hundred thousand. The villagers are getting jealous because of all these orders!”

It dawned on Han Xiaorui. ’So that’s what happened!’ ”For Brother Jianguo to almost beat up Director Lin, it must be because Director Lin was jealous, right?”

Han Xiaoqing nodded. ”Director Lin said someone reported to him that the rent for the ornamental fish farm’s land is too cheap!”

”Of course, Village Chief Liu didn’t accept that. Sis, when you rented it, it was definitely at market price. It wasn’t cheap at all.”

”We thought the matter was over, but then someone actually reported it to the next level of government.”

”I heard an investigation team is coming in the next few days! Brother Jianguo is probably busy dealing with this.”

Han Xiaorui thought for a moment. ”I’m not afraid of an investigation. Whether it’s the rent or the related paperwork, everything is complete and in order.”

”I’ll go to the ornamental fish farm now to take a look. Brother Jianguo has been working so hard, running around for this.”

Han Xiaoqing nodded. ”Sis, this ornamental fish farm has limitless potential. Sister Cai said that while you were away these past few days, Yu Zhenxing has been bringing clients to see the farm often.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”I know. I’m going to take a look!”

On the way to the ornamental fish farm, Ye Feng offered some words of comfort. ”Don’t worry. Your paperwork is all in order. It doesn’t matter who comes to investigate; you’ll be fine!”

”Just because someone makes a report doesn’t mean they’re right or that their complaint is justified! There are plenty of people who make false accusations!”

Han Xiaorui smiled and nodded. ”I’m not scared at all! While Jinshan Bay isn’t Uncle Yang’s personal fiefdom, he still has absolute influence here.”

”Our two boats can make one or two hundred thousand each trip. To many people, that’s an astronomical figure. There are quite a few people in the village who are green with envy, just like Director Lin!”

”Now the ornamental fish farm has started operations! Because our fish will spawn multiple times a year under specific temperatures and conditions, we can guarantee our output.”

”As long as we have the technology and skilled workers, it’s a surefire business. This is much more reliable than fishing in the open sea.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”That’s right! Yesterday, my aunt’s friend even sent a special fax to praise your fish, saying they’re excellent.”

”He plans to expand his business in the future, so there will be even more orders. And you’d never guess, but kids actually prefer the smaller fish, especially the ones that can glow in the dark.”

Han Xiaorui was very happy to hear the customer feedback from Ye Feng.

Her decision to collect all sorts of freshwater and saltwater ornamental fish, especially the small ones, had been a real success.

They were easy to raise, didn’t eat much, and kids loved them.

Adults, however, preferred the larger ornamental fish with their graceful forms and diverse colors.

When she was still a few dozen meters from the farm’s entrance, she saw a car pull over and a few people get out.

As Han Xiaorui got closer, she saw that it was Yu Zhenxing, once again bringing people to tour the farm.

Judging by their appearance, they were from Europe and America.

They were speaking French, so they must be French.

Han Xiaorui couldn’t understand them, but she was surprised that Yu Zhenxing could actually speak French.

When Yu Zhenxing saw Han Xiaorui, he gave her a nod and continued his presentation to the foreign clients.

About ten minutes later, the foreign buyers were taking pictures nonstop with their cameras.

Yu Zhenxing walked over. ”Ms. Han, congratulations!”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Congratulations to you, too!”

Initially, the plan was to treat it as domestic trade, selling the ornamental fish directly to the Eastern International Trade Company.

But after some guidance from Director Chen, they changed the model to a commission-based one. This way, they could get an export tax rebate, which was a significant amount of money.

They gave Eastern International Trade a 3% commission based on the value of the goods.

This commission rate wasn’t low, but it saved them a lot of trouble.

They were only responsible for breeding the fish. All the documentation, data, inspection and quarantine certificates, and export procedures were handled by the trade company.

The trade company received foreign currency, but when it came time to settle the accounts, they paid Han Xiaorui’s farm in RMB.

In 1985, the industrial and commercial tax was divided into product tax, value-added tax, business tax, and salt tax.

This March, the State Council approved the ”Regulations on the Collection and Rebate of Product Tax or Value-Added Tax on Imported and Exported Products,” marking the establishment of the export tax rebate system.

Han Xiaorui didn’t understand the intricacies. She believed in letting the experts handle their areas of expertise.

Eastern International Trade could handle the tax rebate flawlessly, so the Jinshan Bay Ornamental Fish Farm just had to wait to collect the money.

Yu Zhenxing smiled. ”I’m a bit busy today, so I won’t give you a formal report, Ms. Han. I’ll be sure to give you a detailed update another day when I have time.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Thank you for your hard work, Yu. You go ahead and do what you need to do. If you need anything, just talk to Brother Jianguo. When you have a moment, I’d like to thank you properly.”

Yu Zhenxing smiled and didn’t stand on ceremony. ”Thank you, Ms. Han.”

To maintain a good relationship with the East Foreign Trade Company, factories would indeed give their representatives some benefits.

As long as the gifts weren’t too extravagant, the higher-ups would turn a blind eye.

Yu Zhenxing was very enthusiastic as he attended to the foreign merchants, ready to answer any questions they had at a moment’s notice.

Even he hadn’t expected that this ornamental fish farm, which he had previously overlooked, would be getting so many orders.

As a new comrade who had just been assigned to the company, being able to handle orders independently so quickly was both a test and an opportunity.

He had now completely solidified his position at the company. Moreover, Director Chen often asked him about the ornamental fish orders and frequently offered him guidance, from which he benefited greatly.

After the tour concluded, just before leaving, Yu Zhenxing let Han Xiaorui in on something.

This was a major client. They had already made their selections, and a rough estimate put the order at over a million RMB.

Now they were heading back to the company to negotiate the specific quantities, prices, and trade methods.

Han Xiaorui was, of course, delighted. It proved that business at the Jinshan Bay Ornamental Fish Farm was booming and the money was pouring in.

Han Xiaorui was only thinking about making money; she hadn’t realized just how desperately the country craved foreign currency.

What happened next was beyond her expectations.
