The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 238: Chapter 238: His ”Dream Dog

Lin Yongfu finished speaking and immediately regretted it.

He wasn’t afraid of Yang Zhigang dumping him in the sea anymore, but now he was facing prison time.

Seeing Lin Yongfu hesitate, Yang Jianguo punched him in the stomach. ”Spit it out! You know we can have your entire family erased from the household registry.”

At this point, they were doing everything they could to scare Lin Yongfu.

At a time like this, no one cared about civilized law enforcement or not beating suspects!

The police officer turned his face away. If he didn’t see it, it didn’t happen. As long as they didn’t kill him, it was fine.

Kidnapping someone’s child... Lin Yongfu should be thankful he was living in a society ruled by law, which was the only thing protecting him from being beaten to death.

Yang Zhigang couldn’t have become the biggest ship owner in Jinshan Bay and the surrounding areas if he weren’t a ruthless man.

”Who took the child? Where did they take her?” the police officer began to question him.

How could Lin Yongfu dare to hide anything now? ”A man named Luo Guang drove to the seafood market, pretended to be buying seafood, and then stuffed the kid in the trunk.”

The officer asked again, ”What make of car? What color? What’s the license plate number? Which direction did it go?”

Lin Yongfu swallowed hard. He wanted to take a few deep breaths, but the moment he looked up, he saw the murderous glares from Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo and instinctively shrank back.

”It was a Santana, a black one. The plate... I don’t remember the license plate. But I remember Luo Guang was wearing a blue suit today.”

”Around seven o’clock, he left the seafood market and took the road east toward the city. As for where he went, I really don’t know.”

Yang Jianguo clenched his fists, squared his stance, and looked ready to hit Lin Yongfu again.

Terrified, Lin Yongfu quickly begged for mercy. ”Don’t hit me, don’t hit me! I’ll tell you everything. Luo Guang is a translator for the Japanese. His goal is the breeding techniques and feed technology from the ornamental fish farm. They probably won’t hurt Yang Minmin until they get what they want.”

Yang Jianguo demanded, ”How do you know that? Are you in on this with that Luo Guang guy?”

”No, we’re not! I was forced into it. Last month, Luo Guang just asked me to get him a bag of feed. Me and Wang Lvzi got a bag of feed from the ornamental fish farm for him.”

”This time, he wanted to kidnap someone. I refused, but Luo Guang threatened me. He said if I didn’t agree, he’d tell Yang Jianguo what I did before. I was afraid of having my reputation ruined, so... so I agreed.”

Yang Zhigang cursed, ”You idiot! If you had just told us about this, who would have cared that you stole a bag of fish feed? You’re just fucking blinded by greed, your heart’s in the wrong place.”

”Do you know where this Japanese translator, Luo Guang, lives? Where does he work?”

Lin Yongfu shook his head. ”I don’t know. I met him in the city, I just remember his face. I never thought he’d seek me out...”

While one officer questioned him, another was on the phone reporting to the city precinct. ”Seven o’clock, leaving the seafood wholesale market heading toward the city. Black Santana, male, around thirty-five years old, blue suit...”

Few people drove cars back then, so it shouldn’t be hard to track him down.

His stomach aching from the beating, Lin Yongfu led them to the place where the handoff occurred. Dahuang sniffed intently at the ground nearby.

Dahuang took off, running east along the road.

Han Xiaorui, on her little scooter, said, ”Let’s follow Dahuang and catch up.”

It was dark now, and there weren’t many cars on the road.

Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo followed close behind on their motorcycles, with the two police officers riding along.

After being raised for half a year, Dahuang weighed a hefty forty-five kilograms. He was tall and strong, and he ran with his legs at full stretch.

It got dark early this time of year. By seven o’clock, it was completely black out.

Aside from the area near the seafood market, which was brightly lit, the streetlights elsewhere were few and far between.

While it wasn’t pitch-black, it wasn’t very bright either, making it hard to see.

Even in a car, you couldn’t drive too fast.

The police in the city began investigating black Santanas that had driven over from this direction.

They followed the trail all the way to the edge of the city, where Dahuang’s pace noticeably slowed.

The crowds of people and cars were interfering with Dahuang’s sense of smell.

After pausing at an intersection for about half a minute, Dahuang took off again, heading south.

The city police had already determined that during that time frame, about six cars had come from Jinshan Bay. Three of them were Santanas, and all were black.

But before the police could find any more leads, Dahuang had already found a crucial clue.

Han Xiaorui said excitedly, ”Uncle Yang, this is Minmin’s shoe!”

Yang Jianguo’s eyes were red. ”Yes, that’s Minmin’s shoe. Dahuang, keep searching.”

The road was rough, and the scooter couldn’t get through.

A Santana probably couldn’t drive down it either.

Dahuang grew excited and bolted, running straight into a field.

Seeing Dahuang’s reaction, Han Xiaorui said excitedly, ”I bet Dahuang’s picked up a stronger scent. Minmin might be nearby! Let’s hurry after him.”

Officer Li was the fastest runner. ’Even from so far away, Dahuang can still track the scent effectively.’

’Compared to Dahuang, the police dogs back at the station are a bit lacking.’

Dahuang ran to a dilapidated temple, dropped to a crawl, and crept forward. He rested his head near the drafty doorway and peered inside.

Officer Li, following behind, saw how alert Dahuang was and felt a pang of envy.

’This is my dream dog!’

Officer Li also quieted his steps and peered through a broken windowpane. Inside, two men in their twenties were drinking and eating braised snacks.

Just as Police Officer Wang arrived, Yang Jianguo and Yang Zhigang also caught up.

Officer Li and Police Officer Wang exchanged a look, drew their guns, and burst in. ”Don’t move! Police! Hands on your head and get down! Don’t resist!”

His voice was loud, but his gun wasn’t actually loaded.

Due to past incidents of officers losing their guns, which had major repercussions, many patrol officers were issued firearms but didn’t load them.

When the two thugs saw the two dark barrels of the guns pointed at them, with so many people behind the officers, they were so scared they immediately dropped to their knees and raised their hands high.

”We surrender, we surrender! Don’t shoot!”

Seeing his daughter, Yang Jianguo rushed in without a second thought. He held his daughter, his hands trembling uncontrollably.

”Daddy!” Yang Minmin was in the middle of gnawing on a chicken leg, her mouth slick with grease.

Seeing her father, Yang Minmin threw one arm around him, but her other hand was reluctant to let go of the big chicken leg.

Yang Jianguo hugged his recovered daughter, his fierce eyes welling up with tears. ”Minmin, it’s okay. You’re safe now.”

All his worry melted into those simple words of concern.

By now, the two thugs had been handcuffed. Not daring to resist, they begged for mercy. ”Let us go! We were just watching her. We didn’t hit her or yell at her. I even gave her a big chicken leg to eat!”

Officer Li’s face darkened. ”This is kidnapping. It’s illegal, and it has nothing to do with a chicken leg. If you tell us who had you watching her, and we catch the mastermind, you’ll have a chance to redeem yourselves. I’ll speak to the judge on your behalf.”

The two thugs stopped struggling and spilled everything. ”We’ll talk, we’ll tell you everything we know. We work for Boss Hong from Qianmen Street. He asked us to watch a kid out here and said he’d give us one thousand yuan.”

Police Officer Wang, who had already found the money, asked, ”Did you get a good look at the person’s face?”

”Didn’t see it. He was wearing a mask. About 175cm tall, with a side-part hairstyle. His eyes were a bit small. That’s all.”

Now out of danger, Yang Minmin had calmed down. Her hair was messy and her face was a grimy, tear-streaked mess, but her voice was clear and bright. ”Officer, I have a clue to provide.”
