Warhammer Divine Throne

South, at the border of Boldro.

The six thousand knights led by Laine, a total army of fifteen thousand people, are gearing up for departure.

In recent years, the south of Brittania has become very prosperous. Naturally, the number of knights has increased significantly. In fact, many nobles can provide knights, but they lack the funds to equip their family members adequately.

Once equipment is available, many knight families can immediately outfit a large number of knights and their squires. Many nobles do not lack capable individuals to become knights; they lack money.

The huge camp is filled with knights’ silhouettes, and everyone is waiting for Dalheid’s reply.

If Dalheid does not reply granting Laine military passage rights, this army cannot move north to support Leonais. So even though the army is ready to depart, they must wait, while Francois has long led three thousand knights with a large amount of grain to Kulona.

Gazing at the overcast sky, Laine stands alone on a hill in the camp, looking at the distant sky, his brows tightly furrowed.

Clad in a count’s attire, the Revenge Goddess Sword hangs at his waist. This sword is about one and a half meters long, and the white gold-cup cloak behind him flutters in the air.

”Laine.” Also fully armed and valiant, Surya approaches from behind. The two stand together on the hill, not far away is the boundary line between Boldro and Musillon, the Grismore River.

In fact, Laine didn’t really want Surya to come along. The count originally hoped Surya would stay at home, leaving him to take Veronica and Teresa, who had just returned to Count Glamorgan, out instead.

But Surya insisted.

Their wedding is not far off, and the female knight is unwilling to stay at home waiting for Laine’s news. Whether victory or defeat, she will face it with him.

They are engaged to be married.

Laine persuaded for a while, but Surya was resolute. Finally, Laine smiled and said, ”Surya, I’ve always thought the greatest respect to a lady is to let you make your own choices. Do you still insist on going out to battle with me?”

”I insist.”

The count didn’t say more; he brought his fiancée to the campaign.

Laine turned around and found Veronica there too, the Jialan Witch— or perhaps one should say the Female Elder, dressed in fiery red leather that outlined her impressive figure. She respectfully greeted Surya first, then complained a bit to Laine: ”Dear, ever since I followed you, you’re always at war? Can’t you settle down and rest for a few years?”

”I wish I could, but the enemy doesn’t give us this chance.” Laine could only chuckle bitterly, ever since he arrived in Brittania, the wars have indeed never ceased: ”Perhaps I’m destined for war in this lifetime.”

”You’d better not say such inauspicious words, Laine.” Teresa also appeared, the female sorcerer returned to Glamorgan somewhat sheepishly as she hadn’t completed the winter break assignments left by Mogiana.

Upon arriving, she heard about Laine’s upcoming campaign. Mogiana had no time to bother with Teresa’s assignments. She spent several hours discussing with the Lake Fairy and Laine, and then let Laine prepare for war.

Teresa was quite afraid of Mogiana asking about the winter assignments. The female sorcerer usually avoided Mogiana, who rarely appeared publicly. This resulted in Teresa following Laine’s forces once they assembled and declared their campaign.

Similarly, Teresa also respectfully greeted Surya, which amused Laine.

Only those who have truly experienced the harsh medieval-like class system of this world understand where the gap in status lies. Since Laine has become the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy and a Count, there’s no way he could marry a witch as his wife; neither the Lake Fairy nor the nobles in the kingdom would permit it.

Veronica understood this earliest, and Teresa was forced to comprehend.

”According to frontline news, the Scalings Tribe and the forces of the Leonais Duchy and the Kingdom Army of Kulona have engaged in battle on the Nanzi Plain. The Knight Army ultimately fell, but most of the knights and their squires have now withdrawn and are entrenched in the Leonais Castle.” Teresa brought news, asking Laine: ”What do we do now? The situation is very urgent; are we just going to wait here?”

”Without news, we can only wait here.” Laine’s expression was calm: ”Our decision to deploy troops to rescue Leonais is based on knightly ethics, waiting here at the borderline is a respect for law.”

”Based on knightly ethics, we can form a relief army to aid them, but obviously, we cannot break the law to save Dalheid.” Laine turned to explain to Teresa: ”Besides causing a series of diplomatic issues, it would give critics ammunition. Whether we win or lose, if Dalheid accuses us of illegal invasion at the Royal Court, we would have to apologize and compensate for damages afterward.”

”But as I recall, Brittania’s knights would rush to support whenever the kingdom faces a crisis.” Teresa understood Laine’s meaning, saying with interest, ”Especially the Holy Grail Knights, you are models of the knightly path, living saints.”

These words had a hint of mockery and sarcasm, making Surya glance at the female sorcerer with displeasure.
