Warhammer Divine Throne

The formation of the battlefield gradually appeared before everyone.

The Knight Army of Brittania was divided into three sections. The left wing was led by the Holy Grail Knight Eisen, with two Peasant Longbow Battalions at the forefront. Eisen himself led three hundred knights and seven hundred knight squires positioned behind the left wing. In the center were large groups of peasant soldiers, these peasant conscripts were selected with great care by the Duke of Leonais, forming the Peasant Infantry Corp, holding long spears, sword and shield, forming a tight formation.

The right wing was led by Jules with five hundred knights and two thousand cavalry. Large groups of infantry corps were in the front, with Jules and five Holy Grail Knights, the Lake God Prophet Anara and Count Kaled of Galament were with him.

The most elite three thousand knights and five thousand knight squires were positioned before the central corps. Behind this large group of knights was an elite infantry corps composed entirely of sergeants, where the Duke of Dalheid was positioned.

The Duke’s legitimate son Aldred led a reserve of one thousand positioned behind the central corps.

Compared to the large army of Brittania, the Barbarians did not separate; under Egil’s command, they formed several massive phalanxes, forming a tight shield wall, ready to meet the knights’ charge.

The fierce Barbarians used shields to form a strong formation, but this could not cover their rudimentary equipment and disorganized troops. The entire shield wall was uneven, and there were many visible gaps.

”Hmph! The Northern folks living in wasteland, able to stand in such a lineup and form such a formation is already quite remarkable.” Dalheid said disdainfully as he looked at the disorganized formation of the Barbarians.

”My Duke, the knights are ready, but if we charge the Barbarian formation like this, the knights’ losses will be substantial,” said Deputy General Count Rein. He glanced at the Barbarian formation from horseback and said to Dalheid, ”We should have the archers approach first.”

The Knight Army slowly approached, while the Barbarians stood firm and unmoving like a rock.

A large group of archers in a loose formation gradually approached the Barbarian army formation, the Barbarians did not react at all, they still stood motionless.

The Duke of Dalheid nodded towards Deputy General Rein, who then rode forward, waving his hand, ”Fire!”

The left wing led by the Holy Grail Knight Eisen also slowly approached. Under orders, the archers fired arrows at the Barbarian army formation, while Jules on the right wing signaled his troops not to move; they had to be ready at any moment for the Barbarians’ counterattack.

At this moment, in the vast expanse of wind and snow, the narrow Nanzi Plain was covered in large patches of snow, many forests and mountains were blanketed in white snow.

The archers fired arrows at the Barbarian army, with dense arrow rain pouring down from above, falling onto the Barbarian army formation.

”Uh~” Many Barbarians got hit by arrows, letting out tragic cries, and the formation shook for a moment. A Barbarian Chief stood in the formation, raising his War Axe, ”No moving! No one is allowed to move!”

The poorly equipped Barbarian army had many casualties from the arrows, with most Barbarian soldiers wearing only simple leather armor, using ordinary shields to fend off arrows. The small round shields were primarily for close combat and couldn’t effectively block arrows.

The Barbarians weren’t willing to be hit for nothing, many axe-throwers and javelin throwers used long spears and flying axes to fight back, and the Peasant Archers suffered a severe blow, as most of these archers wore only thin clothes, shivering in the cold, almost dying on the spot when attacked.

Dalheid had a cold attitude towards this, the Duke himself waved to signal the knights to be ready.

The warhorses neighed, hooves slid on the ground, knights lined up in several rows, they were ready.

After three volleys, many Peasant Archers were frozen stiff, and the exchange of shots with the Barbarians resulted in heavy losses among the Peasant Archers. Many weak Peasants were already feeling very fatigued in the heavy snow.

The Barbarian formation began to waver after the three volleys as well.

”The opportunity has come! Knights! For the Lady! For Brittania! Advance!!!” Dalheid raised his Cavalry Lance, shouting angrily.

”Advance!” Nearly ten thousand Heavy Cavalry began to move their hooves, starting to advance step by step until the charge.

Dalheid took a deep breath, the Duke of Leonais closed his eyes, he began to listen to the sounds of the battlefield.

It was the sound of snow enveloping the battlefield, the sound of hooves stepping on the plains, the heavy breathing of the Barbarians, it was the sound of Brittania and the Northern Barbarians entering the battlefield.

That was, the sound of war!

The Duke himself held the Lion’s Riding Spear of the first Holy Grail Knight, the first Duke of Leonais, Sirulf. He listened to the angry roars of the knights.

Skalings, Egil, the pain you brought to Leonais, the suffering you inflicted on Leonais, today I will let you taste the fury of the Brittania people!

”Whole army! Advance!” The white Sirulf battle flag waved in the air, the knights of Brittania rolled over the plains like thundering trains, carrying unparalleled fury, launching a charge towards the Barbarian Army: ”The goal is only one, and that is Egil’s head!”

”Advance!!!” The knights swept across the fields like a stormy sea, not looking back, charging directly towards the first formation of the Barbarian Army. With disorganized troops and dropped morale, the Barbarians tried their best to raise their shields, attempting to resist the invincible charge of the knights.
