Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 383: Chapter 163, Francois’s Wisdom

PS. The game was amazing! Cross’s final kill was fantastic!

The candlelight crackled in the meeting hall as Laine contemplated the significance of this major announcement.

”So in one or two years at most, Duke Louis will completely relinquish worldly matters, bestowing the duke title upon Lord Lorne and heading to Fairy Lake to guard the Lady’s Holy Land, right?” Laine was the first to realize the implication of this signal.

There is an unspoken agreement among the dukes of the Knight Kingdom; a Holy Grail Knight can rule as a lord over his own domain, but if one of his strong declared heirs successfully completes the Holy Grail Trial and is confirmed to inherit his title, then that Holy Grail Knight will relinquish everything and proceed to Fairy Lake to guard the Holy Land.

Normally, a Legendary Tier powerhouse can live between 130-150 years, while a Legendary Tier Holy Grail Knight who has drunk the Holy Grail Water can live 170-200 years. A Holy Sanctuary Grand Knight, just by virtue of lifespan, can live nearly 400 years, and after drinking the Holy Grail Water, they can live over 600 years.

Thus, one can imagine how many figures from the previous generations are hidden among the Holy Grail Knights by Fairy Lake, and how many ancient things have witnessed the changes of several centuries.

Of course, being a Holy Grail Knight does not mean they can live in retirement for life. In fact, these elite Brittania knights face no less warfare than regular knights do. Shadows and darkness from various corners of the Kingdom need them to resolve.

”Exactly, so at this time, Louis will definitely want to stand on our side,” Francois said seriously. ”Richard isn’t even a Holy Grail Knight, and his reign is destined to be fragile and brief.”

”Hmm...” Laine understood the Duke of Winford’s intent.

To put it bluntly, in the eyes of the Red Dragon Duke and the Duke of Winford, they lack reverence for Richard because he isn’t even a Holy Grail Knight.

Thinking of this, Laine suddenly recalled something. He first raised his hand, signaling everyone to wait, and then took out a gold coin from his Space Ring: ”Wait... Lorne, Lorne-Rio Cornwall, I’ve met him!”

”That’s... the Leaping Lion Oath coin; how did you get it?” Francois saw the coin in Laine’s hand, and even the usually calm Duke of Winford was surprised.

”When I was in the Nord Kingdom, I fought Doomsday Bull Taurus on Scavell Mountain...” Laine calmly recounted his past experiences to the two dukes: ”Finally, when Lord Lorne and I parted, he gave me this coin.”

”Worthy of being the Lady’s Divine Chosen Champion!” Francois nodded repeatedly. ”Then, this matter becomes simpler. Given that Louis is already inclined toward us, and you possess this coin, he has no reason not to support us.”

”That makes three votes,” Bohemond said in a muffled voice.

”I have an old connection with Sea God Archbishop Odrich in Marinburg. Perhaps we might try to gain the support of Duke of Boldro?” Laine continued, taking out a badge, which bore a mermaid engraving.

”This is the symbol of friendship with the Sea God Church.” The voice of the Lake Fairy Chosen Champion was calm, yet the immense energy of the young man in his twenties startled the two dukes.

”Then that’s four votes,” Francois couldn’t help but admire in his voice. ”That suffices; those opposing have already exceeded one-third. I had been pondering how to convince Bodric, but since you, Laine, have a friendship with the Ocean Church, it should make gaining his support much easier.”

Duke of Boldro has always been a special existence among the Brittania dukes.

Normally, Brittania’s knights all believe in the Lake Fairy because she grants them the power of faith and knightly codes. In Brittania, becoming a Holy Grail Knight is the lifelong pursuit of all knights.

However, the Duke of Boldro is an exception. The Duke title of Boldro existed even before the founding of Brittania, and it’s rumored that the Boldro surname comes from the ocean, with the first Duke of Boldro, Marcus, being a descendant of the Sea God Manannan.

This might not be nonsense; when the Boldro family battles on the ocean, the ocean always shelters and blesses them in their relentless fights. When the Duke of Boldro raises the family heirloom ”Sea God Trident,” even on land, Sea God Manannan responds to his call, summoning massive waves from the air to flood the land.

Therefore, the Boldro family’s primary faith is Sea God Manannan, and their secondary faith is the Lake Fairy.

No one in the Mortal World prohibits believing in two deities simultaneously, and the Lady of the Lake has never said anything against this, but most dukes find the Boldro family’s actions displeasing. After all, in the eyes of most knights, the Lake Fairy should be the primary faith of a knight, though in the Knightly Path, Boldro might have excelled far beyond those knights who prefer to criticize.

The current Duke of Boldro, the Grand Master of the Sea God Knight Corps, Bodric, is courageous and tenacious. His skills in spear and sword are unparalleled in the Brittania domain, and this great knight is also extremely competent in internal affairs. Although his duke’s domain is relatively small within Brittania, its prosperity is second only to the northernmost Connet Duchy and the southern Winford Duchy. The Sea God Knight Corps commands over 80% of the kingdom’s navy and possesses knights as excellent as those of other dukes.
