Warhammer Divine Throne

”If I’m not mistaken, you’ll soon have your own territory, right?” Veronica’s eyes sparkled mischievously: ”My Great Knight?”

”If all goes well, there will be news after the Green Grass Festival.” Laine didn’t reveal everything, but he indirectly answered Veronica’s question.

Given his current influence, there is no doubt that whether it’s Brittania, the Empire, or the Nord Kingdom, they would all invite him to become a Lord because this world needs the strong. His current power is already comparable to many Knight Corps leaders.

Since he is the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy, his choice is obvious.

”Laine~”

”Hmm?”

”There’s not much time left, let’s start then. I want to take the feelings you’ve given me back to Jialan.”

”Alright, let’s begin!”

...(omitted below)...

The next morning, Laine carried the unable-to-walk Veronica out of the room. The young apprentice Catherine had already packed her belongings into a big suitcase, looking reluctantly at the three-story luxury house she had lived in.

”You sure you don’t want me to see you off?” Laine asked with a half-smile as he placed Veronica in the carriage.

”No need.” Sitting in the carriage, the beautiful eyes of the witch gazed directly at him, filled with reluctance: ”Every time we part, it makes me feel worse. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

”Separation is for a better reunion. Go back to Jialan, that’s where your talents can truly shine.” Laine gently held Veronica’s small hand and said softly.

”It used to be, but now I’m not sure... Goodbye, my dear.” Veronica lightly kissed Laine on the lips, then turned her head away, no longer looking at him.

”Don’t be sad, Veronica. This is a gift for you, wearing it can protect you from corruption.” Laine placed a silver pendant in Veronica’s hand: ”Goodbye.”

The witch accepted the pendant, her eyes always staring out of the window, not looking at Laine again because she didn’t want to lose composure in front of her apprentice.

After speaking, Laine stepped down from the carriage, standing at his doorstep, watching the carriage disappear at the end of the road, he sighed, then turned back into his house.

His heart was filled with unstoppable anger.

This anger was not directed at Veronica’s departure, because Laine knew his relationship with Veronica was not a true romantic one. They were more like deep emotional partners and bedmates, each getting what they needed from the other. This woman wouldn’t and couldn’t stay by his side for long; she was like a proud bird, with her own matters to tend to.

Moreover, both Laine and Veronica understood one thing, Veronica had no chance of becoming Laine’s wife, this was decided by her identity as a witch, and she was aware of it herself.

Laine was truly upset with the Jialan Council’s unreliability. He hadn’t expected such severe internal conflicts within one of the Continent’s three major Caster Associations, leading to his inability to secure a stable partner.

Veronica was his partner, but Jialan had sent Teresa to team up with him.

Just as he was beginning to gain some rapport with Teresa, Jialan called her back and replaced her with Veronica.

The mission had just ended, and Jialan immediately recalled Veronica.

Were these repeated recalls urgent matters? No, it was all due to the Speaker and Elders’ disputes.

He felt he needed to find a different Caster organization to collaborate with.

As he opened the door, Laine did not lift his head, simply noticing a shadow approaching him from the corner of his eye, he mused while complaining: ”In just a few days, the house is down to just the two of us.”

He was answered by a mature, elegant voice.

”So what does my Champion intend to do?”
