When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 68: Chapter 67: The Overbearing CEO’s Little Wildcat 8

Lu Youheng chuckled softly at Ji Xiaosong’s cautious expression.

”The official announcement about breaking off my engagement with Liu Wanru was released the day after we met.”

”Huh?”

The disappointment on Ji Xiaosong’s face was obvious. ’With Liu Wanru, his fiancée in name only, gone, what reason do I have not to go home?’

She didn’t want to go back. No one controlled her here, and she didn’t have to deal with all the drama from her family.

Besides, she had a chance to build an international reputation here.

If she became famous abroad first, her opportunities would be just as great when she returned home.

”You don’t want to go back?”

Lu Youheng furrowed his brow, seemingly lost in thought.

”What do you want to do?”

”I want to study here. I want to study medicine.”

”So you want a degree and a practical skill to fall back on?”

”You could say that.”

Hearing this, Lu Youheng chose his words carefully.

”For an ordinary person, a degree from a prestigious university might be a prerequisite for success. But in the Lu Family, graduating with a doctorate in your early twenties under the prestige of a world-renowned school is nothing special. A degree is just a nice bonus, something money can solve. It’s not a big deal. So you can set your sights higher. Just tell me what resources you need, and I’ll arrange it. You don’t have to worry.”

Ji Xiaosong was so startled that she nearly dropped her sandwich. ’We’ve only slept together twice, and he’s already offering me resources?’

”Why would you give me all this?”

’She didn’t believe for a second that a man like Lu Youheng, who managed a massive fortune, was some love-struck fool. He wouldn’t be this good to her if he didn’t want something in return.’

At her question, Lu Youheng’s gaze deepened. He leaned closer to Ji Xiaosong and said in a low voice, ”It’s simple. I can’t get your body out of my mind. I’m quite interested in you.”

For twenty-eight years, for as long as he could remember, he had been told he had to carry the entire Lu Family on his shoulders.

The line of heirs was thin, and there was no one else in the Lu Family to share the burden, so he’d never had a moment to himself.

His parents were assassinated abroad by rivals before he even came of age. Raised by his grandmother, he never dared to slack off for even a second.

With Ji Xiaosong, for the first time, he tasted what it was like to be indulgent without being anxious.

That was why he was willing to give some preferential treatment to the woman he was keeping.

As for her true motives for getting close to him, he’d had the last month to think it over and decided not to investigate any further.

Assistant Wu had thoroughly investigated her entire life, from childhood to the present, and had come up with nothing.

Since that was the case, there was no point in pursuing it.

Whatever she was after, he could afford to give her.

Seeing that Lu Youheng’s expression wasn’t feigned, Ji Xiaosong didn’t press the matter.

’Even if I wanted to fight it, there doesn’t seem to be much point.’

’Lu Youheng doesn’t plan for me to be seen in public, and since we’re abroad, the chances of me being targeted should be much lower.’

”The kind of resources you’re talking about are beyond my ability to manage right now, so I’m not going to be greedy. What I need at this moment is to get my feet on the ground and first acquire the skills to match my new circumstances. An acceptance letter to a world-class university and a comfortable, worry-free life would be just right for me.”

Since Lu Youheng was the one who offered, Ji Xiaosong wasn’t about to feel insulted by the idea of him giving her money.

’Besides, he’s the biological father of the three babies in my belly. Isn’t it perfectly reasonable for him to pay a little child support?’

Lu Youheng was surprised that Ji Xiaosong didn’t make a lot of demands or cause a scene.

But when he thought about her upbringing, he supposed he understood.

”I’ll arrange all of that for you. Also, your parents and younger brother aren’t doing very well right now. Your brother’s grades aren’t good enough for a standard high school, so he’ll be tracked into a vocational school. Your mother signed an IOU from the Wang Family and is now working manual labor every day to earn money. As for your father, he’s the same as always. Do you want me to help them?”

”The Wang Family likely had my mother sign that IOU because of the betrothal gift. It’s best we pay that back to avoid giving people a reason to talk. As for everything else, you don’t need to get involved. We should respect the destiny of others and not disturb the cycle of cause and effect.”

Ji Xiaosong finished her sandwich in a few bites. Next, she had to tidy up the entire villa.

The two of them had made a mess of the room again yesterday, and as a neat freak, she absolutely couldn’t stand it.

”Do you have anything else to do today?”

”No. I only came to J Country to see you.”

’Well...’

’Is Mr. Lu always this direct?’

”In that case... why don’t you go to the greenhouse in the yard and help me pull some weeds? I’m going to tidy up the rooms.”

’She was planning to use a spell to clean up in a bit. It was a three-story house. If she cleaned the whole thing by hand, she wouldn’t get anything else done today.’

”No need. Since I said I’d spend time with you, we’ll tidy up together. We’ll start by weeding the greenhouse.”

Ji Xiaosong thought ”tidying up” meant grabbing some tools and heading to the greenhouse to pull weeds together.

But clearly, she had misunderstood Lu Youheng’s intentions.

His idea of ”weeding” was a new experiment in the greenhouse: several rounds using the sky as a blanket, the ground as a bed, and the trees and flowers for cover. He wasn’t about to waste a single moment of their time together.

Ji Xiaosong’s heart pounded as she kept glancing around, terrified someone might suddenly walk by or that a neighbor who’d never once visited might decide to come knocking.

They spent the entire morning at it. Barely any weeds were pulled, but the greenhouse, on the other hand, was thoroughly explored by Lu Youheng.

Ji Xiaosong felt she was becoming decadent. Whenever she was with Lu Youheng, her mind was filled with only one thing.

By the time he left the next day, Ji Xiaosong didn’t even have the strength to get out of bed and see him off.

’As expected of someone who accomplishes great things; his stamina is incredible,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, how could he expend so much energy and still be able to sit on a plane for dozens of hours to fly back to work? A normal person could never do that.’

After Ji Xiaosong had leisurely slept in, she gave a light wave of her hand, casting a Spell that instantly restored the villa to its original pristine state.

Once everything was in order, she was about to head out for her exam.

But as soon as she opened the gate to her yard, she saw four foreigners in sharp business suits standing at the entrance.

The man in the lead bowed slightly, a polite smile on his face. ”Miss Ji, good day. Mr. Lu specifically entrusted us with handling your relevant documentation and paperwork. Everything has now been taken care of, and we are here to hand it all over to you in person.”

Slightly stunned, Ji Xiaosong took the documents. Her eyes widened in astonishment as she looked them over. She marveled to herself; this was the first time she had a truly new appreciation for the superpower of money.

From now on, regardless of how long she stayed in J Country or what she did, she would face very few restrictions, as long as she abided by the law.

Another man quickly stepped forward, presenting a file with both hands. ”Before Mr. Lu left,” he said respectfully, ”he gave instructions regarding your admission to F University. We settled the matter this morning. This is your letter of acceptance. Please, take it.”

Before Ji Xiaosong could even recover from this string of surprises, yet another man stepped forward. He too offered a folder with both hands, his expression solemn. ”Miss Ji, Mr. Lu has also arranged for your placement at FNR Hospital and has granted you a number of its shares. Here is the related paperwork for your review.”

Ji Xiaosong’s eyes were wide with disbelief. She took the folder and casually flipped through the documents.

’Well, this is perfect,’ she thought. ’Now I don’t even have to worry about where to do my internship. This hospital isn’t just one of the best in J Country; it’s one of the top-ranked hospitals in the world.’

’And now, I’m a shareholder in this world-class hospital.’

Without a second thought, Ji Xiaosong signed her name. ’It’s free, so why not take it? All of this will be the foundation for raising my children in the future.’

The last of the four men stepped forward and said gently, ”Miss Ji, we have handled all the matters Mr. Lu assigned to us. If you have no further instructions, we will take our leave.”

”That’s all. You may go.”

Receiving her reply, the four men bowed in unison to Ji Xiaosong, then turned and departed.

Ji Xiaosong stood where she was, a stack of documents in her hands, and watched them leave. She was so excited that she ran three laps around her yard.

’The exam?’

’I’m still going! And after my exam, I’m going for a prenatal check-up!’

’It’s been over two months. It’s time for a check-up.’
