When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 65: Chapter 64: The Overbearing President’s Little Wildcat 5

”We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service.”

Well, that settled it. The call didn’t even say the phone was off anymore—it just went straight to ’out of service’.

Mother Ji crept nervously toward Mr. Ji. ”Old... old man,” she stammered, her voice trembling, ”the... the number is out of service.”

She kept her head down, not daring to look at Mr. Ji’s face, her hands tightly wringing the hem of her clothes.

Mr. Ji whipped his head around and glared viciously at Mother Ji. ”What?” he roared. ”Out of service? Did you hear that right? Call again!”

Mother Ji flinched, stammering, ”It... it really is out of service. I heard it correctly. I... I wouldn’t dare lie to you.”

Mr. Ji shot up from the sofa and stormed over to Mother Ji, raising his hand to strike her. ”You useless thing! You can’t even make a simple phone call!” Terrified, Mother Ji squeezed her eyes shut and curled into a ball.

The expected blow never landed. In the end, Mr. Ji lowered his hand.

’Can’t hit her again. The damned woman’s already got a lame leg and a broken arm. If I beat her any more, there’ll be no one to cook.’

”Then go make a scene at her school. She’s still a student; why isn’t the school keeping her in line? What about her counselor? Go to the school, find her counselor, and demand they hand her over!”

Mother Ji opened her eyes and ventured, ”Old man, isn’t it a bad idea to cause a scene at her school? It’ll affect her studies. Besides, this has nothing to do with the school.”

Mr. Ji’s eyes bulged as he roared, ”What do you mean it has nothing to do with them! She’s a student there, so the school is responsible! Stop your whining and get going!”

Mother Ji’s voice caught in a sob. ”But... there are so many people at the university. I... I’m scared to go.”

Mr. Ji was livid. ”You’re scared to go? Then you can just wait for me to throw you out on the street!”

Helpless and terrified, Mother Ji could only whisper in reply, ”I’ll go. I’ll go, alright?”

But as for how a woman with a lame leg and a broken arm was supposed to get there, that was not a problem that concerned Mr. Ji.

”And before you go, don’t forget to cook a meal first.”

”I know.”

After Mother Ji finished cooking, she took a rural bus and then transferred to the subway to get to Qingming University.

”Hello, do you have an appointment?”

A security guard stopped Mother Ji.

”I’m here to find my daughter. I don’t have an appointment.”

”I’m sorry, but while the campus was recently opened to visitors, you can’t enter without a registered appointment.”

Mother Ji took out her old phone, which could barely connect to a 2G network, and asked the guard timidly, ”I just want to find my daughter. I can’t reach her by phone, so I had to come here. Can you please help me contact her? Or if that’s not possible, maybe her counselor? My daughter hasn’t graduated yet, so she’s still your school’s responsibility.”

The guard took down Ji Xiaosong’s information, called her counselor, and finally got Mother Ji in touch with them.

The young counselor, a recent graduate student, was in her office writing up some reports. She emerged with her hair looking like a bird’s nest.

”Ji Xiaosong’s mother, Ji Xiaosong is a fourth-year student now, which means she’s off-campus for her internship as per university rules. You won’t find her here. I just called the dorm supervisor for the women’s residence hall to confirm, and Ji Xiaosong hasn’t been back to her room in days.”

Not giving up, Mother Ji grabbed the counselor’s black puffer jacket. Her voice filled with tears. ”Her father and I can’t reach her by phone! We had no other choice but to come to you. She’s still your student, after all. If you don’t find her, it’s the university’s responsibility! My daughter hasn’t graduated yet—you have to take responsibility!”

”Ji Xiaosong’s mother, Ji Xiaosong is an adult. She’s responsible for her own actions. I recall her father just caused a scene at her internship a few days ago, which resulted in Ji Xiaosong getting fired from a job that would have become a full-time position upon graduation. Causing these public disturbances doesn’t do anyone any good.”

”How am I making a scene? When did I ever make a scene?”

Mother Ji’s voice shot up, her face contorting, her eyes wild with a crazed light.

She abruptly let go of the counselor’s jacket and began flailing her arms wildly in the air. ”You’re just trying to shift the blame! My daughter is missing, you won’t do anything, and now you’re accusing me of making a scene!”

Her hair fell in a disheveled mess as she muttered incessantly, ”Oh, my poor daughter, where are you? They won’t help you, but Mommy will definitely find you!”

As she yelled, Mother Ji began punching and kicking at the air, as if fighting off invisible obstacles that were keeping her from her daughter.

The young counselor, frightened by this sudden outburst, backed away repeatedly. ”Security! Security!”

Male students passing by stepped forward to form a protective circle around the counselor. Security guards rushed over and subdued Mother Ji.

’Did she really think it would be that easy to cause a scene at the gates of a prestigious university?’

’What a joke. This isn’t some TV drama.’

The police arrived within ten minutes, and just like that, Mother Ji won herself an all-expenses-paid, one-day tour of the police station.

Ji Xiaosong arrived in a visa-free country and quickly took items from her storage space to a pawn shop to exchange for cash.

She paid off her credit loans and even had some cash left over.

She gently patted her belly. The three little lives inside were safe, and she could finally relax.

She bought a new SIM card and a new phone.

Next, she needed to find a country that would grant her a ten-year visa and establish a steady source of income.

’I can’t keep selling things from my space,’ she thought. ’It would be too hard to explain where the items came from.’

Although it would be difficult to trace across different countries, she didn’t want to leave a trail.

’So, in this new life, what career path should I choose for myself?’

’Rely on this body’s original major, architecture?’

’No, forget it. The architecture industry is on the decline; it’s too hard to make a name for yourself on your own.’

After much thought and extensive research, Ji Xiaosong decided she would become a doctor in this new life.

Her mind was filled with medical knowledge and skills. She had no idea when she had learned them, but she had a feeling she was incredibly good.

Coupled with her Spiritual Power, becoming a miracle doctor shouldn’t be too difficult.

Having decided on her future path, Ji Xiaosong booked a hotel room and finally lay down to rest.

The moment she opened her social media app, her phone nearly crashed.

A barrage of messages from her counselor flooded the screen.

”Ji Xiaosong, your mother came to the university looking for you. I don’t have your whereabouts either. If you see this, please contact your parents immediately.”

”Your mother was taken to the police station for causing a disturbance at the campus entrance.”

”Please, just send a reply.”

...

Just as Ji Xiaosong was about to reply to her counselor, a call came through on her messaging app.

”Ji Xiaosong, your mother reported you to the police as a missing person.”

”I’m sorry, Teacher Xiao. Could you please explain to the police for me? My parents pushed me to my limit, so I just left to clear my head. Every time I find a job, they show up and cause a scene. I’m at my wit’s end.”

”Alright. I’m aware of your family situation. If you run into any trouble, you should still let the university know right away. You haven’t graduated yet, so we need to be kept in the loop.”

”Okay, Teacher Xiao. Thank you for your help. If my parents come looking for you again, you don’t have to engage with them. They’re just bullies who prey on the weak and fear the strong. They won’t do anything drastic.”

”As long as you have a handle on things. Also, I got a call from your former employer today. It was the HR department from Jinhai Group. They said you were an outstanding performer and wanted to know if you’d be willing to intern at their headquarters. They couldn’t reach you, so they called me.”

’Jinhai Group?’

’Isn’t that Lu Youheng’s company?’
