When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 64: Chapter 63: The Overbearing CEO’s Little Wildcat 4

”Mr. Lu, according to my findings, the person who entered your room last night was Ji Xiaosong, a senior at Qingming University. The one who drugged you was Miss Liu Wanru. She’s pregnant, and the child is Wang Zheng’s.”

”As for Miss Ji, we have not yet determined how she entered your room.”

”Additionally, she has excellent grades at school. She was interning at our company, but the internship was cut short and she had to return home because her father caused a scene.”

”I’ve compiled a dossier on her family situation and her life experiences from childhood to the present.”

Assistant Wu handed the dossier to Lu Youheng. He casually flipped through a few pages, finally stopping on Wang Zheng’s photo.

”This Wang Zheng is Miss Liu Wanru’s lover. The Wang Family is currently planning to break off the engagement with Miss Ji. However, given her father’s situation, it’s unlikely the 88,000 yuan betrothal gift will be returned.”

Assistant Wu continued his explanation at just the right moment. ”Miss Ji’s father is an avid gambler. Her mother was hospitalized recently due to domestic violence and is still there. She has a younger brother in his third year of middle school, but since it’s part of the compulsory education system, the expenses aren’t high. However, the 88,000 yuan betrothal gift has indeed been spent, mostly gambled away by Miss Ji’s father.”

Watching Lu Youheng continue to flip through the pages, he saw they mostly detailed Ji Xiaosong’s various achievements over the years.

It was only because of her excellent grades since childhood that she was able to continue her education despite such a family environment.

”Pressure the Wang Family. Get them to break off the engagement as soon as possible. As for that little bit of money for the betrothal gift, I imagine they’ll get compensated for it by the Liu Family.”

Lu Youheng closed the dossier and set it aside.

”Yes, Mr. Lu. I’ll get it done as soon as possible.”

Assistant Wu was truly worthy of being Lu Youheng’s right-hand man. He worked quickly. That very evening, Wang Zheng arrived at the Ji family’s home with his entire family in tow.

”Brother Ji, our hands are tied. That girl, Xiaosong, and our Wang Zheng hardly ever speak. They’ve been engaged for so long but have met less than three times. If they get married, they’ll just be a miserable couple.”

Mrs. Wang took a sip of tea and spoke through tears and snot, all the while keeping a close eye on Mr. Ji’s expression.

”Isn’t this how everyone gets by in a marriage? It’ll be fine once they have kids. Feelings and all that stuff aren’t important. A woman, well, you marry her to have and raise children. Look at our girl here. Say what you will, but you’ll definitely save on tutoring fees for the kids later. She’s sure to raise a child who gets grades as good as hers.”

There was no way Mr. Ji would agree to them breaking off the engagement. That would mean returning the 88,000 yuan betrothal gift.

He had spent that money long ago. How could he possibly pay it back?

No matter what Mrs. Wang said, Mr. Ji dug in his heels and refused to budge.

Seeing no other way, Wang Zheng finally spoke up. ”Uncle Ji, Xiaosong and I truly don’t have any feelings for each other. Marriage these days is about mutual affection. It’s not like in your generation where people just got married and made do. How about this: return the betrothal money, you tell all your relatives, and we’ll consider this engagement void.”

”Break it off then, but I’m not returning the betrothal gift. Not a single cent.”

Mr. Ji saw they were talking themselves hoarse and knew there was no room for negotiation. Since that was the case, he couldn’t let himself get the short end of the stick.

”My daughter is the one getting her engagement broken off with you. Her reputation will be damaged. Compensation for her wasted youth is also a lot of money. Just consider the 88,000 yuan compensation for my daughter’s wasted youth and damaged reputation.”

Hearing this, Wang Zheng flew into a rage. ”What ’wasted youth’ and ’damaged reputation’ fees? This is just shameless extortion! You family of leeches, have you gone crazy for money? Where’s Ji Xiaosong? Why isn’t she here?”

Mrs. Wang grew frantic too, jumping to her feet and pointing at Mr. Ji’s nose as she cursed, ”You have the nerve to ask for compensation? Our Wang Zheng has been held up by you people for so long! Who’s going to compensate us for that loss?”

Mr. Wang was even more furious. ”Fine! So you refuse to do this the easy way! You’ll return that betrothal gift today whether you want to or not! You’re the only one home right now. Let’s see what you can do against us!”

With that, Mr. Wang waved his hand, and the relatives they had brought with them began to smash things.

Pots, bowls, and pans were thrown and shattered with a series of CRASHES. Tables and chairs were overturned, and the room was instantly plunged into chaos.

”Smash it all! Show them what we’re made of!” Mr. Wang roared.

Mr. Ji tried to stop them but was shoved aside by several burly relatives.

”Are you returning the money or not?”

Mr. Wang, holding a thermos decorated with peonies, pinned Mr. Ji to the ground with his foot and asked viciously.

”What betrothal money? I spent it all long ago! If you want money, I don’t have any. If you want my daughter, you can just take her.”

Mr. Wang’s face turned red with rage. He violently smashed the thermos on the ground. With a BANG, the inner lining shattered, and water splashed everywhere.

”You bastard! If you don’t cough up the money today, you’re not getting out of this easy!”

Mr. Wang roared, increasing the pressure of his foot. ”You’ll get me that money even if you have to sell your daughter!”

Mr. Ji howled in pain and quickly begged for mercy, ”I’ll sell her, I’ll sell her! As soon as she gets back, I’ll sell her right away.”

Hearing this, Mr. Wang finally eased the pressure on his foot slightly. He snorted coldly and said, ”Finally showing some sense! Remember what you said. If you try any tricks, you’ll regret it!”

He then lifted his foot and shot Mr. Ji a vicious glare. ”I’m giving you three days. Sell your daughter to someone in the mountains; people there are willing to pay. If you don’t get it done, we’ll settle all our scores, new and old! And another thing, make it clear to your relatives and friends immediately that our two families have broken off the engagement. Don’t let them spread rumors.”

After saying his piece, Mr. Wang waved his hand and stormed off with his relatives, leaving the Ji home in shambles and Mr. Ji groaning in pain on the floor.

Once Mr. Ji had recovered a little from the pain, he quickly picked up his phone to call Ji Xiaosong.

”The number you have dialed is currently switched off.”

”That slut! She’s out selling herself! Not home all night... which man’s bed did she crawl into?!”

Not giving up, Mr. Ji then called Mother Ji and immediately let loose a torrent of abuse. ”You useless hag! Are you planning to die in that hospital? Get your ass home and serve me! Are you trying to rebel?”

On the other end of the line, Mother Ji meekly replied, ”I’m coming back now, I’m coming back.”

A short while later, Mother Ji called him back, her voice thick with tears.

”The people in the inpatient department have gone home for the day. I can’t complete the discharge procedures. First thing tomorrow morning, as soon as they’re in, I’ll do it right away.”

”So they won’t process your discharge, and you don’t know enough to just walk back yourself? It’s not like the hospital staff tied you up. What, did you lose your feet?”

”But... it’s too far! The rural bus has stopped running for the day. There’s no way I can walk several miles on crutches!”

”Then just get back here first thing tomorrow morning!”

The next morning, at the crack of dawn, Mother Ji, leaning on a crutch with her broken arm in a sling, hastily completed her discharge and returned home.

The moment she walked in the door, Mr. Ji started cursing and ordering her to clean up the house. Mother Ji didn’t dare make a sound, silently dragging her weak body to start working.

”Call that little bitch you gave birth to! Tell her to get back here right now!”

Mr. Ji sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, watching TV.

A public service announcement was playing on the television. On screen, a little girl was laughing happily in the warm embrace of her parents as a voiceover said, ”Every child is a family’s treasure and deserves to grow up with love and care.”

Mother Ji stopped what she was doing and quickly picked up her old feature phone to dial Ji Xiaosong’s number.
