Berserk God of War

Chapter 702: Chapter 702: Enter the Imperial Palace First to Investigate

Indeed, in the next instant.

Snow began to flutter all over the Imperial City, and then the previously mentioned Golden Body Realm elder exclaimed in shock and fury, ”Wangyou Sect.”

As his voice fell, the powerful auras of several elders that had just appeared vanished without a trace in an instant.

It was as though they had been taken down by someone in the blink of an eye.

Every Prince was dumbfounded, their excitement gone, suddenly becoming bewildered.

The Second Prince regained his composure and bellowed angrily, ”Ji Tan, how dare you defy the ancestral teachings and collude with outsiders.”

However, before he could finish, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

Figures of powerful individuals appeared, surrounding the Princes and their supporters, completely sealing off their voices.

All of it seemed to have been accomplished in the blink of an eye.

The swiftness of Ji Tan’s actions was to such an extreme that it left people unable to react or fathom.

And a cold light flashed in Sikong Jing’s eyes as he stared intently in the direction of the Imperial City: ”Ji Tan, actually colluding with the Wangyou Sect to seize the throne.”

Murderous intent emanated from Sikong Jing’s entire being, and linking it to the prior incident where Ji Tan had purposely leaked information to Mo Ci, leading to the Beigong Vanguard nearly getting killed by Mo Ci...

”It seems this was one of Mo Ci’s strategies before her death.”

”She wanted to support Ji Tan as the Long Night Emperor, using the Empire’s power to destroy the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace. Cruel and crafty indeed.”

Only by now did Sikong Jing realize that Wangyou Sect and Ji Tan had already deeply collaborated.

Although Mo Ci was dead, the plan of Wangyou Sect would certainly not change because they must kill him.

”Perhaps both the Beigong Commander and Emperor Ji Shengmang learned of the existence of Wangyou Sect just now.”

”It’s just unknown whether Ji Shengmang is really dead.”

Sikong Jing’s gaze turned frosty. He had only just returned, planning to go to the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace to discuss with the Beigong Vanguard on how to execute their plan to counter-kill Ji Tan, but Ji Tan had struck first.

Now, Sikong Jing found himself somewhat caught off guard.

However, a slight smirk curled the corner of Sikong Jing’s mouth as he spoke softly, ”I wonder if Ling’er has also arrived in Long Night Imperial City? Now that the Wangyou Sect is without a Sect Master, will the members of the Wangyou Sect obey Ling’er’s orders?”

Sikong Jing glanced in the direction of the Holy Dragon Palace, then turned and said, ”It seems I should enter the Imperial Palace first to get to the bottom of this!”

He changed his mind and decided not to return to the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace for the time being.

He thought it would be more interesting to enter the Imperial Palace with all kinds of doubts, that way he could slowly unravel the truth.

And now, he had the confidence to do so.

If he was not mistaken, Ling’er should be within the Long Night Imperial City, which meant that the Wangyou Sect posed little danger to him and, given the chance, he might even help Ling’er transition from Young Sect Master to the true Sect Master.

As for Cheng Yusu and Ji Tan, Sikong Jing didn’t consider them worth his attention.

What’s more important, Emperor Ji Shengmang might indeed be dead, whereas the Beigong Vanguard might still be alive...

It’s also uncertain whether the old gentleman had exposed himself or been discovered by Ji Tan; thus Sikong Jing needed to quickly enter the Imperial Palace to uncover the truth and, if possible, save those who could be saved.

Yet, even with his great confidence, he was not arrogant.

Instead, he passed by the Wanbao Pavilion quietly and found Senior Brother Lang Yisuo, who had returned from the War Soul Dynasty.

He had Lang Yisuo summon a craftsman to create a brand-new mask and also had him send a message to both the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace and the 66th Army.

Only then did he resume his journey, stepping towards the direction of the Imperial City.

...

Meanwhile, within the Imperial Palace.

A strange laugh echoed in the study where Long Night Emperor, Ji Shengmang, was present.

”Father, can you die now?”

”Those of the Golden Body Realm who should’ve been long dead have already been subdued by the Wangyou Sect, and you didn’t foresee the appearance of the Long Night White Flame Army, did you? The Long Night Black Burning Army is also completely under my control.”

”Father, do you have any reason left not to die now?”

If anyone in the Long Night Imperial City had heard these words, they would have been shocked beyond measure. The Long Night Emperor hadn’t yet died, but his death had already been announced to the outside world, and the one speaking was none other than Eldest Prince Ji Tan.

There were three people in the study at this moment.

One was Ji Shengmang, who sat behind the desk, his face pale, his eyes blazing with rolling flames, his fists creaking as he clenched them.

The other two standing were Ji Tan and the Old Eunuch Zou.

Eunuch Zou, with a face full of sinister smiles, stood beside Ji Tan, his True Qi churning as he eyed Ji Shengmang, obviously there to protect Ji Tan.

As for Ji Tan, he appeared to be in high spirits, leisurely watching his father, who was in a towering rage.

Now he controlled the entire Imperial Palace, and both the Long Night Black Burning Army and the White Flame Army had seized control of the entire Imperial Capital. Having taken down the old immortals with the aid of the Wangyou Sect, he could rest easy.

Now that no one could compete with him, the throne was practically in his pocket—how could he not be content?

After a long while, Ji Shengmang roared through gritted teeth, ”Rebel son, you damned traitor!”

Even though he had been on his guard, he hadn’t expected Ji Tan to collude with a force like the Wangyou Sect against ancestral rules, and what infuriated him more was that Ji Tan had intentionally let him hear the news... of his own ”passing.”

It was as if his son had spared his life just so he could witness this spectacle, to showcase his confidence and methods, to satisfy his own swelling pride.

And this was his eldest son, Ji Shengmang thought, enraged to the utmost degree.

To this, Ji Tan merely chuckled, ”Father, you shouldn’t talk nonsense. How have I become a rebel son? I used a scheme to kill the Beigong Xianfeng, enabling Cheng Yusu to become the commander of the Long Night Black Burning Army. It was only then that I could conquer the Twelve States of Lower You.”

”I conquered the Twelve States that neither you nor our ancestors could conquer. I am bringing glory to our lineage.”

With an exaggerated expression, Ji Tan glared at Ji Shengmang and laughed maniacally.

He had deliberately spared his father’s life just so he could witness his own prowess. He relished in this feeling.

”What, you arranged the death of the Beigong Old Commander?” Ji Shengmang pretended to be unaware as he continued to roar.

Ji Tan’s eyes widened as he replied, ”Ah? Haven’t I mentioned it before? Yes, I schemed the death of Beigong Xianfeng. I deliberately spread the rumor that he knew Sikong Jing’s whereabouts, which drove Mo Ci to kill him.”

”I’m clever, aren’t I? Father, you haven’t praised me for being smart in a long time.”

As he talked about this matter, Ji Tan felt immense satisfaction in his heart.

As for Ji Shengmang, he seethed with rage.

But he still had to feign ignorance of the matter because Beigong Xianfeng had not yet been exposed.

Yet deep down, he was greatly puzzled. Why hadn’t the Beigong Old Commander acted yet?

The Long Night Black Burning Army had already reached the Long Night Imperial City, and the Beigong Old Commander, who was still in the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace, should have burst forth to counterattack by now, but all was eerily quiet.

If it stayed quiet any longer, Ji Tan would kill him... Or perhaps something else had occurred along the way?

With a chill, Ji Shengmang continued, ”That wasn’t your doing; it was Sikong Jing’s.”

”If Sikong Jing hadn’t killed Mo Ci, and if he hadn’t caused chaos in the War Soul Dynasty drawing out rebels from all sides, how could Lu Lungan possibly have withdrawn from the Twelve States of Lower You? And how could Cheng Yusu have taken over the Twelve States?”

Since the Beigong Old Commander’s situation was unknown, had Sikong Jing returned or not?
