Berserk God of War

Chapter 701: Chapter 701 Long Night, Chaos

Someone was deliberately trying to erase Sikong Jing’s achievements, and there were even scoffers who said, ”It’s a joke, Sikong Jing killing the Wangyou Sect Master might as well be fake news, and what business does he have causing trouble in the War Soul Dynasty with a few mountain bandits?”

These voices spoke with reason and evidence, making many citizens feel their arguments were quite valid.

How could the grand War Soul Dynasty be brought to its knees by somebody like Sikong Jing, to the point of even abandoning the Youyuan Twelve States?

It was obviously just a rumor.

Gradually, the surrounding voices began to belittle Sikong Jing and continue to extol Cheng Yusu’s great achievements.

In the end, they mentioned Eldest Prince Ji Tan, who was the one who had recommended Cheng Yusu!

Hearing this, Sikong Jing’s lips curled slightly, ”It seems that Ji Tan is ready to make his move.”

Clearly, with Cheng Yusu returning with great merit and his and Ji Tan’s achievements being touted everywhere, it was the prelude to action.

Sikong Jing thought to himself, ”I wonder how the Beigong Commander and Emperor Ji Shengmang are prepared?”

But he quickly dismissed these thoughts, trusting that the former two must have made meticulous preparations for the current situation.

And his secret return, without letting anyone discover him, was to increase their chips.

More importantly, it was to avoid being detected by enemies such as the Three Great Academies, which would have caused too much chaos in the Long Night Imperial City.

And now that he had arrived, naturally he did not have to fear exposing his whereabouts.

Of course, now he just wanted to hurry back to the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace, his thoughts were still fixed on Su Yuexi; he wondered if she had lost weight in these past few months and whether her War Body had progressed in Martial Arts.

Was she still fretting and frightened for him?

However, just as Sikong Jing turned around, suddenly, the entire Long Night Imperial City erupted with the sound of mournful wailing.

The sad tolling of the bells came from the direction of the Imperial City, followed by an indignant voice that declared, ”The Emperor, he has collapsed!”

In an instant, the bustling Long Night Imperial City fell completely quiet!

Countless people looked up incredulously; the bustling streets seemed eerily silent, as if everyone had been frozen in place.

Then, that indignant voice cried out again, ”The Emperor, he has collapsed!”

Whoosh...

This time it was heard loud and clear, and the once silent Long Night Imperial City erupted into chaos, in disbelief.

Some people wept on the spot, some knelt in the streets, while others howled, beating their chests and stamping their feet in grief.

And following the so-called sad tolling of the bells, that voice slowly said, ”The nation cannot be without a ruler for a day; now, it will be the Eldest Highness, Ji Tan... to ascend to the throne!”

With those words, the Long Night Imperial City erupted once more. In an instant, the Long Night Empire had a new Emperor.

”Impossible, Father cannot have collapsed; he was perfectly well at court just yesterday.”

”Ji Tan, was it your doing?”

While the entire Long Night Imperial City was plunged into extreme sorrow and bewilderment, a voice soared to the heavens.

He was the Second Prince of the Long Night Empire, accompanied by his experts, he soared into the sky on his mount, roaring towards the Imperial City.

”The Second Imperial Brother is right, our father was in his prime, how could he have collapsed so suddenly?”

”Ji Tan, you must be plotting a coup!”

A second voice rose up, another prince with his experts charged forth.

”Father, oh Father!”

Then, one after another, princes filled with grief and anger soared into the heavens, accompanied by their experts.

Seeing the Princes gathered, the Second Prince shouted again, ”All the ministers and soldiers of the Long Night Empire, if you still have a conscience and loyalty, follow me into the Imperial City and kill the patricidal dog Ji Tan.”

In an instant, some ministers and commanders, accompanied by their guards, charged out and galloped towards the Imperial City.

These Princes, how obedient they were to Ji Shengmang was unknown, but they also desired the throne. Moreover, if Ji Tan ascended, they were likely to face death or exile.

Now, they could only use the excuse of Ji Tan’s patricide to desperately fight their way into the Imperial City.

Whether these Princes had ulterior motives or not, they had to join forces against Ji Tan now.

And behind them, they had their own powers and followers.

But just as the situation was getting heated, a figure in Golden Armor ascended atop the Imperial City, slowly declaring, ”Imperial City Guard, listen to me, protect the Imperial City, and those who dare to cause chaos... kill!”

This figure was Huang Yu, the Commander of the Imperial City Guard.

As stated before, he had long sided with Ji Tan, being one of his most loyal followers.

Upon seeing this, the Second Prince roared again, ”Audacious Huang Yu, as the Commander of my father’s Imperial Guard, instead of protecting him, you assist a tyrant, you deserve a thousand deaths.”

Huang Yu just sneered, giving no reply.

However, the strength of the Princes was not insignificant, and with the remaining forces of Ji Shengmang, the mere Imperial City Guard was not enough. Moreover, the ministers who had not pledged allegiance to Ji Tan also had to fight desperately, or they too would face execution or exile.

But at that moment, another figure rose above the Imperial City.

”Long Night Black Burning Army, Long Night White Flame Army, heed my command... enter the Imperial City, slay the rebels!”

This second figure was, of course, Cheng Yusu, who had returned from his great victory.

At his words, the Princes were struck with terror.

The ground shook as the Long Night Black Burning Army and Long Night White Flame Army charged into the Long Night Imperial City from two directions, turning into two vast streams of black and white. The civilians on the streets retreated into their homes, faces struck with panic.

All at once, the Princes panicked, completely baffled by the appearance of the two elite armies.

Even Cheng Yusu was Ji Tan’s loyal servant; with their hands on the elite forces of two empires, how could the Princes hope to prevail?

Suddenly, the Second Prince bit his teeth and bellowed once more, ”The ancient forebears of the Royal Family, you cannot sit and watch Ji Tan commit such atrocities. Our father was a good Emperor recognized by all of you; you cannot let Ji Tan ruin the Long Night Empire.”

As the voice of the Second Prince faded, the Princes straightened up.

Indeed, within the Royal Family, there were Golden Body Realm masters, many from the older generation of the Royal Family. Although they did not involve themselves in matters of state, they were martially formidable, treasures that stabilized the Long Night Empire.

If they were willing to intervene and punish Ji Tan, they could surely turn the tide of battle.

Boom...

Amid the Princes’ anticipation, several powerful auras surged in and around the Imperial City, as an elder in the Golden Body Realm rode a demon beast mount into the city, converging with several other powerful individuals.

”Ji Tan, you wish to become Emperor without our consent, without passing our test,” the voice of the Golden Body Realm elder boomed as he entered the city.

Clearly, they were skeptical of Ji Shengmang’s sudden death, and the matter of ascension was not something Ji Tan could simply do at his own will.

Even if the late Emperor had appointed a successor, they, the older generation, had to test him, as was the rule of the Long Night Empire.

The gathered Princes were excited, slightly relieved.

With the intervention of the Golden Body Realm elders, it wouldn’t be easy for Ji Tan to succeed. If discovered that he had killed his father, then all the Princes stood a chance to be the next Emperor.

However, Sikong Jing, still standing in the streets, had the corner of his mouth twitch. It couldn’t be that simple.

If Ji Tan dared to be so recklessly bold, so openly scheming for the throne, he must have had a means to deal with these older-generation powerhouses.
