From BOSS to Canon Fodder: She is Currently Out of Service!

Thinking about his grandson being involved in that incident, Gu Zhengye couldn’t stand the marshal of Augustus at all. He even teamed up with the marshal of the Su and Qin families in the meeting to antagonize him. If it weren’t for the fact that everyone was meeting via virtual projection, he would have thrown face aside to teach that old bastard a lesson! It could be said that his grandson indirectly died because of the Augustine!

The deputy remained silent; such topics were not something a minor character like him could comment on. Just then, there was a noise from the smart brain. After opening it, his expression quickly changed, ”Marshal, the capital star of Augustus also... has fallen...”

”What!” Gu Zhengye’s expression changed drastically. When did this happen? Fallen? Like Qiming Star?

The so-called capital star is the only super planet in each star system, akin to how the capital star of Xilena is Ancient Star.

”...It... from the outbreak of the disaster to the fall, it only took two hours...” The deputy trembled, his molars quivering. In just two hours, a super planet was overtaken... it’s more absurd than the end of the world!

If Su Jiameng were here, she wouldn’t find it strange, because the Insect Race that attacked the Augustus Capital Star happened to be a type known as the Thousand Illusion Beasts. They are a parasitic species able to replicate and devour human brains. These Thousand Illusion Beasts first parasitize the returning Augustus Expeditionary Army and then boldly enter the capital star through them.

When parasitizing a human body, they silently siphon human energy and reproduce rapidly, spreading parasitic offspring through simple human contact. The Alliance warriors are the main combat force. With the fighters gone, the fall naturally happens faster!

”Is there any video footage?” Gu Zhengye felt an icy chill throughout his body, experiencing the deepest fear in his life. Two hours... a whole capital star’s people... Insect Race... truly terrifying...

”Yes, there’s satellite-captured footage.” The deputy opened the video, and Gu Zhengye, along with those present, witnessed the devastation.

In terms of appearance, the Thousand Illusion Beasts aren’t ugly, at least more beautiful than many Insect Races. They resemble butterflies, about palm-sized, with beautiful wings and a sprinkle of light around them. But their bodies are multicolored, and instead of beauty, they provoke fear.

Typically, the Thousand Illusion Beasts can’t survive long after leaving their host. However, if they continue devouring and growing, they quickly evolve into space creatures capable of surviving in a vacuum and traveling between planets on their own...

”Why was there no rescue...” Gu Zhengye clenched his fists, a spark flashing in his mind as he began to understand how these terrifying entities reached the Augustus Capital Star! The Jialanluo Clan had previously plotted against the Augustus Star System, luring them with a so-called secret, and that research institution was determined to get this secret, even igniting a war, until the secret vanished in an explosion.

But now it seems that it didn’t vanish in the explosion but awoke in it, parasitizing human bodies!

Gu Zhengye’s question went unanswered, as everyone shivered at the sight, filled with awe and fear. Qiming Star had fallen, but at least there was a four to five-day buffer for retreat, and it was a Level One star. But the Augustus Capital Star fell in two hours, with even retreating being a luxury due to the rapid parasitic spread of the Thousand Illusion Beasts...

Yet the crowd hadn’t recovered from this shock when another message arrived in their smart brain systems. It was a virtual letter with a black background and white text, stamped with a certain emblem. Everyone’s expression shifted drastically... Such a letter... They turned their gaze toward Gu Zhengye, their expressions complex.

For those recorded in the Alliance archives, at specific times, they might receive such a letter, which means a marshal has died! Black background, white text, stamped with a personal emblem... They didn’t expect it would be sent at this time...

Everyone knew who had died. Just like Gu Zhengye would be stationed on Ancient Star, that old marshal of Augustus would be stationed on the Augustus Capital Star... In this state, it’s clear that the deceased is him...

”This meeting... can be canceled...” Gu Zhengye tried to endure it, finally turning and leaving with an indifferent expression, so that no one could guess his current mood. Months ago, the Alliance was still at peace, with no threat of war... even if there was, it was minor skirmishes. It had been many years since the news of a marshal’s death had surfaced... Trouble is looming, this world is no longer peaceful.

Huaixi and Huaifeng entered the Gu family under such circumstances, with Changxi temporarily arranged elsewhere.

”Which family’s little ones are you two from? Why are you here? Where are the adults?” Just as Huaixi and the others were waiting silently to the side, a gentle and kindly voice drew their attention. An energetic elderly man, dressed simply and leaning on a cane, yet standing with a straight posture, met their gaze. His spirit was vigorous, though his hair was white and his face full of wrinkles.

Huaixi stared at the figure, considering his apparent age, wondering if he was the legendary Grandpa.

Huaifeng, being bold by nature, responded naturally, ”We’re mom’s kids. Someone told us to wait here earlier...”

Gu Molin was curious; such a response was indeed refreshing. He had been living a reclusive life for several years, having spent the prior years traveling outside and not contacting his family at all. He wasn’t aware of the changes over these years, nor did he know the identities of these two dumplings, merely assuming they were children of some Gu family branch... Of course, they could possibly be from Ningyi’s family...

”In that case, why are you standing, come, sit with Grandpa here...” Gu Molin sat down and patted the spot beside him, inviting Huaixi and the others to join him. The two small kids standing in such a spacious hall indeed looked quite pitiful.

”Mm...” Huaixi, thinking he was facing Gu Zhengye’s great-grandfather, found his expression contorted upon hearing him refer to himself as ”Grandpa,” yet went over obediently, trying to straighten his youthful back as tension filled his heart.

”You two little ones, what are your names?” Gu Molin hadn’t mentioned returning to his family; he was fully retired now, with not much time left. He enjoyed being with children, feeling youthful at heart himself. (To be continued.
