Surviving The Fourth Calamity

The Tower of Dark Enigma looked eerie, and in truth, the atmosphere of tension reached its peak when a piece of news broke... The Sia Tower, which was hunting the Red Dragon, suddenly disbanded the large force that was on the verge of collapse from being toyed with by that dragon.

This included the three Tower Masters of the Tower of Dark Enigma, and even the Kamente Tower, which had always followed by Fengo’s side, was courteously sent back.

Although many people didn’t quite understand what happened, suspecting that the Sia Tower might have already found a way to capture that Red Dragon, so they dispersed those who wanted a piece of the action, but they all secretly mocked the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Among the three great Tower Masters of the Tower of Dark Enigma, except for Ruth, who was reputed to be the strongest, the Kamente Tower had almost lost face entirely, sticking to Fengo’s side as if ready to serve him tea and water.

Then there was Nicholson, who even sacrificed the lives of his excellent students just to curry favor with the Sia Tower.

Although other Magic Towers have suffered some losses to varying degrees, only the Tower of Dark Enigma lost both reputation and substance.

But this kind of ridicule probably only appeared among the lower and middle-level mages, the smart archmages probably had their own considerations regarding this incident.

This included Hill, who was buried in books underground.

When hearing Aislin and Nanali discussing this matter with complex tones... both of them concluded that before the Tower Masters returned, Felis might find himself in trouble.

After all, Rolando had already swallowed the medicine... this guy seemed to want to advance to the Seven Rings before Kamente Tower returned to win a bit of his teacher’s favor.

He actually believed the rumor that Kamente Tower was in a bad mood because he was toyed with by the archmage from Sia Tower.

Though that statement might sound true, it was nothing but a joke to those who truly understood the close relationship between Kamente Tower and Sia Tower.

At most, Kamente Tower and the archmage who came out to hunt the Giant Dragon were not in the same faction... no one would believe Sia Tower is a big harmonious family... thus, Kamente Tower would follow behind like a shadow.

If he were truly their subordinate, he would be sent out to do tasks instead.

If the archmage was indeed in a bad mood because of Kamente Tower’s excessive closeness, Kamente Tower would only be happier; his true master would definitely be delighted and might even give him a very generous reward.

But, anyway, Rolando was just like that; eating sooner or later was just a matter of time.

On the other hand, Felis, who has managed to hold on and hasn’t been completely devoured by that Mental Power Potion, left them a bit at a loss.

Originally, according to Aislin’s expectations, this child shouldn’t have been able to hold out any longer... She had done more than a dozen experiments in which as long as there was a process of meditation, signs of soul erosion would be very obvious... Even if Felis tried his best to delay, it was impossible for him to do no meditation at all while he was in Rolando’s Magic Tower.

She had even prepared the reasons.

Even if Gilbert had any dissatisfaction because of this, he could only trouble Nanali, and it had nothing to do with her Aislin... How could she have known that Rolando brought his son back to be used as an experimental subject?

Even if Gilbert wanted to vent his anger, he should vent it on Nanali, who pushed Felis into the water to protect her own son, right?

Based on Aislin’s understanding of Gilbert, his dissatisfaction with this matter would be largely due to the anger of that female student Carpenter, and because this somewhat harms the interests of the Hainarson Clan, but he wouldn’t be too upset.

With Nanali in front, it shouldn’t fall on her Aislin.

So, even though Nanali tried her best to drag Aislin down with her, Aislin just responded with a beaming smile, without leaving any loopholes... ensuring no one would believe she knew anything in advance.

The only thing that left her with some regret was that, for a while, she no longer felt that being-watched sensation.

This was also one of the reasons why Aislin lost interest in Felis... Russell was whatever, even Carpenter, compared to this cousin, was obviously more obsessed with learning spells.

Otherwise, if she wavered in the slightest, they wouldn’t refrain from coming to hear what she had to say.

Though it’s a bit of a pity, Felis’ value for use was just so, Aislin didn’t want to be too blatant, so she gave up very decisively.

Nanali was having a harder time.

Even though she was prepared to bear a bit of resentment for using Felis to shield her son from calamity, in her mind, Aislin held a higher status and had more strength than Gilbert.

Even if Gilbert recovered and wanted to vent his anger on her, he couldn’t do much... besides, as long as he didn’t directly kill her, given Gilbert’s status, it’d raise murmurs if he troubled a young and beautiful mid-level female mage excessively.

Since Gilbert was giving her a hard time for face, he wouldn’t hassle her too long over this matter.

But at that time, Nanali never expected that Russell’s talents would be so high!

With Russell’s status and position, wanting to give her trouble... nobody could say anything, even if the same relied on Gilbert’s support.

Aislin certainly wouldn’t stand up for her; she would have to handle everything on her own.

Yet Nanali had a gut feeling, that she might not be able to handle it.

She looked at Aislin with a forlorn smile, deciding to make things clearer: ”Felis is likely to come out from Rolando soon, what should I do?”

Even if Aislin did not intend to help her, at least Gilbert and Russell would hear Aislin’s evasions... Don’t put all the blame on her, Nanali.

Aislin certainly understood what the woman across from her meant, but after thinking it over, she chose to give a straightforward response: ”Before that child completely falls, just lock him away.

If he shows any self-destructive tendencies, come find me, and I will choose a suitable place to keep him locked away.

If it still doesn’t work, Gilbert won’t say much, after all, to put it harshly, the one who forced him to take that medicine was his own biological father, and the one who decided to endure and swallow that medicine was himself.

He does have some room to struggle.”

Aislin’s words were harsh, yet realistic... though doing so would mean Felis’s only way up was completely closed, he could at least continue to live within the Hainarson Clan.

However, this female mage utterly ignored a major precondition: whether the Hainarson Clan was willing to offend Rolando, who governed their region, for a Felis who wasn’t of their blood.

Even if Gilbert was very intimidating, who would want to create trouble with their support system for an outsider’s illegitimate child?

Nanali couldn’t help but glance at Aislin... what a terrifying woman, calmly shifting the responsibility onto the victim.

Is this why she managed to live decently, yet always faced bumps along the way?

She actually thought of herself as the most conscientious person here!

Hill quietly tilted his head in his small room.

No wonder, despite Aislin appearing very friendly to Gilbert, among several apprentices with real power, Gilbert favored the one who seemed to be at odds with Aislin.

Hill initially thought Gilbert was just too lazy to deal with meddling, hence he directly chose the one whom Ruth had originally arranged to guide him... For an archmage to explain things to Gilbert a few times was already a lot; everyday trivial matters surely weren’t something they cared to handle.

Arranging an Eighth Ring Mage to look after Gilbert was already a very special favor.

-----------------

Hill was not concerned with the discussion content between Aislin and Nanali.

He was not really Gilbert, why would he exhaust himself worrying over the Hainarson Clan’s dignity or future or whatever?

Hill had actually sensed Russell’s odd demeanor and suspected that the kid had already noticed his identity.

After all, at first, Russell never really inquired about family affairs.

Later on, he actively took over matters like maintaining contact with the family... Even the correspondence with Ulrich was handled with enthusiasm by Russell.

That child truly has a mind, which is why Hill became increasingly favorable towards him.

Otherwise, he would not have really started delving into the spell networks of this world.

This is why Russell was so proactive in helping Felis... He didn’t think Hill would need to save a stranger without any benefit.

Though that kid let his imagination about Felis’ situation run a bit too wild.

To be honest, the temptations and poisons of devils have appeared in every world.

Most indeed cannot break free from such corruption: the saying ’It’s easy to learn bad, hard to learn good’ applies everywhere.

But as long as the willpower is strong, and the mind is firm, it is not impossible to break free... It’s just a trap set for the soul.
