Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Russell and Carpenter had certainly discussed this issue before, and they both believed that Master Gilbert would not accept the intentions of those people, so Carpenter, who was always sensitive in this regard, decided not to say anything.

But Russell felt that when even a small matter like whether to send out resources had to be asked, this matter actually needed to be clarified first.

This concerns what kind of attitude Gilbert should have towards the visitors; silence is not a good choice.

After all, no matter how bored their teacher is, he wouldn’t pay attention to what the fools in the building across are doing. Carpenter’s little girl’s modesty, or what Russell always couldn’t understand, pride, is best put aside at this time... what if Gilbert thinks Carpenter’s heart is wavering?

Some things, if not severely rejected at the beginning, may later lead to people who are presumptuous and self-righteous, catching you off guard.

Hill glanced at these siblings who always habitually patched up each other’s loopholes; they always managed to touch that soft spot in Hill’s heart.

Hill finally felt what he had lost during his time in Aesces... He actually thought the affection between Ditte and his siblings was pretty good.

Even though he had experienced many worlds, seen a lot of warmth and coldness in people, joys and sorrows, Hill should not forget what true kinship really is.

His brothers and sisters are Aurelio, Oriana, and those Little Bears. If he brings back the feeling from Aesces to Teraxil... it would hurt the children who sincerely celebrate his homecoming.

Hill himself is a sensitive person, and although the Earth Bears are clumsy, their intuition is strong... They would like the sincere gifts Hill brings them, but would also be saddened by Hill’s shadowed heart.

How could their affection be influenced by the outside world?

But Hill did indeed start considering whether, because he didn’t do something well, the Little Bear that receives it would be unhappy.

Clearly, the Bears from their home would be thrilled and dance with Hill just by receiving a leaf.

Fortunately, Hill discovered this early on.

Although the Earth Bears would understand he had been influenced while traveling, and would be very positive and eager to pull Hill back to the right path... that momentary sadness would still exist.

Hill gently pinched his fingers.

Indeed, travel is a double-edged sword.

Knowing too much, feeling too much, yet wanting only to absorb what he wanted, completely not letting negative feelings affect him, is really hard.

The gentle raindrops that nourish things silently are indeed the hardest to exclude.

Hill turned to look at the two kids: ”My apprentices, you can be a bit arrogant while doing things.

Especially you, Russell, your talents are enough for you to walk horizontally in the current Tower of Dark Enigma.”

Russell was first startled, then burst into joy: ”Master, are you confident in yourself... is that what you mean?”

Although he wasn’t clear, everyone who heard understood what he was implying, even Carpenter understood, her eyes instantly bloomed like a peach blossom.

Hill suddenly understood why this girl had been camouflaging herself.

She indeed wasn’t a beauty who amazed others at first glance, especially after seeing beautiful Goddesses and experiencing countless bombardments from Undead Tribe girls, almost nothing could shock Hill with beauty anymore.

But if you look closely at her, you can feel her allure.

Carpenter’s slightly upturned peach blossom eyes, if focused intently on someone, give a sense of affectionately gazing, deep and loving contemplation, coupled with her slightly upturned corners of her mouth, really moves people.

Even though she wasn’t looking at Hill, but at her own brother... because her feelings for Russell were more sincere, that feeling became even more pronounced.

No wonder Russell would bring this up; he must understand his sister’s charm very well and certainly believed some mages in the Tower might actually be interested in Carpenter herself.

Hill smiled slightly: ”The standard of runes is very helpful for the stability of the Mental Sea, you must pay attention to this.

Especially you, Carpenter.”

The young girl immediately withdrew her fingers from her brother’s sleeve, stood up straight, and looked at her master.

”You have a talent for Illusion Technique, that’s good, but illusions can also easily lead to some influence on one’s own spirit.

Some people, after using illusion techniques for a long time, can’t even distinguish what is reality themselves.

Although such mages can be very strong.”

Hill recalled those in Toril who played illusion techniques and made themselves actors in a drama: ”But they already don’t know what their true self is, they can’t even live independently outside their fabricated drama.

In their eyes, every outsider is a disturbance, yet they forget illusions initially affect others, not that they don’t want to encounter outsiders.

Moreover, if you encounter someone with pure spiritual power and strong soul power, illusions will completely fail.

Don’t let your performance become theater... even if your performance is sincere and touching, your enemies will not believe your genuineness, false stage settings would make one feel real.”

Carpenter nodded emphatically: ”I understand! Master, rest assured, I will definitely pay attention to whether the runes are standard when constructing a spell, and ensure the constructed spell is thoroughly understood before considering the next one.”

”It’s good that you understand.” Hill glanced at her, ”You first learned that camouflage spell, put it aside for now.

Sound Illusion Technique is the foundation, understand?”

This girl still hadn’t understood Hill’s meaning.

Carpenter blinked and finally reacted to what her teacher truly wanted to say when Russell smacked the back of her head... Lately, she had been immersed in Dismaying Gaze, indeed seeming to be treating herself as an actor, always imagining what expressions she should have if imagined to be the enemy’s parents, friends or lovers.

If she continued this way, she might indeed become one of those performers Master Gilbert mentioned.

She wanted to be a mage! Not an actor.

The future where she forgets who she is, Carpenter thinks about it and feels mortified.

She swiftly deflated: ”I understand, Master, I will study seriously and won’t mess around anymore.”

Russell couldn’t help but sigh... He still knew too little about the world of mages, so he didn’t even know such important matters.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have accompanied Carpenter in playing those role games when she did.

”Apprenticeship is a time of constant mistakes.” Hill said blandly, ”Otherwise why is a true teacher important?

Mages indeed can learn on their own, but having a guide can prevent many detours.

You don’t have to worry, if I felt your mistakes could impact your future, I would definitely have already warned you.

I don’t mention minor errors initially, not to let you actually go wrong, but to let you understand what consequences those mistakes may lead to.”

”Yes, Master!” Russell and Carpenter immediately bowed their heads in salute.

”Russell, you can start your spell chain.” Hill turned his gaze to him, ”If this time, you meet the standard, then you can begin learning the 1st-ring protection spell magic alarm.”
