Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Felis received the reply, sensing the insect disappearing from his palm, and quietly fell into contemplation... Russell must feel that his time wandering outside is limited, which is why he’s so eager?

Otherwise, just based on his daily strolling here, why the urgency to reply like this?

Felis couldn’t help but bite his cheek, then expose his teeth, before settling down to read the reply in his mental sea.

”Nanali or Rolando, neither of them will concern us. Her relationship with us is merely another side utilizing our clan’s venue for negotiation.

As for the one capable of borrowing territory from our teacher, our teacher naturally knows how to handle it.

You only need to focus on yourself, but still, thank you.

I don’t know much about your situation over there, but my teacher mentioned before..........

Carpenter is very concerned about you, don’t mess up your own life.

Though I don’t care about your fate, Carpenter would be saddened.”

Felis felt uneasy: Russell’s matter-of-fact way of speaking gave him the illusion that his sister was no longer his.

Clearly, that guy mentioned Carpenter caring about Felis, but all Felis sensed was an annoying show-off vibe.

And he doesn’t feel he misunderstood.

Damn, that guy!

A sudden surge of battle eagerness welled up in Felis, as he clenched his teeth and began recalling the sole valuable content in Russell’s letter.

Then he couldn’t help but be glad that when he first saw Russell’s letter, he took the time to first revise the meditation techniques from the Tower of Dark Enigma.

And, possibly due to repetitively copying notes left by Russell while at the Hainarson family, Felis found the text revision quite smooth.

He didn’t dare to cultivate, but looked over it several times daily... there did seem to be a slight calming effect.

Felis couldn’t help but tap his forehead a few times.

Yet, even knowing the future seems dim, he still couldn’t muster the determination... Once meditation begins, ’regret’ is truly a disastrous thought.

Felis suddenly flipped over, sat up, gazed at the sky, and resolutely headed back.

He decided to stall for a few days, observing Rolando’s moves.

If Rolando quickly arranges for him to enter the meditation chamber for training, then Felis must consider racing against time.

But if he doesn’t react... then perhaps he still has some time to endure.

If, when Gilbert emerges after a year, he can still persist?

Felis knew he might be being overly optimistic, but... fighting desperately, for someone like him, is really difficult!

Without pressing necessity, no, without imminent pressure, who the hell would choose to battle desperately?

-----------------

Felis didn’t wait long before receiving a series of bad news.

Firstly, Nanali’s younger son conveyed another wave of information: the first apprentice has experienced strange soul transformations... or rather, all past perceptions have inverted, especially the positive ones... and has been dealt with.

Felis doubted this ’dealing with.’.

This could mean confinement somewhere, becoming an experiment subject.

Felis felt that if he hadn’t escaped this fate, his end wouldn’t be any better.

Even knowing this terrifying consequence, Felis still hesitated, only daily jotting down several copies of the Tower of Dark Enigma’s meditation techniques with standard runes, trying to perfect the copied manuscript from the Hainarson family.

Also, each time writing felt like a soul baptism, still able to maintain a bit of clarity.

However, Felis soon realized he had no choice.

Rolando directly summoned him, complaining about his abnormal recent behavior, believing it stemmed from his spiritual power and soul power failing to keep up with his rapidly rising strength, causing his mental sea to be overly turbulent.

Thus, ordering him to retreat into meditation.

Even specially opened up his own Magic Tower’s exclusive meditation chamber for Felis... requiring him to isolate there for a month.

Amidst the surrounding envious, ridiculing, or curious gazes, Felis showed no resistance... nor did he dare.

Rolando was never the issue, but those probing gazes were.

Though those people, probably, nine times out of ten no longer suspected the potion fusion issue, but once he refused, this issue would surface again.

Now, those individuals merely sought to confine him, ensuring Rolando, that fool, wouldn’t harbor any doubts... Is Rolando such an important figure that warrants Felis risking his life to alert him?

No need, it’s not as if he has only one path to take.

Meditation is meditation!

Heh~ The basic meditation techniques from the Tower of Dark Enigma aren’t really used by Kamente Tower students; theirs seem to be brought by that Archmage, a more effective meditation technique, better in absorbing external magical energies.

Quite a few at the Tower of Dark Enigma are indeed envious.

Russell’s mentor Gilbert and that Aislin seemingly didn’t perceive any issue with this meditation technique... Thus, the technique is still usable, but it doesn’t enhance soul power, right?

Rolando likely learned that type.

Felis readily agreed to Rolando’s request, and in a hurry settled into that meditation chamber... he sincerely hoped Rolando would take his medicine soon, start meditating, for everything to proceed smoothly.

-----------------

Russell, after observing for several days without seeing Felis’s figure, no longer focused on the matters in the underground passage.

While Nanali and Aislin continue borrowing the Side Tower for secret meetings, Russell actually had little interest anymore.

Currently, the top of the Tower of Dark Enigma must be wholly distracted by that frightening Mental Power Potion, surely won’t harbor intentions against the whole Hainarson family.

Last period, Russell was particularly attentive to Aislin, somewhat worried she’d incite others to take advantage of the teacher’s temporary absence to actively target the Hainarson family... Felis indeed serves as quite an entry point.

After all, not immediately expelling him can be considered the Hainarson family conceding to Rolando, but it can also be seen as the nobles’ habitual unwillingness to abandon someone who could potentially become a mage.

As for emotions, typical conspirators wouldn’t incorporate them into their plans.

Though unplanned emotional factors might cause certain plans to fail, yet... most succeed.

No one believes all their schemes will be completely successful, so a sensible person chooses the higher probability option.

Russell harbored concerns about this point, hence kept close watch on the exchanges between those two women... Tch, it made his scalp tingle.

In the midst of sword glows and saber shadows, every slash pierced flesh, every stab struck the heart.

Reportedly, these two ladies were well-liked by men... hiss~

Russell pondered, in fact, if he swapped places, he would also appreciate women who were either strong and independent or skillful, but... admiration suffices.

They say the true world of mages is lonely, unless you encounter a woman like Carpenter who you completely understand, otherwise, pursuing the traditional mage path is better.

Nevertheless, this isn’t without advantages, making Carpenter, whose mind was somewhat romantic, sober up quite a bit.

Neither Aislin nor Nanali, in appearance or talent, could be said to excel Carpenter a bit, personality-wise each held unique merits, but even they suffered considerable emotional hurt, battled and developed their own conduct worldview: Simply put, trust nobody, including parents and children who need reservation, let alone men.

In their world, love is rarer than visitors from the Stellar Realm, even if obtained the future remains unpredictable.

Russell turned to gaze outside, decided from today to cease monitoring the array, as what he wished to know, to obtain, had been thoroughly clarified.

No need to sacrifice his and Carpenter’s training time.

As for the underground passage’s safety issue... his teacher wasn’t truly in seclusion, likely also watching the spectacle.

-----------------

In the underground chamber, Hill soon discovered Russell’s change.

He was satisfied.

At least this proved two things: Russell’s keen intuition and decisiveness.
