Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 679: Chapter 478: The Attraction of the Environment-Friendly Golem

Hill looked at the newspaper in his hand, and the Blue Dragon Family of the Nai’se Mountains, four giant dragons were clearing out the Orc Tribes on the mountains.

Although the Silvermoon Alliance would not sympathize with the Beastmen, they were also watching these Blue Dragons with intense nervousness.

Silvermoon City was not too far away from them.

In recent days, the newspapers had been discussing whether these four dragons would appear outside Silvermoon City, and there were expressions of relief that the Supreme Lady had subjugated the two Ancient Dragons nearby with the greatest speed; otherwise, even if Silvermoon City remained safe, other towns would be out of luck.

Deepwater City had been in chaos during this period.

For the first time, they realized that there were so many dragons in their own city.

The various factions in Deepwater City also collaboratively worked together for the first time, casting potent Sleep Spells without stopping, which calmed these dragons down.

Although Silvermoon City was considered an ally of Deepwater City, seeing the complete disarray over there still gave the people of Silvermoon a sense of innate superiority, so the newspapers almost serially reported what kinds of dragons had appeared.

However, Deepwater City did have its own defensive strategies, especially against those Mature Dragons.

Dragon Madness was an unpredictable event that could occur at any time, and every dragon with some capability would find a way to protect themselves against it.

It was just that this time, Dragon Madness had occurred suddenly and with unprecedented intensity, revealing the true form of these unfortunate dragons.

Hill did feel sympathy for those eyewitnesses mentioned in the paper, particularly for the pitiful suitor who tragically witnessed the pretty young lady he was pursuing suddenly collapse two floors of a building right in front of him.

However, once those dragons awoke a bit, they quickly found places to hide and completely concealed themselves from the madness.

Especially those Steel Dragons.

The people of The North had now confirmed some ancient legends; Deepwater had indeed always been within the sight of dragons, and that famed Thousand-Spell Dragon might truly be a certain real estate businessman from Deepwater City.

Leaving aside those even more powerful Ancient Dragons that controlled themselves when Dragon Madness struck, over twenty ordinary dragons burst out of Deepwater City at the same time.

Although most were from the Orderly Camp, it still sent shivers down the spines of the residents of Deepwater.

At this time, Silvermoon City’s Puzzle Lock, which did not allow outsiders to cast spells, indeed became an object of envy for many.

However, Hill thought this could be an opportunity to go check out his farm since spring was approaching, and as a Nature Mage, it was only natural for him to plant crops a bit earlier.

The authorities of Silvermoon City were now worried that those rampaging giant dragons might spit fire-bearing saliva towards Silvermoon City while passing by.

A powerful mage of the Nature System could be temporarily put aside for now. Even if they couldn’t utilize him, others wouldn’t have the time either.

With pleasure, Hill left the villa and walked out of Silvermoon City through the southern gate.

He sensed the extent of the Maze Lock; Elaströ had already released most of its power, and Hill could still feel its enchantment upon him even 2000 meters outside.

His Mystrian Ring was indeed worthy of being called the universal key to the Puzzle Lock.

When Hill stepped onto the snowy ground, he could feel that the power of the Maze Lock was almost nonexistent, but that didn’t mean the control of Silvermoon City’s Puzzle Lock didn’t extend this far.

It seemed that the south side of the city could indeed continue to expand.

Hill glanced at the three-way crossroad in front of him and turned to walk towards the small path southwest. At the end of this path lay his farm by the riverside.

The deserted farm had fallen into some disrepair after enduring the harsh winter; the workers here had long been dismissed.

Hill took out his deed to the land, flew up into the air, and confirmed that he indeed could take over the entire bend.

Silvermoon City had requirements for farms, whether planting crops or raising livestock; they must meet a certain acreage of farmland and pastures, including during the long winters of The North.

Many merchants, even if wealthy enough to buy farms, couldn’t afford to maintain them.

Of course, the city wasn’t that harsh; there were time limits, and the conditions offered by the Silvermoon Alliance when it was first established were far more lenient.

The reason why the original owners left half of their land undeveloped was that they had arrived early.

As long as no newcomers contested this open space, they could completely wait until the final time limit to develop it.

Hill didn’t have to worry about this, so he simply enclosed the entire corner with a five-meter-high wall.

Not wishing to employ farmhands, Hill didn’t even bother to leave a gate for the farm; after all, he could fly in himself.

Hill had no plans to raise any livestock, except for keeping some free-range chickens and ducks for eggs.

With plenty of meat shops in Silvermoon City, he could simply disguise himself to buy supplies; Hill was eager to taste the unique animals of this world!

The animals of Ferun were unlikely to evolve high intelligence like those in Teraxil.

Besides the fact that Teraxil was a world created by the World Tree, where the Force of Nature was stronger, it might also be due to the absence of the Orc Tribes in Teraxil.

Hill first planted a circle of pine trees along the fence. If not for Silvermoon City’s refusal to consider pine nuts an economic crop, Hill estimated that these merchants would plant these cold-resistant plants on half of the farm.

Then he began to inscribe a Junior planting-type compound Magic Array across the entire field. This device was a specialty of Teraxil, where there initially was no Spatial Magic, so mages who wanted to grow Magic Plants began to research planting Magic Arrays that could be used on farms near the Magic Tower.

Compared to those high-maintenance, expensive Alchemy enchantment formations in this world, Teraxil’s were much more cost-effective.

However, they had little protective power, after all, the Magic Tower was right next to them.

Hill straightened his back; he hadn’t drawn so many Junior Magic Arrays by himself in a long time!

Every time he did this, he kind of missed the Undead Tribe; such useful and cheap Magisters were really hard to find!

Sighing, Hill divided his large farm into an even two sector-shaped halves, making up 240 plots in total, leaving only a circular space in the middle.

He then drew water from the Riven River to create a winding shallow stream that connected all the plots.

Hill planted 20 seeds of the Fagara Trees in the first plot, which were essentially the Sichuan peppercorns of the Fantasy World, just with a stronger flavor.

Although Sichuan peppercorn trees had some temperature requirements for planting, all these issues could be resolved with a Magic Array.

Hill didn’t plan to plant crops optimized by the Seed Pouch outside of Silvermoon City, so he intended to use the farm’s harvest later at the inn in the Death Swamp.

Next to the Sichuan peppercorns, he planted Crispleaf, an edible shrub whose leaves could be eaten. In the Magic World, this was diet medicine; eating ten leaves would make one feel full. However, Hill mainly needed this plant for its ability to alleviate stomach pain.

People who sell alcohol need to prepare some stomach medicine.

Hill slowly planted various fruits besides common ones like apples, pears, and berries, he also planted Can’s and various spices.

Among these fruit trees, he also planted various berries, bitter roots, Qishas, and other herbs on the ground.

Especially the bitter root, Hill was very curious about the taste of this tea that Sword Bay seemed to favor, just like the 20 Dragon Well tea trees he had fondly planted.

Sweet-tooth Hill unusually found himself missing the taste of Dragon Well.

Apart from using five plots for staples, various vegetables were planted among the trees and shrubs.

Walking to the circular plot left empty in the middle, Hill directly constructed a 3-meter-tall Crystal greenhouse and then opened a sloping passage on one side of the greenhouse, carving out a space two persons high underground.

Hill rarely planted fungi, and he didn’t know what the results would be, but he guessed he couldn’t possibly fail to grow the Blue Cap Mushrooms that could be used as flour.

Mushrooms tend to grow quickly, and Hill just hoped that in a year’s time, the underground space wouldn’t be completely taken over by these Blue Cap Mushrooms.

Hill returned to the surface, first calling forth the Water Maze Lock to hide his location.

The Riven River was behind him, providing ample moisture for his use.

After sealing off outside views and perceptions, Hill started releasing Nature’s Blessing, and as soon as the plants began to grow in abundance, he did not hesitate to use a weakened version of the Forest Array.

The plot that initially had only 20 trees was quickly filled with similar plants.

As long as the power supplied to the Magic Array didn’t disappear, these summoned tree projections would exist forever, and they were indistinguishable from real trees.

The magic air in Toril was actually very rich, and the power required by this Low-Level Magic Array wasn’t much. Hill only laid down a few medium-sized Wood Element Crystals, guessing they would last for a hundred years.

In the end, Hill placed a few golems. The magical element concentration inside the Crystal room was high enough to replenish the energy for these low-consumption golems.

When spring comes and flowers bloom, he’d just need to buy some chickens and ducks and throw them in.

Hill, satisfied with his work, halfway home used the hairpin which had been hanging in his hair.

In Silvermoon City now, residents were hoarding food everywhere, and Hill could take advantage of the confusion.

Hill, loaded with goodies, stopped his joyful footsteps outside a Magic Shop.

This shop was exceptionally large, and the sign read ’Invincible Colossus,’ but Hill also noticed the small print: Home of the Forge and Craftsmen, extraordinary craftsmanship, with cheap environment-friendly golems for sale.

Hill paused for a moment, as he seemed to have read the story of this golem shop before.

Saying it was environment-friendly actually meant that these large golems were made from scrap materials, with the only commendable aspect being the price, at just 600 gold.

Hill remembered the derision in those adventure novels towards such golems.

Besides being able to spray out a trash fog, their only ability was that if they were damaged, they could pick up trash from the battlefield to repair themselves.

The protective power was equivalent to a suit of full-body armor.

But Hill was quite intrigued, just as there would always be people on the battlefield willing to buy such a lifesaving inexpensive item.

Hill pushed open the door and went inside, somewhat curious to know how these unintelligent golems perceive and match parts compatible with their damaged areas.
