Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 677: Chapter 476: Hill’s Deterrence

Hill had arranged the hall between him and Terry into a large study flanked by bookshelves on three sides.

Then, he began to place books from Ferun, row after row.

The ones he had read were put on top, while the newly bought ones were placed underneath.

Finally, he found several hovering disks, set them to not leave the main house, and casually tossed them onto the ground, letting them fly wherever they wanted.

Whenever needed, a simple Hand of the Mage could call them over.

After thinking for a while, he set up a large kitchen and dining room on his side of the first floor; in this house, he wouldn’t conduct spells with great power, at most completing the fourth Chapter of the Magic Book.

He had a premonition that the fourth Chapter would be the last, as the reaction when the Magic Book connected with the world’s source would be quite minor.

Starting with the fifth Chapter, the world’s feedback would significantly increase, and Hill had no desire to become the target of all.

Therefore, the second floor was simply divided into a Magic Laboratory and an Alchemy Laboratory, with Hill only using some high-level magic arrays for protection.

As long as it could withstand attacks of the legendary level, it didn’t need to be perfect, after all, it was just a place to live temporarily for a few years.

By the time Hill had nearly finished dealing with his affairs, Marsha had also, with the help of puppets, decorated several houses.

He entered his side, summoned a hovering disk, and flew directly to the third floor; he placed a stair floor between his residence and the hallway, then opened an elevator room in the corner for the free ascension and descent of the hovering disks.

He didn’t plan to receive external guests in his room; this floor, except for a large washroom, was completely open.

All the walls were converted into blue ocean crystals, allowing Hill to easily view the scenery outside.

This crystal seemed completely opaque, but in reality, it was similar to breathable glass, with each pore able to freely exchange air.

Therefore, even without windows, there was a gentle breeze in the room.

Marsha had placed white, transparent light gauze on these windows, which was slowly fluttering, making Hill’s mood very comfortable.

Especially when he felt the intense divine power fluctuations from the North Shore, he was even more delighted.

Seeing a hint of dawn on the horizon, he decided to take a bath to welcome the arrival of dawn.

Then, Hill changed into a deep blue robe trimmed with silver, cheerfully prepared to go out.

He planned to buy some newspapers and listen for any delightfully exciting news.

And while at it, subscribe to all the newspapers and publications available in Silvermoon City, both scholarly and gossip types.

Just as Hill was stepping out the front door, he saw Lynn who was planning to visit him.

”Good morning, Lynn!” Hill greeted with a cheerful smile.

”I can’t be at ease...” Lynn said weakly, ”Do you know how many people came asking about you yesterday?

Luckily, I never asked you before.

It was so bothersome, I just sent them to find the King of the Golden Elves.”

Hill smiled apologetically at him.

”It’s not really your fault,” Lynn sighed, ”With money, of course you should make yourself happy, why shouldn’t you settle scores?

Elves have never been known for their tolerance and generosity.

They dare not do much to me, and that’s not only because of our Main God watching.

Unless they can manage to kill both you and Messer, in Silvermoon City or even the Silvermoon Alliance, none would dare harm the Gold Elven Bloodline.

Our only advantage as Golden Elves is our unity, known throughout Ferun Great Land.”

Hill silently recalled the Elf King from Teraxil and expressed sincere doubt at Lynn’s words.

”Yesterday, I was so annoyed that I ran to live at my teacher’s house, right by Riven Shore, his mansion is similar to this place.

I need to go back today, so I came to say goodbye.

Also to ask you something.

Last night, my teacher Krayla Ruilin was almost laughing his head off. I heard you didn’t leave much face for the dean of the Enchantment Department, Xinen Haihe?

I’m telling you, don’t worry about retaliation.

They don’t get along well, and for someone holding my teacher’s invitation, it is quite normal to not leave that lady any face. She has been too arrogant, even daring to compete for materials with the Supreme Lady! Her own master wouldn’t dare to do that.

But if you still want to read in the university library, it’s best not to offend all the mage professors there.”

Hill remembered that Krayla Ruilin was supposed to be the dean of the instrument division at the Bard’s Academy, and although he had an Elven Bloodline, he seemed not to be a Gold Elf.

He had been in this academy for about the same time as Aslaxo had been City Lord, likely also a follower of the Supreme Lady.

Holding malevolent intent against Xinen Haihe, who dared to disrespect Aslaxo while clinging to the current city authority, he certainly wouldn’t make a move himself, at most playing minor tricks.

Hill glanced at Lynn and nodded with a smile, ”Don’t worry, I’m usually very well-behaved when no one is bothering me.”

Lynn was truly a friend, having deliberately reported his teacher’s full name to Hill to keep Hill from getting entangled in the power struggles of Silvermoon City.

Lynn also smiled, ”My teacher probably won’t do anything, but you still be careful.

We are just out here traveling, not planning to stay in Silvermoon City forever.

So, where did you want to go early this morning?”

”Buy some newspapers,” Hill pointed to a two-story building on the main road with ’News and Echo’ hanging on a sign.

Lynn followed behind him, ”The matter with the Worshippers of Valkin won’t be reported so soon.”

”It should be out by tomorrow! I can pre-order a copy,” Hill said with a smiling eye, ”It’s not just about that, I also need to order some academic journals!

Especially the ’Lady’s Journal’ from the University Town; I read some collections from the past two years, and they really are worth discussing.”

Lynn shrugged, ”Okay, you really are a typical mage, I only like reading music scores.”

Hill silently added to himself: and gossip.

”It’s still snowing! How do you plan to leave?” Hill looked at the magic membrane overturned on Silvermoon City and the snowflakes still fluttering outside it.

”It’s not the extreme cold season anymore.” Lynn pointed outside the city gate, ”There are caravans starting to go to Quirael to sell goods. I’ll just go with them.”

Hill nodded, knowing with Lynn accompanying them, the caravan would be a bit safer, so even if they had planned to leave at another time, they would change it to today.

Hill took out some magic scrolls and handed them to Lynn, ”Keep these; I made them myself, don’t think about whether they’re expensive.

To me, this is just something I do casually, high-level mages earn money quite easily, you think they are poor only because they spend too much beyond their limits.

If something happened to you, even if I pulverized those who harmed you to ashes, it would serve no purpose, revenge only comforts the living.”

Lynn tilted his head and thought for a few seconds, then simply accepted them, he was still in his time of adventure, and helping Hill, a fellow outcast, was within clan rules.

He looked over the contents of the magic scrolls and couldn’t help but grit his teeth; no wonder Hill was kicked out of his home before he was 80, all he needed was life experience.

Aside from Luxury Mansion Art and Swift Flight Spell, the auxiliary spells, the rest were all Blizzard, Flash of Lightning and Roar of Thunder, Extreme Freezing, and even Meteorite Fall!

Hill was indeed a mage of over Level 19!

Lynn looked sideways at that young face, not daring to guess whether he had already broken through the mortal limit to Level 20.

Many reach Level 19, but to break through to Level 20 might take hundreds to thousands of years.

He pondered for a moment, then told Hill, ”Then all I can say is thank you. These scrolls could save my life. Probably for many years.

Don’t worry, I won’t be presumptuous, if I encounter danger I’ll come back for help.

Go get your newspapers!

I’ll go straight out of the city to find that caravan, they’ve probably been ready waiting for me!

The carts of such small caravans aren’t as fast as yours; they need to leave early.

I’ll send you letters, the female post carriers of The North are diligent, for money, they’d make a trip every day without issue.

But if I really do get into trouble, it definitely won’t be because of you, but because of my unfortunate, foul-mouthed teacher.

No one would think we have a closer relationship just because I take care of my own kind.”

Hill held back a laugh as he bid farewell to Lynn, it seemed that within the vast university of Silvermoon City, competition abounded among the various disciplines, probably over the research funds allocated by Aslaxo and Silvermoon City?

Hill understood, if they really just based on good racial relations to deal with Hill, it would nearly offend the entire race of Gold Elves, including the Elven Pantheon.

It didn’t matter that Hill and Lynn were both pale-skinned Half-Elves, or even which family Hill came from, it wouldn’t affect the Elven Pantheon or their preferred treatment.

But who knows if some ignorant fool would act recklessly?

What Hill feared were not those high-ups, but those half-baked about elves.

However, with the magic scrolls Hill gave Lynn, he should definitely be able to handle such fools.

Hill slowly entered a strangely named newsstand.

Most of the staff members, indeed mostly Levels 2 and 3 Bards, were currently huddled in a circle discussing how much money a follower of Valkin had actually been stolen.

Whether Valkin was really about to be demoted to Faint Divine Power or not, the power she provided to her followers during the dawn battle was too weak.

And the followers of Cyric were too audacious, daring to enter Silvermoon City, and if he hadn’t also snatched some money, no one would have even noticed.

Hill quietly listened to the latest gossip and gently tapped the bell on the counter.

”Ah! Welcome, sir, do you have any preferred newspapers?” A handsome young man wearing a gray shirt and matching sleeveless vest immediately came up to the counter.

Hill placed his order according to his preference, and the normally cheerful young Bard’s face suddenly changed upon seeing the address written on the receipt.

Hill reassuringly smiled at the startled young man, then turned and headed out to the nearby bookstore.
