My Youth Began With Him

Sure enough, hearing Su Yu’s question about Huo Mian, Mrs. Su’s eyes turned uneasy.

“Yu, listen to me. You must…”

“Mom, don’t be so evasive with me. I want the truth. Where’s Mian? Tell me, tell me…”

He yelled at his mother, which was the first time he did in his life. It wasn’t that he didn’t respect his mother, but he couldn’t bear to think of any bad news about Huo Mian.

Su Yu had only one thought in his heart: if Huo Mian died, he just couldn’t live.

“Yu…”

“Mom, I beg you. Don’t hide it from me. My heart hurts so much… Please tell me. I dreamed Mian was covered in blood. What happened to her? Where’s she? Why isn’t she with me? Where is she? Where is Mian?”

Su Yu’s voice was hoarse as he choked out the words; it was heartbreaking to hear him talk like this…

“Yu, calm down. Get back to the bed first and I’ll tell you.”

“Tell me now.” Su Yu was very stubborn.

He must know the news about Huo Mian now, or he’d go crazy.

Knowing she couldn’t hide the news from him, Mrs. Su sighed lightly.

“Yu, Mian isn’t dead… Don’t think the worst of it. Mian isn’t dead.”

“Where’s she? Why didn’t she come and see me?”

“She… was wounded in the explosion. She’s in a ward upstairs. I planned for you to see her when you’re better, but you are so impatient.”

“Is Mian… crippled?” Su Yu asked with dread.

“No. Mian isn’t crippled… She just had a concussion due to the explosion…”

“She’s fine?” Su Yu didn’t believe it. He still felt fearful when he remembered the big explosion.

The last thing he remembered was the black smoke and ear-deafening explosions.

Hearing Su Yu’s words, Mrs. Su was silent for five seconds.

Finally, she said with difficulty, “Yu… Mian lost… her baby.”

“What?”

Su Yu felt his heart almost stopped, thinking he had heard it wrong.

Finally, Mrs. Su couldn’t bear the torture in her heart and repeated the words, explaining the whole thing to him.

“Mian lost her baby… The explosion alerted the police patrolling the neighboring area. An ambulance delivered you two to the hospital… To save Mian’s life, the doctors performed induced abortion for her. The baby is… dead.”

Su Yu couldn’t say a word; his pale lips trembled.

“No. It can’t be true. Mom, you’re lying to me. Mian’s baby was about to be born soon… How could it die? You’re lying to me… I don’t believe it. I don’t believe it.”

“Yu, it’s true… We didn’t expect things would turn out in this way… It’s a miracle that you two are alive. The terrorists are all dead. In the explosion site, except for you two, the others were all blown into pieces… It’s so horrible. I thought I lost you…”

Mrs. Su laid her head on Su Yu’s shoulder and wept; it was obvious she had suffered a lot.

At this moment, Su Yu only had one thought on his mind, “Huo Mian’s baby, who was about to be born, had died… in induced abortion…”

“How about Qin Chu?” Su Yu closed his eyes in misery and asked his mother.
