My Youth Began With Him

“No. No. Don’t talk about your uncle that way. He’s a great guy.”

Now that Su Yu was in trouble, Han Yueyao couldn’t bear to joke about him.

“Whoa. You can’t bear to joke about him. Are you so obsessed with my uncle now?”

“Shut up…” Han Yueyao was embarrassed.

“Fine. With your turtle speed, my uncle will be over 66 years old when you have the courage to say you love him. Haha… It’s fine so long as you can get him eventually.”

Su Xiaoxiao was always free with her words and Han Yueyao was used to her strange ways.

“Xiaoxiao… Are you really in love?” Han Yueyao asked again.

“Right.”

“How about Lin Hang? Are you over him?”

Han Yueyao knew Xiaoxiao was true to her love. She had loved Lin Hang so much for so long, how could she forget him after joining the army in the northwest for only a few months?

“Yao, give me some time and I’ll eventually get over him… I can’t live in the past. After joining the army in the northwest, I realized my love for one man is nothing in front of the big love for our country… I was narrow minded and self-centered but now as a soldier, I have a sense of mission and responsibility. I began to realize that many things in the world are far more important than a love affair; for example, our friendship.”

“Stop it. If you continue, I’ll cry.” Han Yueyao was deeply touched.

“Hahaha. Fine. I’ve got to go; I have an intense drill in a bit… Yao, keep it up. I’m rooting for you… I look forward to the day when I get to call you Aunt.”

Ending her WeChat talk with Su Xiaoxiao, Han Yueyao sank into anxiety again.

After disappearing for so long, would President Su come back safe?

Sister Mian, who was big with a baby, had to risk her life to get him back.

At this thought, Han Yueyao had a sense of inferiority for not being able to get into their circle as a late comer.

She picked up her cellphone and dialed An’s number again.

“Miss Han.”

“An, do you have news about him?”

“Not yet.”

“Okay. Tell me as soon as you have news about them, okay?”

“Don’t worry. I will.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

Han Yueyao hung up.

In the morning, the air in the small village was full of the fragrance of a fresh breeze and soil.

Used to the smog in big cities, Huo Mian seldom breathed such fresh air.

“The air is so sweet.” Huo Mian stretched lazily; she sat up and glanced at her watch. It was six in the morning.

It was daybreak.

“Miss, do you still want corn paste today?” an early riser, Ling walked in quietly and asked in a low voice.

Yesterday Huo Mian had heard the girl say that there was only corn paste in her home.

“Okay. It’s very delicious. I’ll go and help you, Ling.” Huo Mian got up.

“Please don’t. You’re pregnant. I can do it.”

The girl was very thoughtful. Born in a poor family, she had learnt to do house chores at a very young age. Declining Huo Mian’s help, she went to cook breakfast for them wearing a thin blouse.

Seeing her fragile figure, Huo Mian felt bad.

She decided to take the girl and her grandmother with her if she could return home safe.

At this moment, Huo Siqian walked in and glanced at Huo Mian, saying, “It’s time to go.”
