I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 250: Chapter 166: A Collective Attack

Ma Huaide’s face fell. He realized something was wrong.

But he continued to argue his case forcefully. ”Dr. Zhao, Jiang He’s performance in the ER has been nothing short of excellent. The Medical Affairs Office assigned him a few extra beds to give a capable person more responsibility and to fast-track his development. Our scheduling is dynamically adjusted based on the department’s actual workload.”

”A fine ’the able should do more work’!”

Liu Jianbang’s face was grim, his tone hostile. ”Director Ma, do you think that phrase is some kind of catch-all excuse for any mess you create? Last month, the ICU was completely full. I requested that the Medical Affairs Office send two experienced attending physicians for support. And what was the result? Your office sent over a visiting doctor who had just come off a 36-hour continuous shift! Let me ask you, when you make these schedules, do you even see your clinicians as human beings?!”

Ma Huaide’s expression turned ugly.

He forced himself to stay calm. ”Director Liu, it’s an objective fact that the hospital’s human resources are stretched thin. As the ones managing it all, the Medical Affairs Office can’t make bricks without straw. Some arrangements are indeed difficult to make absolutely fair, but in the grand scheme of things...”

”The grand scheme of things is you using your authority to dump all the dirty, exhausting work onto junior doctors with no connections!” Chen Jing cut Ma Huaide off directly.

She pulled a hardcover notebook from the pocket of her white coat. ”Director Ma, you were just talking about the grand scheme of things, so let’s talk data. On February 14th, during the general surgery night shift, a visiting doctor, Wu Qi, was temporarily forced by the Medical Affairs Office to take on eight critical care beds. Meanwhile, a certain attending physician from our own hospital, in the same group, was assigned only three Level 1 nursing care beds. In fact, you have a very close personal relationship with that particular attending, and you’re often seen together at high-end restaurants, correct?”

Chen Jing flipped a page and continued reading, ”On March 2nd, the number of extra beds in the hallways of the orthopedics ward was far over capacity. The head nurse reported the safety hazard multiple times, but the Medical Affairs Office forcibly issued an order to admit more patients. This led to the nurse on duty that night working sixteen hours straight, resulting in a delay in administering medication. But in the end, all the blame was placed on the nurse, correct?”

”Head Nurse Chen!” Ma Huaide couldn’t stay in his seat. ”What are you reading? Who gave you permission to read this aloud at a hospital-wide quality control meeting? You’re disrupting the proceedings!”

”Let her read!”

Lin Peidong pointed at him and yelled, ”Ma Huaide, don’t you love hiding behind the rules? You had people nitpicking Jiang He’s medical records with a magnifying glass for typos. Now that someone is confronting you with your own scheduling records, you don’t have the guts to listen?”

The entire conference room erupted into chaos.

The dozen or so people who were standing shouted nonstop.

”The Medical Affairs Office’s scheduling has lacked transparency for a long time!”

”Crushing people with work, is that what you call ’development’?”

”When Jiang He was in the red-tagged area of that car crash, risking his life to save people, where was your Medical Affairs Office? Now you crawl out of the woodwork to nitpick typos? What a joke!”

All sorts of accusations flew from every direction.

This wasn’t just for Jiang He. It was a collective outburst from all the doctors and nurses who had suffered unfair treatment on the clinical front lines for years, and they were seizing this opportunity.

From his initial shock to his current miserable state, Ma Huaide finally realized he had picked a fight with the wrong crowd.

He had assumed Jiang He was just a young doctor with no backing, completely underestimating the reputation Jiang He had built up in this hospital.

But he had survived in his administrative position for many years, after all. He knew he absolutely could not break down now. He had to cling to his bottom line.

”Quiet!”

Ma Huaide roared into the microphone.

”Everyone! I know you all have issues, you have strong feelings about the Medical Affairs Office’s work. I, Ma Huaide, am no saint. If there were shortcomings in our work arrangements, I accept the criticism.”

”However, let’s address one thing at a time. Today, we are holding a hospital-wide quality control meeting. The core topic is the standardized implementation of medical documentation. If you have a problem with the scheduling, or a problem with me, we can hold a separate, dedicated meeting tomorrow to discuss it. I welcome any of you to come and inspect the records at any time.”

”But today, the fact remains that Dr. Jiang He’s medical records are non-compliant, and he has refused to make corrections as required by quality control! This is an indisputable fact! If we can just turn a blind eye to this kind of SOP violation just because he has made contributions to the hospital, or because you all sympathize with him, then what authority do the hospital’s rules and regulations have left? Is the SOP established by Vice Dean Zhang just empty words on a page?!”

His words were, indeed, sharp.

Although Zhao Yumin, Liu Jianbang, and the others were seething with anger, faced with this shameless rogue’s deliberate obfuscation, they couldn’t immediately find an opening.

Seeing this, Ma Huaide breathed a long sigh of relief inwardly.

’I’ve stabilized the situation.’

’As long as I can make the violation charge against Jiang He stick today, then even if I offend every clinician in the hospital, this risky gamble will have paid off, provided I can win over Zhang Sui.’

Just then, Zhang Sui reached out and switched on the microphone in front of him.

”Director Ma is right. One thing at a time. The rules and regulations can absolutely not be just empty words.”

Ma Huaide turned his head, saying with immense relief, ”Vice Dean Zhang, you’re absolutely right...”

”However, since we’re talking about rules, let’s bring the Medical Affairs Office’s rules out into the open and discuss them as well.”

Zhang Sui inserted a USB drive into the computer on the table.

After a few moments, an Excel spreadsheet appeared on the projector screen.

”Director Ma, you just said that there were shortcomings in the scheduling and that you accept criticism. But the data shows it’s not quite that simple, is it?”

”This data was extracted overnight from the archives. It contains the Medical Affairs Office’s scheduling records and bed allocation ledgers for the past three years, cross-referenced with the logistics department’s entry and exit logs for pharmaceutical representatives.”

”According to the Hospital Management SOP, Chapter 14, Article 3: The allocation of high-turnover beds and core medication beds in the wards is strictly prohibited from being linked to any personal interests. However, the data shows that over the past three years, more than seventy percent of the so-called ’key beds’ directly allocated by the Medical Affairs Office were assigned to a few specific groups of attending physicians.”

”And within two days, both before and after these groups received those high-turnover beds, the frequency of representatives from specific pharmaceutical companies appearing in the hallways of the Medical Affairs Office in the administration building spiked dramatically.”

”You dump the high-risk, energy-draining critical care beds onto residents and rotating interns who have no connections, while using the fast-turnover, high-profit-margin beds to curry favor.”

”A moment ago, you asked everyone if the SOP I established was just empty words on a page.”

”I’ll answer you now. The SOP is the baseline for regulating medical practice and protecting the safety of doctors and patients. If anyone dares to use the rules and regulations as a tool for factional attacks and lining their own pockets...”

”Then I will smash his rice bowl!”

Ma Huaide finally understood the look in Zhang Sui’s eyes.

’So... the one Zhang Sui despised wasn’t Jiang He... it was... me...’

He stared blankly at the data on the projector screen, unable to squeeze out a single word.

’The new vice dean he had been trying so hard to win over, the one he wanted as his biggest backer, had just personally delivered a devastating blow to him in front of the entire hospital.’

”Vice Dean Zhang... this... this data... there are discrepancies...”

Ma Huaide still tried to argue his way out of it. ”I can explain...”

Zhang Sui cut him off. ”You don’t need to explain to me. After this meeting, I will hand this material over directly to the hospital’s Disciplinary Committee and the audit department. Now, sit down.”

Ma Huaide’s legs gave out, and he collapsed back into his chair.

In the conference room, the dozen or so people who had been standing also took their seats one by one.

Dean Chen hadn’t said a word the entire time. He held his cup of water with goji berries, an amiable smile on his face.

The Dean was in a very good mood today.

Because he had known all along that today, Ma Huaide was finished.

That’s why the Dean had been beaming the whole time.

He had even felt a little sorry for Ma Huaide when he was speaking earlier.

’You don’t even realize those are your last words in this hospital, do you? Oh, Huaide. You’ve been a naughty one.’

「At that moment.」

The door opened.

Yang Xu and Lin Zhenhua arrived late.
