I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 244: Chapter 162: A Sweet Dream, A Sobering Reality (Part 2)

Listening to Shen Yu repeatedly call him an idiot, Jiang He actually felt a sense of comfort.

’It’s nice to have someone scolding you. You only realize how important it is after you’ve gone without hearing it.’

”Alright, alright, I’m an idiot. But this is a special situation. A new broom sweeps clean, and the medical affairs department gave me a heavy workload. I couldn’t just drop the ball on my first day.”

”The medical affairs department assigned it? Why are they bullying you?! You saved so many people! How could they do that!”

”It’s just workplace stuff, it’s normal,” Jiang He placated her gently. ”Don’t be angry. I was just about to go back and catch up on sleep.”

Shen Yu huffed. After a moment of silence, her tone softened slightly. ”Where are you now?”

”Almost at the dorm building.”

”Go back to your dorm and take a shower immediately! Don’t hang up. Put your phone on the sink. I want to hear you showering.”

Jiang He couldn’t help but laugh. ”That’s probably not a good idea. What if it gets wet...”

”It’s a Nokia, it won’t break that easily! Go!”

”Yes, ma’am.”

Jiang He returned to his dorm and showered while listening to Teacher Shen ramble on about the weather in the Capital City, about how she only had one major-specific class today, and about how she’d recorded her roommate talking in her sleep last night...

Jiang He closed his eyes, letting the hot water wash over his face.

He felt completely at peace.

After his shower, he dried his hair.

He climbed into bed with his phone and pulled the covers over himself.

”Finished showering. I’m in bed now.” Jiang He placed his phone by his pillow.

”Pull the covers up tight.” Shen Yu’s voice grew soft. ”Close your eyes.”

”Mm, they’re closed.”

”You go to sleep. I’ll stay here with you and work on my notes for a bit. If you snore, I’ll record it and use it to make fun of you later.”

Jiang He chuckled softly. ”I’m a very well-behaved sleeper. It’s not like you don’t know that.”

Shen Yu: ”!!!!”

She got flustered. ”Jiang He! If you say another word of nonsense, I’m hanging up! Who... Who would know that!”

Jiang He shifted into a comfortable position.

The tension that had gripped him all night finally melted away.

He had a dream.

In the dream, the sunlight was beautiful, streaming into a spacious living room.

He was dressed in comfortable loungewear.

Shen Yu walked out of the kitchen, holding a plate of sliced fruit.

Her complexion was excellent; she looked the very picture of health.

There were several chubby children in the living room as well.

A chubby little boy was taking apart a toy car.

Another chubby little girl with two pigtails threw down her building blocks and ran over to hug Jiang He’s leg.

”Daddy, Daddy!” The little girl looked up, her eyes sparkling. She was the spitting image of Shen Yu. ”I want McDonald’s! I want french fries!”

Shen Yu put down the fruit platter and immediately glared. ”No! Jiang Xiaoyu, you just had ice cream yesterday. You can’t have anything fried today, you’ll get a cough!”

”No, no, I wanna!” The little girl started whining, shaking Jiang He’s leg with all her might. ”Daddy, take me!”

Jiang He bent down, swept his daughter up into his arms, and couldn’t help but laugh at her greedy expression, which was identical to Shen Yu’s.

”Alright, Daddy will take you. We’ll go eat in secret and won’t save any for Mommy.”

Annoyed, Shen Yu walked over and pinched his arm. ”Jiang He! You just keep spoiling her!”

Jiang He dodged with a smile.

This time, the dream didn’t end in tragedy.

It was a sweet dream.

Even after opening his eyes, he was reluctant to let it go.

But unfortunately, when he closed his eyes again, the dream had hidden itself away.

It seemed to be saying: ’If you’ve got what it takes, come find me in reality...’

...

「Three in the afternoon.」

Jiang He arrived at Affiliated Hospital No. 1.

Meng Shiyu was full of energy. ”Teacher Jiang, morning!”

”Morning.”

”Teacher, there’s something... we need to go to the medical affairs department.”

The two exchanged a look, understanding instantly.

In the office, Lin Haibo and several other attending physicians were present.

And in front of a computer by the window sat a middle-aged woman with black-rimmed glasses and a stern expression.

This was the quality control officer from the hospital’s medical records department.

In 2008, major hospitals were aggressively pushing for the standardization of medical documentation. To prepare for inspections from higher-ups, quality control officers wielded immense power.

Seeing Jiang He walk in, the quality control officer stopped moving her mouse, turned her head, and looked at him expressionlessly.

”You’re Jiang He?”

”Yes, I am. Is something wrong?”

The quality control officer picked up a stack of printed progress notes from the desk and tapped it neatly on the tabletop.

”According to the latest SOP standards issued by Vice Dean Zhang Sui, medical documentation must be zero-error. I spot-checked a portion of the complete medical records, initial progress notes, and today’s handover records for the 15 patients under your name, and they are riddled with mistakes.”

She pulled out one of the sheets.

”For Bed 25’s daily progress notes, there’s a typo in the word ’turbid’. And for Bed 31, the family signed the informed consent form at 11:05 PM, but your progress notes state you explained the condition and obtained their signature at exactly 11:00 PM. That time conflict is a potential liability.”

With every error the quality control officer pointed out, the expression on Meng Shiyu’s face grew uglier.

Under the high-intensity pressure of working overnight, making a typo or two, or being off by five minutes, was an entirely normal occurrence in clinical practice.

’This isn’t a records check at all. This is someone looking for trouble with a magnifying glass.’

”Director Ma said that Vice Dean Zhang emphasizes that rules are rules.”

The quality control officer said in a strictly professional tone:

”According to hospital regulations, a single typo or formatting error results in a 50 yuan fine. A time-logic error requires a public criticism at the department’s morning meeting, and the entire medical record must be scrapped and rewritten.”

”Dr. Jiang, I’ve just done a preliminary review. In this stack of records, I’ve found at least thirty minor and major issues with formatting and typos. We’ll set aside the fines for now, but you must rewrite all of these records before you get off work today. I will come back to check them tomorrow. If they are still not up to standard, it won’t just be a department-wide criticism.”

After hearing this, even Lin Haibo frowned.

’This move from Ma Huaide is just dirty.’

He’d realized that Jiang He’s clinical skills were too good—the pressure of 15 severe cases couldn’t crush him. So, he switched tactics, using administrative means to torture him.

’Rewriting all the complete medical records and initial progress notes for 15 patients?’

This meant that from this afternoon until midnight, Jiang He would be able to do nothing but write records.

Jiang He stood before the desk, looking at the stack of nitpicked records with a placid expression.

He realized Ma Huaide didn’t seem to know who he was messing with.

”I understand,” Jiang He replied calmly.

Before leaving, the quality control officer tossed over her shoulder, ”Good that you understand. Hurry up and fix them. Vice Dean Zhang values rules above all else. Don’t walk straight into the line of fire.”

The door closed, and the office fell into a dead silence.

Meng Shiyu was frantic. ”Teacher Jiang, we have to start writing right away! There are 15 records! I’ll help you. If we type fast enough, we should be able to finish!”

”No need.”

Jiang He was perfectly clear-headed. He knew what he should and shouldn’t do.

He had previously cooperated with Ma Huaide and taken on 15 beds because he believed it was necessary.

But now, he could see they were pushing their luck.

’In that case, I can only apologize in advance.’

Jiang He turned and walked out the door.

Meng Shiyu froze for a second, then called after him, ”Teacher, where are you going? Are you really not going to fix the records?”

”I’m not fixing them.”

”Huh? What’ll we do when quality control comes back to check?”

Without turning back, Jiang He tossed out a sentence: ”When you run into a difficult task, just don’t do it at all.”

Outside, he pulled out his phone.

’Question: How long until Ma Huaide is forced to step down? Awaiting answers online, it’s pretty urgent.’
