Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Brooke York’s Ambition

The college entrance exams were over, and Chloe York enjoyed a few days of lazing around.

She had never been like this before—doing no work, no reading, just eating, watching videos, and sleeping. It felt amazing, but afterward, she would start to feel like life was hopeless.

It was as if she had completely disconnected from society these past few days, but Chloe York still allowed herself to relax a bit, because the exam results would be out soon.

She had decided: if her scores were satisfactory, she would go to college. If not, she would retake the year.

She was determined to get a score she wouldn’t regret. Even though she had been the top scorer in her past life, her score hadn’t quite met her personal standard, leaving her dissatisfied.

But since she didn’t have much money back then, she didn’t retake the year, choosing instead to go to college and then find a job.

This time, she had more than enough money. She had to put this lingering regret to rest.

Meanwhile, Brooke York was already preparing to retake the year. She hadn’t relaxed at all these past few days, studying constantly.

’Chloe York actually finished her first exam. Her score definitely won’t be bad—it’ll absolutely be better than mine. I have to start working hard right now. I have to take the test again!’

”Brooke, don’t work yourself so hard. The results aren’t even out yet, are they? Even missing one subject, you could still get into a good university.”

”No. My goal isn’t just to get into a good university. I want to be the top scorer. Being the top scorer is my goal, and my current results definitely won’t get me there.”

Never imagining her daughter wanted to be the top scorer, Alice Cole was gratified to see Brooke so driven, but she was also worried about her health.

”That’s right, my daughter can definitely do it. I’ll go prepare some nutritious food for you right now. I’ll be in charge of keeping you healthy,” Alice Cole encouraged, deciding then and there to personally oversee Brooke’s diet. She was determined to keep her daughter healthy, no matter what.

”Okay, thanks, Mom!”

After Alice Cole left the room, Brooke looked down at the practice test before her, clutching the paper tightly. She hadn’t dared to look at her phone these past few days.

She was afraid that the moment she looked, she’d be flooded with news about her fainting. She couldn’t accept it. The more she saw, the more she’d fall apart.

’So I can only distract myself. This time, I failed to become the top scorer and even became a huge laughingstock. But I swear, from now on, any news about me online will be for something inspirational and positive. Absolutely.’

Brooke silently made up her mind.

Back with Chloe, she was surprised to get a call from an unknown number. She ignored it the first time, but the person called a second time, and then a third...

Resigned, Chloe answered the phone, curious to see who was so persistent.

”Hello?”

”Chloe, it’s me.”

The moment she heard the voice, Chloe’s first instinct was to roll her eyes. ’Adrian Kane. That shameless man. I clearly exchanged numbers with Nora, so how did he end up with it?’

Chloe’s silence told Adrian she didn’t want to talk to him. His gaze fell on a toy on the sofa, and an idea sparked.

”Uh, it’s just that Nora heard your exams are over and she really wants to see you. She’s been pestering me nonstop, so...”

Adrian trailed off, but the simple message was: Nora wanted to see her.

The image of Nora’s adorable face flashed in her mind. ’Playing with such a cute kid would definitely lift my spirits. Besides, I’ve been such a slob these past few days; it’s about time I got out of the house.’

”Fine. Pick a time and place.”

Hearing Chloe agree, Adrian was delighted. ”Great. I’ll text you the address later.”

’Nora is still at kindergarten right now, and her mom is supposed to pick her up tonight to take her to their grandparents’ place. The old folks miss her. I’ll have to beat my sister to the punch and grab Nora first.’

”Okay!” After hanging up, Chloe didn’t give the matter much more thought.

To make sure he was the one to pick Nora up, Adrian was already waiting at the kindergarten gate shortly after 1:00 PM. He was just waiting for the 3:30 PM dismissal so he could whisk her away.

At 3:30 on the dot, Adrian got out of his car and walked toward the kindergarten.

”Hello, I’m here to pick up Nora Shaw.”

”Okay, one moment.”

The security guard heard him and immediately phoned the lead teacher of Nora’s class.

Soon, a teacher led Nora out by the hand.

”Uncle!” Seeing Adrian, Nora hopped with excitement, broke free from the teacher’s hand, and ran toward him.

The teacher recognized Adrian. After all, he had been here several times before, and his very first visit had captured the attention of all the teachers. Plus, with a surname like Kane, a quick online search had revealed he was the CEO of the Kane Group. She shyly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and greeted him. ”Hello, Nora’s uncle!”

”Hello, Teacher. Thank you for your help. I’ll be taking Nora now. If her mother shows up, just tell her I picked her up,” Adrian instructed.

”Of course!”

”Let’s go, Nora.” Adrian took her little hand.

”Bye-bye, Teacher!” Nora waved.

The teacher waved back. ”Bye-bye, Nora!”

Watching the adult and child get into the luxury car, the teacher couldn’t help but sigh wistfully. ”When will I ever get to ride in a car like that?”

”Forget about it, Teacher. A family like that isn’t one ordinary people like us can marry into,” the security guard advised, seeing she had her eye on Adrian.

”And why not? We’re a perfect match, age-wise. Maybe Nora’s uncle has taken a liking to me. Why else would he be so eager to pick her up from school lately?”

The teacher was convinced the only reason Adrian had been so diligent about picking up his niece lately was because he was interested in her.

The security guard shook his head. ’Yep, completely smitten.’

During this period, many of the mothers had started dressing up before coming to pick up their kids. The guard, who saw everything from his post at the gate, was certain of one thing: this Adrian Kane wasn’t interested in any of them.

”Uncle, Mommy said she was coming to get me today to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. So, does this mean Mommy was too busy to take me to Grandma and Grandpa’s house, so she sent you to take me to Grandma and Grandpa’s house instead? Is that right?”

Nora’s little mouth hadn’t stopped moving since she got in the car, her words tumbling out like a tongue twister.

”I’m not taking you to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. What, don’t you want to see Chloe anymore?” Adrian asked as he drove.

”I do, I do! Can we see her now? Are her exams over?” Nora’s big, sparkling eyes, like two dark grapes, were fixed on Adrian.

”They’re over.”

”Yay! We can go see Chloe! I’ve missed her so much.” Hearing that she would get to see Chloe, Nora clapped her little hands in delight.

”But before we go, we have one thing to do first.”

”One thing? What is it, Uncle?” Nora asked, confused.
