Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Alice Cole Suspects Miles York Gave Money

In her past life, after she became the top scorer in the college entrance exams, her village threw a celebratory banquet for her.

But now, with Miles York being the one to organize it, she wasn’t very keen on having one.

It was simply because Miles York was a businessman; he would definitely be holding this banquet for his own benefit—or rather, to use it as an opportunity to broker some kind of deal.

’I don’t want to be used!’

”If you’re giving me this money because you want to throw me a celebratory banquet, then let me be clear: this is money you owe me anyway. Because I’m still legally listed as your dependent, you have an obligation to support me until I’m 18.”

”Secondly, it’s because Alice Cole switched us at birth that I didn’t get to grow up with my real parents. The fault lies with her. I don’t need a celebratory banquet, and I won’t be returning this money.”

Chloe York made her position perfectly clear.

Hearing this, Miles York rushed to explain, ”No, Chloe, you’ve misunderstood. That’s not what I meant. I’m giving you this money as your father. Like you said, you’re still my legal responsibility, so I have to be responsible.”

”As for the celebratory banquet, I was just proposing it. Since you don’t want one, we won’t have one. It’s just... I was thinking, if you get a great score, we should celebrate, right? A banquet would be a perfect way to do that. You have no idea, Brooke really wants one, too. I even told her I’d only throw one for her if her score improves and she meets the university admission cutoff.”

After he finished speaking, Miles York watched Chloe’s reaction. He wanted to see if she would agree to the banquet just to spite Brooke.

He also wanted to use the banquet as a chance to discuss some business deals and create an opportunity to invite people he normally couldn’t.

What’s more, if Chloe really became the top scorer in the college entrance exams, that would be incredible. Many people would come begging him for partnerships.

”That’s a matter between you and her. What I do is my own business. I’m leaving now.”

With that, Chloe left, taking the card containing one million with her.

’A celebratory banquet! The moment I become the top scorer, I’ll host one myself. In my own name. Those who want to come can come. I need to use my own name, my own reputation, to invite people.’

’Not as the York family’s daughter or Miles York’s daughter.’

’The people who come will be coming for me, for my name. That’s how I’ll truly build my reputation. It will also project an image of independence, which will be useful later when I want to start and grow a company and negotiate deals.’

Seeing Chloe leave, Miles York sighed and then seemed to console himself. ’It’s fine. There’s still about a month left. Maybe I can get Chloe to agree in that time!’

「The York Residence」

”Mom, you went to see Chloe York? You even offered her money to do poorly on the exam, and she refused?” Brooke hadn’t expected her mother to think of such a plan.

’How come I didn’t think of that? Then again, Chloe is able to rent her own place, so she must not be short on cash!’

”Yes. I was giving her a golden opportunity, and she refused it. She’s so short-sighted. Even if she gets into a top university, she’ll still just be working for someone else when she graduates. She definitely doesn’t have any money on her now; she should have just taken it.”

As she spoke, Alice once again felt a wave of disdain for Chloe. ’Thank goodness she’s not my real daughter. She’s just so stupid.’

But Brooke didn’t think Chloe was stupid. On the contrary, she was far too clever.

’If she can get into a good university... and taking it a step further, if she becomes the top scorer... then even if she works for someone else in the future, she’d hold a position second only to the top.’

’She might even get into a major corporation, and those companies are leagues more powerful than the York Family.’

”Brooke, I’m out of options now. So you have to study hard and get a good score on the college entrance exams. That’s the only way you’ll be able to crush Chloe.” Alice could now only pin her hopes on Brooke.

”I know, Mom.” Brooke didn’t need her mother to tell her that. She already knew that if she didn’t do well on her exams, the day Miles threw a celebratory banquet for Chloe would be the day she was utterly humiliated.

”Oh, right, Mom. You said you haven’t given Chloe any money since I came back?”

”That’s right.”

”Then where is she getting her money? She’s renting an apartment off-campus. Even if she mostly eats at the school cafeteria, that still costs money. So where is it coming from?”

Alice hadn’t even thought about it until Brooke brought it up. ”You’re right... where did Chloe get money from?”

Seeing that her mother was completely stumped, Brooke could only offer a hint. ”Do you think... Dad could have given her money behind your back?”

The only person Brooke could think of who would give Chloe money was Miles. After all, who else could it be?

Miles had always favored Chloe, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he’d given her money.

”That Miles... He’s always going against us.”

”Mom, don’t get angry yet. Why don’t you ask Dad first and see? What if it wasn’t him!” Brooke added, trying to sound reasonable.

’I’m just afraid Mom will get angry and tell Dad that I was the one who suspected him.’

’If that happens, won’t Dad hate me even more? He already favors Chloe. If he finds out I’ve been badmouthing him like this, he’ll probably find a way to kick me out.’

”How could it not be him? Besides him, who else could it be?” Alice was now completely convinced it was Miles who had given Chloe the money. A wave of suppressed anger rose in her chest. The feeling was like she was desperately trying to fill the family coffers while Miles was just as desperately emptying them.

Seeing her mother’s foul expression and obvious anger, Brooke was secretly delighted, but she put on a worried face and said, ”Mom, please don’t be so angry.”

”Brooke, you don’t need to worry about this. Just focus on your studies. I’ll handle it.”

”I understand, Mom. Please try to talk to Dad nicely. Don’t fight. It’ll make me worry.”

”I know.”

Alice agreed readily enough in front of Brooke, but the moment she stepped out of the room, she was practically radiating fury. She stormed straight back to the bedroom she shared with Miles.

Brooke knew her mother was definitely going back to their room to start a fight with Miles.

’That couple bullied and tormented me before. There’s no way I’m letting them off the hook!’

’So much for ”cherishing” me. It’s all just empty words. When their own interests were on the line, didn’t they just throw me aside?’

Meanwhile, Miles had just gotten out of the shower and was lying in bed. His mind was still racing, trying to figure out how to convince Chloe to agree to the celebratory banquet, how to organize it, and who to invite.

As he was lost in thought, the sound of a door slamming shut—BANG!—jerked him from his reverie. He looked toward the noise and saw Alice, her face a mask of fury.

His voice was laced with impatience. ”What is it now?”

”’What is it now?’” Alice strode to the side of the bed, looming over Miles. ”I’m asking you, did you give Chloe money?”
