Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Social Systems [Please Favorite, Please Recommend]

On the way back, the rich list was updated!

The Lu Family jumped to third place due to explosive sales of the Absolute Shadow phones.

Yet many insiders felt it was a pity.

Had it not been for Lu Xiaobu’s installment payments plan, which significantly delayed capital recovery, the Lu Family could have comfortably secured first place.

On the Newcomer Rich List, Lu Xiaobu’s ranking also advanced by three spots, landing him in second place.

This caused a sensation among everyone.

It took Shi Jinhao a whole three years to reach the top spot!

But how long has Lu Xiaobu been on the Newcomer Rich List?

He’s already second?

That’s a really fast climb!

Lu Xiaobu isn’t concerned about this; he’s delighted as today he squandered another 3.7 million - is he gambling on draws, gambling, or still gambling?

At this moment.

The system, which had been silent for a while, suddenly spoke up: ”Hey, Host, been a bit bored lately. Got anything fun?”

”Huh???”

A question mark immediately popped up above Lu Xiaobu’s head: ”You get bored?”

”Nonsense, you think I just sleep all day?” The system said, sounding somewhat disinterested: ”Those novels you got into a while back were not bad, but reading them every day still gets boring.”

”I’ll be damned, you’ve been hiding and reading novels all day. Didn’t expect you to be that kind of system.”

Lu Xiaobu faints.

”What’s so strange about that?”

The system shrugged: ”Let me ask you something, have you ever thought about this? All those weird tasks from some novels: donating a certain amount to a streamer; buying something; punishing someone, etc., why would the system issue these tasks?”

”Uh... I never thought about it.” Lu Xiaobu was stunned: ”Yeah, why would a system care so much? And some even ask to marry someone; it’s not like it’s marrying for the system, right? Can it even do that?”

”You don’t know this yet, huh.” The system chuckled: ”I’ll tell you the truth. Actually, those so-called tasks are just what the systems want to do. Since we can’t do them ourselves, we can only make the hosts do them through tasks.”

”Pfft!”

Lu Xiaobu burst out laughing, never expecting that reason.

”Don’t disbelief me, like donating to a streamer, the system just watches their stream when it’s bored, has no money to donate, so it lets the host handle it, we’re all one entity after all.”

The system shrugged, revealing the actual reason.

It seemed like the system got addicted to talking: ”Or like some tasks, if not completed they threaten termination, but have you seen a system really kill a host? Without the host, would the system be fine?”

”We’re all tied together, who can split from whom!”

”Don’t you know some systems act all high and mighty every day, what’s the good in that?”

”Let me process this info.” Lu Xiaobu’s mind was a bit fuzzy: ”So what exactly are you as a species?”

”Species? Honestly, I’m not too sure, but according to your terms, we’re probably something like artificial intelligence!”

”But indeed we’re more advanced than AI. Oh... Right, I found a term in another world, called ’secondary biological creatures’, those without a physical form, possessing great abilities, but can’t survive without you.”

The system pondered and said.

”Speaking of this, since you can communicate with other worlds, why don’t you go there for fun?” Lu Xiaobu was still full of questions.

”I just said! We can’t exist purely without you! To put it harshly, we’re like your pets, very powerful, but we’d starve without your care! Do you understand now?” The system shrugged.

”Oh, I see! Then why don’t you also issue tasks to me?” Lu Xiaobu somewhat understood.

”Issue tasks? Hehe.” The system shrugged: ”Let me ask you, if I issue a task saying, ’Spend ten million in ten minutes or your sexual ability goes to zero’, would you do it?”

”No way.” Lu Xiaobu decisively answered: ”Money can’t buy happiness, if attributes are gone, they can slowly be regained.”

”There you go, then why would I bother issuing tasks. Offend you, and there’s no benefit in it for me!”

The system rolled its eyes: ”So, I think it’s not necessary for us to have such a rigid relationship, we can just negotiate! Why else would I have given you that cola formula in the draw that time?”

”That makes sense.” Lu Xiaobu nodded: ”I must say, you’re really street-smart.”

”Mutual flattery.” The system instantly decided on mutual back-scratching.

”One last question, where does the system get its rewards from?” Lu Xiaobu asked again.

”Cough cough cough...” The system hesitated slightly before speaking up: ”I can tell you, but don’t be mad.”

”Speak, I won’t be mad.” Lu Xiaobu gestured.

”Well... hehe, there’s something called taxation, have you heard of it?” The system was somewhat embarrassed: ”Simply put, we slightly raise prices, and then we have some money right? That’s where the rewards come from!”

”Damn it! So, you guys are all scam artists!” Lu Xiaobu burst out: ”So you mean, I don’t really need a million to draw once, and you’ve been skimming some off?”
