Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Celebration Banquet [Please Favorite, Please Recommend]

Hua Wenyan was still looking at his indefinitely paused Twelve Heavenly Kings with a pained expression on his face.

After reading novels all day, Lu Xiaobu waited for the bell that signaled the end of class.

At this moment, Tao Aijun’s call came in again: ”Lu Xiaobu, I’m calling to remind you, don’t forget tonight’s banquet. Oh, and you’d better keep a low profile tonight, someone’s got their eye on you.”

Tao Aijun hung up the phone as soon as he finished speaking.

Had it not been for the favor Lu Xiaobu reluctantly did him before, Tao Aijun wouldn’t have bothered with that last sentence.

And that favor was only worth this much effort.

”Banquet? What banquet?”

Lu Xiaobu put down the phone, puzzled.

”It must be the celebration banquet,” Zhou Jingyuan explained. ”It’s a custom. Every time someone makes it onto the Newcomer Rich List, a banquet like this is held in honor of the new member. People who attend are those on the Newcomer Rich List, and maybe even some from the Rich List will come to support.”

”Oh, I see.”

Lu Xiaobu pursed his lips, pulled out some snacks from his backpack, and began to eat, casually tossing some to Zhou Jingyuan, who was a big eater.

”Take me with you.”

Out of character, the constantly eating Zhou Jingyuan put aside the snacks and eagerly said to Lu Xiaobu.

This took Lu Xiaobu by surprise.

It seemed this banquet held quite a high status.

Zhou Jingyuan was that kind of mysterious person whose background was untraceable.

And now she was actually asking him to take her to the banquet.

But...

”I’m not going, so how can I take you?” Lu Xiaobu shrugged his shoulders.

”You’re not going... What! You’re not going?” Zhou Jingyuan jumped up, anxiously protesting: ”You’re the guest of honor tonight! Are you joking?”

”I’m just not going, it’s pointless.”

Lu Xiaobu rolled his eyes. ”Besides, Tao Aijun just said someone was out to get me. Why would I go looking for trouble?”

”No, this is a golden opportunity to make a name for yourself and formally enter high society!” Zhou Jingyuan said, trying to persuade him passionately.

”Not going, not going!”

Lu Xiaobu vigorously shook his head.

”You!” Zhou Jingyuan was about to explode.

She had wanted to bask in Lu Xiaobu’s glory, meet some influential people, increase her say in her family, and try to change her fate.

But who would have thought this wastrel would skip the celebratory banquet organized for him!

Lu Xiaobu’s phone rang: ”Sister Lan, what’s up?”

”The Young Master must have received the invitation to the banquet,”

Liang Lan said laughingly.

”Yeah! But I’m not going.”

Lu Xiaobu nodded.

”But, it is a charity banquet with an auction! You can squander your money,” Liang Lan laughed.

”Uh... okay, come to the school, let’s go together.”

Upon hearing he could splurge, Lu Xiaobu immediately agreed.

He had been worrying about not having a good way to squander his wealth!

Lately, everything had been on a small scale. He hoped tonight he could go big.

”Alright, Young Master, I’m already waiting at the school gates,” Liang Lan nodded.

”Come on! Can’t you be like normal people? You skip the chance to make a name but go if it means you can waste money!”

Hearing the conversation between the two, Zhou Jingyuan collapsed!

...

Calling up Wu Qianmin and bringing Zhou Jingyuan along, Lu Xiaobu, while eating snacks, made his way to the school gates.

”Woof!”

At that moment, the immature bark of a puppy reached Lu Xiaobu’s ears.

Lu Xiaobu looked over and immediately saw a little stray dog, covered in wounds, limping along and staring at the snack in Lu Xiaobu’s hand.

It was clearly starving.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t be begging for food like that.

What was strange, though, was that the dog was ignoring everyone else and just staring at Lu Xiaobu, eyes filled with longing.

”Here you go.”

Lu Xiaobu smiled, bent down, and handed the snack to the little dog.

The dog looked warily at Lu Xiaobu, not coming any closer, its eyes filled with fear.

It was clearly hurt by humans.

”Alright, I’ll step away.”

Lu Xiaobu stood up and walked towards the car.

As soon as the puppy saw him leave, it immediately grabbed the snack with its mouth and took off running, disappearing into an alley in the blink of an eye.

”Hey, this little thing, it sure can run fast.” Lu Xiaobu laughed: ”I was thinking about taking it to a pet hospital.”

Zhou Jingyuan smiled at this scene—the prodigal son always manages to touch your heart without even trying.

This was just a small interlude.

The group got into the car, heading toward the banquet.

The vehicles didn’t go directly to the venue but stopped at a parking lot near a well-known tailor’s shop.

”Young Master Bu, I’ve already picked out some clothes for you, go try them on.” Sister Lan said with a smile: ”The young master is so handsome, you’ll be even more so in formal wear.”

”Let’s go.” Lu Xiaobu said with a laugh.

Everyone stepped out of the car and hurried to the tailor’s shop.

Dressed in the clothes prepared by Liang Lan, a dashing handsome man suddenly stood before everyone.

”Young Master looks so handsome.” Sister Lan said with a satisfied smile.

”Indeed very handsome, this is actually the first time I’ve seen Xiaobu in formal attire,” said Wu Qianmin as she circled around Lu Xiaobu, surprised.

”It’s alright.”

Zhou Jingyuan pursed her lips and said, but the sparkle in her eyes betrayed her.

Clearly, even she was stunned by Lu Xiaobu’s sudden dash of handsomeness.

Li Qiang glanced over and his eyes started to move.

He was specifically there to butter up Young Master Bu—how could he allow someone else to take his job?

So he immediately said exaggeratedly: ”Wow, Young Master Bu, you are so handsome, my titanium alloy dog eyes have been blinded by your brilliance.”

”Ha ha, nice flattery, here’s a reward of five thousand.”

Lu Xiaobu laughed heartily.

”Thank you, Young Master Bu.”

Li Qiang said gleefully.

...

At this moment, Zhang Meng frowned and pulled out his phone: ”Young Master, someone’s tampering with our car.”

With him and Li Jin, two special soldiers, the car had long been modified to the perfect level.

Theft prevention and such were not a problem.

Hearing Zhang Meng’s words, the group walked outside.

They hadn’t even gotten close to the car when...

”Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark!”

A string of barking sounds reached everyone’s ears.

Accompanied by an angry man’s voice: ”Damn it, stupid dog, I’m gonna kill you!”

They quickened their pace and reached the car.

They saw a shifty-eyed man standing by Lu Xiaobu’s car.

Tools were scattered on the ground next to the man, clearly indicating he was a thief.

And beside him was a small dog barking furiously, seemingly protecting Lu Xiaobu’s car.

”Isn’t that the little dog from the school gate?”

Zhou Jingyuan was surprised: ”It’s actually guarding your car.”

Seeing people arriving, the thief quickly tried to run, but how could he escape from Zhang Meng’s grasp.

The thief was quickly subdued by Zhang Meng and handed over to a nearby police officer.

Such petty thieves weren’t even worthy of being dealt with seriously.

”Hey, little fella, we meet again, you’ve really helped me out this time!”

Lu Xiaobu crouched down to look at the dog and extended his hand.

This time, the puppy didn’t run away like before.

Instead, it approached Lu Xiaobu, sniffed his hand, and even licked it.

It gradually became affectionate.

Lu Xiaobu said, ”How about you come with me?”

”Bark!”

The puppy barked once, and it seemed as though it was agreeing.

The others secretly marveled—this little dog was truly amazing!
