Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Money Can’t Buy Happiness

Lu Xiaobu decided to buy a cellphone first.

On the way.

Wu Qianmin was sulking all along and ignored Lu Xiaobu.

Meanwhile, Lu Xiaobu kept muttering discontentedly all the way, ”What sort of a wastrel was my ex, anyway? It’s bad enough that the cellphone is outdated, but not having a single lackey or even a driver’s car, how did he even manage? Embarrassing! Let me tell you, if you have any spirit in heaven, just watch and learn how a real wastrel does it!”

The two headed towards the shopping street.

As soon as they entered the shopping street, the whole place suddenly erupted.

”Young Master Bu is here, everyone, come welcome him!”

Instantly.

All the store owners, like hungry wolves eyeing fresh meat, all glowed green at the door, shouting eagerly.

”Young Master Bu, I have some top-notch diamond necklaces, how about you take ten just for fun?”

”Young Master Bu, I have fresh tangerines here, how about two trucks to try and taste the sweetness?”

”...”

”Everyone back off.” Wu Qianmin’s face darkened as she scolded.

These bastards, they go crazy every time they see Lu Xiaobu.

If it weren’t for her always keeping an eye on him, Lu Xiaobu would’ve been scammed by now.

”That’s enough, this lady here again. Everyone scatter.”

Upon hearing Wu Qianmin’s voice, all the merchants felt disheartened and dispersed.

”Hehe, interesting.”

Lu Xiaobu stroked his chin, raising his eyebrows, somewhat intrigued— did these people really think wastrels are fools?

A true wastrel is about buying pleasure, not forced consumerism.

They walked into a cellphone shop.

”Hey, isn’t that Young Master Bu! Come, come, have a seat, I’ll get you some tea.”

As soon as the cellphone shop owner saw Lu Xiaobu coming in, he was as excited as a concubine favored by the Emperor, almost jumping up, eagerly showing hospitality, awaiting his grace.

He knew Young Master Bu was definitely here to change his cell phone.

”I presume you know why I’m here,” Lu Xiaobu snapped his fingers.

”Of course, for you, Young Master Bu.”

The cellphone shop owner quickly brought over a cellphone.

”Are you joking? You’re offering me these junk?”

When Lu Xiaobu saw the cellphone, he looked somewhat displeased.

This cellphone was exactly the same as the one Lu Xiaobu had thrown into the sewer.

The cellphone shop owner was stunned: ”Young Master Bu, this is the highest level cellphone in the Heavenly Dynasty. Touchscreen keypad, dual options, waterproof, anti-theft, classy and dazzling.”

”Hmm?” Lu Xiaobu frowned and scanned the cellphone shop’s counter.

The salesladies, seeing Lu Xiaobu’s glance, quickly flirted in various ways, hoping to climb up the social ladder.

Lu Xiaobu was not in the mood to flirt; with that little ’peanut’ of his, it was embarrassing enough.

After looking around, he finally realized— damn it, there really are no big-screen phones.

”Damn, I’m not happy.” Lu Xiaobu gritted his teeth and took out his bank card: ”I’ll take the cellphone.”

”Alrighty!” The boss immediately beamed, anticipating a big sale.

Then.

Lu Xiaobu crouched on the ground, picked up the 8888-valued cellphone, and repeatedly smashed it onto the ground: ”Damn, crappy phone, not happy, not happy, crappy phone...”

He finally understood, this must be the difference compared to Earth that the system was talking about.

Wu Qianmin slapped her forehead, speechless: ”It’s only been a few minutes? This prodigal son has already wasted two cell phones worth 8888, almost twenty thousand gone.”

She noticed that Lu Xiaobu’s level of prodigality had risen again, he wasn’t this wasteful before.

The owner of the cell phone store, however, was all smiles, muttering under his breath: ”Hehe, does this mean I can sell another one? What a lucky day!”

And the salespeople were half contemptuous, half envious.

”So wasteful! I wish I had that much to spend.”

”Exactly, you prodigal, if you don’t want it, there are plenty who do.”

”It’s heartbreaking.”

”...”

”Sigh, that felt good.” Lu Xiaobu tossed the damaged cell phone into a nearby trash bin and stood up.

Regardless, seeing the system display the wasteful amount as 8888 also somewhat consoled him.

At this time.

A scruffy-looking guy, clutching a broken wooden box, ran in: ”Boss, I...”

Upon seeing this man, the cell phone store owner immediately frowned and scolded: ”Go away, go away, Li Xide, I’m telling you, Young Master Bu is here today, I don’t have time for your nonsense, scram.”

”Uh?” Li Xide turned to look at Lu Xiaobu, immediately as if seeing the god of death, turned around to run.

”Hold on, why are you running?” Lu Xiaobu frowned: ”Come back here.”

”Young Master Bu, spare me please...”

Hearing Lu Xiaobu’s words, Li Xide’s voice was tinged with a crying tone, but he still obediently walked back.

”Young Master Bu, no need for you to lift a finger, I’ll handle this.” The cell phone store owner immediately picked up a broom and walked over: ”Li Xide, you dare to offend Young Master Bu, watch out.”

”Hold on, when did I tell you to hit him?” Lu Xiaobu furrowed his brows.

”No, Young Master Bu, didn’t you last time...” The cell phone store owner mimed hitting someone with the broom: ”You said to hit him every time you see him.”

”Oh, now I remember.” Lu Xiaobu rolled his eyes, then spoke—no need to think, it must’ve been the doing of a predecessor.

He shook his head: ”Li Xide is it, tell me, exactly why were you hit last time, if it was my fault, I will apologize.”

Lu Xiaobu meant well, but upon hearing this, Li Xide was almost scared to pee himself: ”Young Master Bu, I beg you, spare me, I won’t dare to show up in front of you again, it’s all my fault.”

Only one thought was in Li Xide’s mind now—Lu Xiaobu, this prodigal son, was definitely looking for a reason to beat him.

”Lu Xiaobu, can you stop, he didn’t even do anything, why do you want to beat him?”

Wu Qianmin originally didn’t want to intervene, but she couldn’t stand it anymore: ”Last time you beat someone for no reason, and now again?”

”You think I want to beat him?” Lu Xiaobu was getting unhappy, good intentions taken for granted?

”Nonsense, what else could it be, don’t I know you?” Wu Qianmin said angrily.

”What do you think?”

Lu Xiaobu turned to look at the cell phone store owner, who was holding the broom ready to ’share his burden’.

”Hehe.” The cell phone store owner just laughed and didn’t speak, but his meaning was clear.

”Fine, if you all think so, then let’s do it.” Lu Xiaobu snorted coldly.

”You! You’re not even looking for a reason anymore, I misjudged you!” Wu Qianmin was even more furious.

The cell phone store owner raised his broom.

Li Xide closed his eyes, almost kneeling down, tears appearing in the corner of his eyes.

Salesperson A: ”Oh, poor thing.”

Salesperson B: ”This prodigal is really hateful!”

But the next words from Lu Xiaobu left everyone stunned, and the cell phone store owner nearly threw out his back.
