Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 249: Chapter 249: He Begins to Regret

In the center of S City, there’s an artificial lake, lush with trees and beautiful surroundings. Before the apocalypse, it was the liveliest place.

Now, it’s empty everywhere. Occasionally, you can see one or two spots of dried blood.

Near the artificial lake, many large trees grow, wild grass, and leaves flourish, making it a natural summer retreat.

Some zombies with dull expressions stand under the trees, avoiding the increasingly scorching sun.

Only in S City can you see scenes of zombies cooling off.

The lake surface occasionally ripples, moving even without wind.

Zombies with dull expressions seem very afraid of the lake’s surface, timidly looking at the ground, motionless.

Clearly wanting to escape, but without the command of a particular aura, they can only shrink in place, trembling.

The lake is flowing water, clear to the bottom.

In the very center of the lake, a black figure is submerged at the bottom, motionless.

The black figure has no breath, yet because the hostility on him is too intense, ripples spread.

The young man sinks in the water, quietly staring at his hands, pale, yet he sees faint red blood.

Eyes full of hostility gently close, scenes since the apocalypse flash through his mind.

The whole world abandoned him.

The only light supporting his belief in his heart was also killed by damn humans one day.

She died so decisively, not even a body could be found.

In the first three years of the apocalypse, he longed to become human.

On a certain day in the third year of the apocalypse, he began to intensely hate humans.

He madly tortured and killed humans, releasing all the violent thoughts in his mind, letting everyone perceive pain. Only by seeing others in pain did he seem to feel slightly better.

The young man, full of hostility, quietly lies at the lake’s bottom.

He began to regret.

Such a despicable him, how could he deserve to appear in front of her?

The lake water began to violently shake with his emotions.

The calm lake water seemed to boil, splashing to the shore, drenching the low-level zombies with dull expressions.

The low-level zombies near the lake cowered on the ground, motionless, as if they’d encountered a ferocious beast.

After a long time, the young man emerged from the lake.

The faint hostility still wrapped around him, and there seemed to be a substantial black aura surrounding him.

He raised his slender hand toward the sun, only seeing his increasingly pale fingers.

A trace of shadow flickered in the young man’s eyes as he strode toward a neighborhood.

This time, passing by the neighborhood entrance, he didn’t stop and walked right in.

Knowing full well she wasn’t here, he still wanted to go in and take a look.

No one knew how he had gotten by all these years alone.

All his bloodthirsty nature was unleashed during the third year of the apocalypse.

The almighty Zombie Emperor was actually a bit afraid. Afraid that she here, would know of his past.

Several months since the apocalypse outbreak, resources were on the brink of collapse, and everything had been ravaged by zombies, becoming dilapidated. Without anyone to maintain, all the neighborhoods fell into paralysis.

Yet the neighborhood the young man entered was very clean, seemingly deliberately cleaned by someone.

Along the way, not a drop of black blood was seen.

The neighborhood was quiet, without a single zombie.

No zombies, and no people.

Only occasionally, cats and dogs could be seen scurrying across from nowhere.

The young man walked step by step, each step heavy; he looked down at his feet, long eyelashes casting a shadow, obscuring his face.

The faint hostility he emitted made the small animals avoid him from a distance.

Finally, he stood in front of a household.

The door of this house was very clean, without any signs of being pried open.

The young man extended his finger, gently turning the handle.

The door opened.

He glanced at the handle; the lock’s core was broken.

Upon closer inspection, the lock had indeed been pried open, but it seemed someone had repaired the exterior, not leaving any trace of damage.

The young man walked in, the living room tidy, with little dust falling.

The refrigerator emitted a soft hum, still working.

The power system of S City had completely collapsed, yet this building still retained water and electricity like before the apocalypse.

The young man opened the refrigerator, finding it empty. A thick frost covered its interior, creating an illusion that the owner was still home.

The young man’s gaze was drawn to a family portrait on the wall.

Six family members smiled warmly, Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan crouched on the floor, a harmonious family.

The young man’s gaze lingered on the delicate face for a long, long time.

Ten years.

What these ten years offered him was endless slaughter.

The young man’s hostile eyes softened considerably, finally looking toward a single portrait.

A young girl, delicate in appearance, gently smiled in the photo, wearing City No.1 Middle School’s blue and white uniform, her figure slender, face youthful.

Behind the girl was the teaching building of City No.1 Middle School.

The young man slowly approached the photo, focusing on the teaching building behind the girl.

There stood a boy also in blue and white uniform, only his back was visible.

He recognized it immediately; that person was him.

Who wouldn’t recognize their own back?

A faint smile appeared on a face full of shadow; this small coincidence softened the weathered eyes significantly.

The young man extended his slender finger, eyes full of vicissitudes.

Just as his finger was about to touch the photo, he stopped, his finger didn’t move another inch forward.

A long sigh echoed in the quiet house, light yet carrying infinite contemplation.

The young man slowly sat on the floor, carefully taking out a butterfly-shaped bookmark from his arms.

The bookmark was slightly yellowed, looking ancient.

The young man gently caressed the butterfly-shaped bookmark, eyes filled with tenderness.

He turned his head slightly to look outside the window, the large floor-to-ceiling window reflecting his face.

He had a face that appeared warm and sunny, now with the corners of his mouth slightly raised, looking immensely gentle.

This warm and sunny face had an identical counterpart on Bai Family’s wall.

In a large graduation photo from City No.1 Middle School, a youthful and sunny boy smiled shyly, eyes slightly to the left.

To his left stood a delicate-looking girl, her smile calm and gentle.

...

The next day.

The Bai Family’s bus roared among the scorched earth.

They planned to visit the mental hospital, not for supplies, but for adventure.

As always, Bai Yifan drove the bus, with Mr. Bai sitting in the passenger seat, nodding off, looking like he hasn’t fully awakened.

Leng Yebai sat on the couch, with a small note stuffed in his pocket.

He glanced at the note under the pretext of going to the toilet; it was a death list.

The two elders who traveled back in time wrote down the bad people they knew would emerge in the future and slipped it to Leng Yebai.

They wanted Leng Yebai to find a chance to eliminate them.

Zhang Yiming’s name was heavily underlined, as if afraid Leng Yebai wouldn’t see it!

The corner of Leng Yebai’s mouth twitched slightly, his gaze drifting toward the back of the bus.

If he told them that Zhang Yiming was actually on good terms with the Bai Family, would they believe him?

Leng Yebai sighed softly, feeling things were heading in a strange direction.

”Xiao Leng, what’s bothering you?”

Bai Zhengxuan picked his nose, patting his slightly bulging belly as he sat next to Leng Yebai.

He had grizzled hair and a face full of wrinkles. After eating soy-braised pork knuckles early in the morning, his face appeared glossy and shiny.

It was hard to associate him with the handsome middle-aged man outside.
