Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Why Are You Crying in Broad Daylight?

”You’re talking nonsense!”

Bai Zhengxuan burst out with foul language.

He’s very clear about whether he set any fire or water.

The village is where he played since childhood, with deep feelings, even if sleepwalking, it would be impossible to burn down the village.

Green vines and flames entwined Bai Zhengxuan, he was already in deep sorrow, and now hearing Qin Yuan’s words, he couldn’t hold back anymore, wishing he could kill Qin Yuan on the spot.

The entire village was gone, not to mention the people inside, his anger almost overwhelmed his reason.

If Qin Yuan weren’t on Bai Xiqin’s shoulder, he would’ve thrown the fire in his hand onto him long ago.

”Grandpa, calm down.” Bai Xiqin quickly put the shrinking Qin Yuan into her space, ”Maybe that person’s aura is similar to yours, but if the arsonist is the same person, could there be another situation?”

If the arsonist intended to massacre the village, then why did they also release water?

Bai Zhengxuan’s eyes were red as he looked at the scorched earth, his voice filled with despair, ”What other situation could there be? It’s like this now, there’s absolutely no way anyone survived! Everyone is dead, all dead...”

Bai Zhengxuan’s cloudy tears fell rapidly, his face full of bitterness.

This place was his roots, like leaves returning to the roots, now the village is gone, where would he settle in the future?

Bai Yifan opened his mouth, originally wanting to comfort grandpa that maybe someone survived.

But looking at the thick black scorched earth, he couldn’t say a word.

The chances of someone surviving in this situation were as slim as the possibility of his nude photos being exposed!

”Old Bai, why are you crying in broad daylight?”

A hearty voice suddenly sounded from behind.

Bai Zhengxuan snapped his head up looking into the distance, where an old man wearing slippers, a floral short-sleeve shirt, and big flowered shorts was walking over.

The old man had a smile on his face, full of energy, even more spirited than an ordinary young man despite his gray hair.

”Old Li?”

Bai Zhengxuan’s eyes widened, rubbing them hard, thinking he had seen wrong.

”Old Bai, it’s so hot, why are you still out in the sun?”

The old man in floral attire finally reached the Bai Family.

”You, you’re not dead?”

Bai Zhengxuan looked back at the village that had become scorched earth, and then at his childhood friend in front of him, dumbstruck.

Did he just cry in vain?

”Uncle Li!”

Bai Anhai breathed a sigh of relief at seeing Village Chief Li alive and kicking.

It seemed not everyone in the village met with misfortune, Village Chief Li being here meant most people managed to escape.

Maybe there’s indeed another story behind the village’s desolation.

”No one died, everyone is fine!” Village Chief Li waved his hand, sighing at the charred village, ”The survivors are living near your family’s orchard. There’s an air raid shelter there, and they could even eat fruit; thanks to your orchard!”

Village Chief Li extended a hand, pulling Bai Zhengxuan, who was crying on the ground, up.

”Everyone... is fine?” Bai Zhengxuan was a bit incredulous.

The village looked like a black wasteland.

”Yeah, except for those who turned into monsters, everyone else is fine.”

Village Chief Li cast a puzzled glance at Bai Zhengxuan.

Before the apocalypse, Bai Zhengxuan had talked with him through the night, saying many offbeat things.

He thought Old Bai might be senile.

But seeing Old Bai’s skills of expelling fire and water, he eventually believed it.

As the village chief, even with a minuscule chance, precautions had to be taken.

Households in the village had food reserves, and he had quite a bit of grain at home as well.

Plus, there were air raid shelters left from the previous century.

Food doesn’t spoil just by changing its storage place.

So he hid his family’s grain in the shelter and, following Bai Zhengxuan’s advice, used public funds to stockpile materials in the bunker.

Now, it all came in handy.

”What happened in our village?”

Hearing the survivors were in the shelter, Bai Zhengxuan let out a slight sigh of relief.

The people were fine, and that’s good enough.

”Let’s walk and talk at the same time.”

Village Chief Li patted Bai Zhengxuan on the shoulder, leading the Bai Family towards the air raid shelter.

Village Chief Li massaged his temples, slowly recounting the horrors of the past few days.

”Two days ago, the locusts in the village suddenly increased dramatically, and they occasionally came out to bite people. In less than a day, they swarmed over the village. Everyone stayed indoors, not daring to come out.”

”These locusts were also peculiar; they were much larger than normal and didn’t eat the crops in the field but only bit people.”

”In our village, Big Niu’s family’s window broke, and they couldn’t fend off the locusts. The pests invaded their home and bit the family to death...”

He sighed as he said this.

”Locusts fear fire, but in the village, it was just me with a Fire Ability. Even if I went out to help, I could only protect myself, watching helplessly as the swarms bit their family, leaving...”

Nothing but white skeletons behind.

”In the end, there was no choice but to have everyone stay inside, but the locusts were just too many. They were twice the size of ordinary locusts, and it’s like they had their sights set on this village. They didn’t eat the crops nor did they fly elsewhere, just swarmed around our village.”

Village Chief Li’s voice was unbearably sad.

At that time, he truly thought the villagers couldn’t escape this disaster.

Bai Xiqin glanced at Village Chief Li, seeing some small red wounds on him.

All caused by the locusts’ bites.

It was March, the season when locusts proliferate.

Those locusts were definitely mutated, evolving to a higher level.

Humans, animals, plants, insects are evolving in various directions under the wave of energy.

Fortunately, those locusts didn’t eat zombies; they only targeted humans.

If they consumed zombies, survived the virus, and underwent a collective mutation, it would be a deeper disaster for humanity.

They would turn more survivors into zombies.

”Locusts? So it was to burn the locusts that the village ended up like this?”

Bai Zhengxuan rubbed his nose, constantly smelling a burnt odor.

”Yeah, the locusts kept crashing into windows, and their numbers kept growing. Even if we weren’t eaten by the locusts, we’d starve trapped in the houses. Just when we were about to give up, two people came to the village yesterday afternoon.”

”Yesterday afternoon, it suddenly turned cold; the entire village was covered with a layer of frost, and that layer of frost got higher and higher, until it formed a two-meter-high ice wall, like a two-meter-high transparent protective shield. The locusts desperately smashed against the frost but couldn’t break it at all.”

Village Chief Li spoke with a hint of lingering fear.

If not for that ice wall protecting the villagers, they might not have had a chance to flee together.
