Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 231: Chapter 231: So-Called Cruelty

While the Bai Family was hoarding supplies, the old village chief was also secretly storing supplies in the bomb shelter.

The old village chief had lived through the war when he was young, understanding the importance of stockpiling supplies. Every time, he would find a few young men to help him carry things into the bomb shelter late at night.

When people in other villages were panicking, he was already leading strong young men to clear out zombies from the village.

When others finally realized there was no rescue in the apocalypse.

Every person in the village, whether adults or children, was handed a glaring kitchen knife.

Besides that, Village Chief Li did something extremely cruel.

The day before the apocalypse, he awakened his Fire Ability.

When he saw the flames entwining his hands, he knew the apocalypse was coming.

Bai Zhengxuan had mentioned that besides zombies, mutant animals would also appear, becoming incredibly fierce and posing great danger to humans once mutated.

So, during the day, he braised a pot of meat.

By night, he went household to household, tossing braised meat into people’s yards.

The braised meat was mixed with medicine.

Village Chief Li was such a person who would use his life to protect the villagers.

He would also decisively hurt small creatures to protect the people in the village.

In the village, there were too many people raising animals.

Almost every household had cats and dogs.

He knew he was cruel, but once the animals mutated, it would be the villagers who would die.

Apart from cats and dogs, he also placed braised meat at each doorstep, specifically for mice and cockroaches and those small animals.

On the night before the apocalypse, he stayed up all night, tossing a large pot of braised meat into every corner of the village, including the villagers’ homes.

He didn’t care whether his cruelty would damn him to hell; he only knew he was protecting the villagers.

If this made him a cruel person, he was prepared to go to hell after death; no matter what, he would never regret it.

Because of his operations, after the apocalypse, Baiyang Village people were far luckier than others.

Even in the countryside, Baiyang Village had the lowest death rate among all villages.

When people in other villages were being torn apart by mutant animals, he was already methodically leading the youths in their zombie elimination mission within the village.

Young people were brave but still afraid to kill their fellow villagers who had turned into zombies.

Village Chief Li dared.

He was clear about what he wanted, what he wanted was for the people in the village to survive.

The first zombie to die in Baiyang Village was killed by the septuagenarian Village Chief Li.

Most people in the village were elders, young people had gone out to work, leaving only the elderly and children.

Despite this, the number of survivors in Baiyang Village was still frighteningly high.

Apart from those who initially turned into zombies and those accidentally bitten by zombies, after controlling the situation, very few people in Baiyang Village died.

In the bomb shelter, every household had tents to sleep in; even if the village was reduced to ashes by fire, soft cotton blankets were laid on the ground.

Village Chief Li’s stockpiling of supplies was done in accordance with the needs of the entire village.

Tents, blankets, kitchen knives, clothes...

He even remembered clearly which households had babies and needed milk formula and diapers.

Although the clothes and items he accumulated looked outdated, such as those colorful blankets and clothing...

They didn’t match modern aesthetics at all and could even be considered ugly by young people.

But they were real items that could help the people in the village get through difficult times.

The Bai Family entered the bomb shelter, and what they saw was the smiling faces of children.

Happier than the kids in the safe base by far, their faces looked healthy, obviously not having gone hungry.

Bai Xiqin regarded Village Chief Li with solemn respect.

She knew when the apocalypse broke out, the only ones she thought of immediately were her own family, and the night before the apocalypse, she simply sent out a message online through Leng Yebai’s hand.

But Village Chief Li truly used his full force to protect everyone in the village.

With the arrival of the Bai Family, the bomb shelter instantly became much more lively.

Every single person returning from afar brings joy to Baiyang’s villagers.

In the distance, where no one could see.

A couple in black sportswear sat on a large tree, gazing distantly in the direction of the bomb shelter.

They appeared to be around their thirties, wearing black masks that made their faces unclear.

From their eyebrows, one could vaguely see the man with thick eyebrows and big eyes, exuding a gentle elegance.

The woman’s eyes were soft, with black silky hair naturally draped behind her, dancing with the wind.

Their gaze was fixed unwaveringly on the direction of the bomb shelter, those eyes seemingly had weathered storms.

The two sat quietly on the tree, neither speaking, surrounded by a suffocating sadness.

Clearly appearing to be in their thirties, yet they always revealed weathered sorrow from their eyes.

The surroundings were extremely quiet, faintly hearing Bai Anhai’s hearty voice from the bomb shelter.

The mysterious man sitting on the tree slightly curved his eyes, emitting a barely audible sigh.

The two of them sat there from the Bai Family’s entry till departure, their eyes never leaving the entrance.

As if something or someone they cherished was inside.

While their bodies longed to rush forward, their fingers firmly grasped the tree trunk, restraining themselves to the extreme.

The sky gradually darkened as the Bai Family came out of the bomb shelter, stepping slowly towards the bus under Village Chief Li’s watchful eyes.

The two people on the tree moved, their actions ghostly, effortlessly coming down from the tree, following the Bai Family from afar.

After the apocalypse hit, plants grew wildly, particularly in the countryside with dense vegetation, their bodies were hidden securely amidst it.

Within their eyes was a touch of greed, meticulously assessing every person ahead.

Those two pairs of eyes held the joy and desolation of reunions after long separation.

Mingled together, these emotions left their hearts in turmoil.

Until the Bai Family boarded the bus, their gaze did not falter.

Those eyes seemed insatiable, not withdrawing even at the bus’s sight.

They knew, they were inside.

”Who is that young man?”

The woman’s voice trembled under her mask, her whole body slightly shaking.

”I don’t know, likely Xiao Niu’s boyfriend.”

The man shook his head slightly, those eyes revealing a history steeped in sorrow.

Although the woman hadn’t pointed out which young man, the man seemed to understand the Bai Family very well, instantly knowing who was being asked about.

The woman’s gaze remained fixated on the bus, muttering quietly.

”He’s nice, looks good, seems handsome, much better looking than Xiao Hai.”
