Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 181: Chapter 103: Senior Monk Requests an Appointment_2

“Invite me?” Gu Changsheng was startled upon hearing this!

Is there a mistake? There’s actually a senior monk! This is it now!

“Exactly, the senior monk says to let the guest from the North Dormitory come for a meeting,” the young monk said, holding a Buddhist greeting, his demeanor humble.

Gu Changsheng helplessly glanced northward and sighed. Alright, the ancient trees were towering, obscuring the sky, and her dormitory was undoubtedly that northernmost one.

“Little master, may I know what matter the senior monk needs me for?” Gu Changsheng thought about the possibility of making a run for it as her eyes darted around.

“The senior monk said you need not worry; just follow this little monk,” the young monk said as he bowed slightly and turned his head to start walking out.

He didn’t even give Gu Changsheng a chance to refuse!

Dammit!

This is really like herding ducks onto a perch!

Gu Changsheng touched her nose, thinking that with her own skills, she wouldn’t let an old monk deal with her, so she straightened her clothes and followed him.

The young monk led, hanging along the way to the west, turning countless bends on the shady path, until finally stopping at the door of a Zen Room hidden among verdant bamboos.

The rhythmic sound of a wooden fish came from inside the Zen Room. Gu Changsheng watched as the young monk gave a slight bow, turned around, and left her alone at the doorstep, not even dozing off as he walked away without looking back!

The faint fragrance of sandalwood and the subtle tapping of the wooden fish added a touch of mystery to this solitary room among the trees.

Gu Changsheng propped her chin, gazing at the door of the Zen Room for a long while, convinced there was no hidden mechanism and saw no significant decor, finally decided to push open that door slowly, as if resigning herself to fate.

She might as well die early and reincarnate early; she had already reincarnated once more than ordinary people. Once bitten, twice shy, what’s there to fear?

The Zen Room’s simplicity could not be simpler: one Buddha, one Bodhi, one table, one cushion, and one little monk sitting upright striking the wooden fish.

After another uncertain look around, Gu Changsheng had no choice but to interrupt the little monk, whose lips moved silently without stopping, “Little master, where is the senior monk who invited me?

How come she didn’t even see a ghost’s shadow?

The sound of the wooden fish stopped, the little monk ceased his chanting, slowly placed the small mallet into the groove on the wooden fish, and looked up.

Only then did Gu Changsheng clearly see his appearance: fine eyebrows and eyes, plump, long earlobes. If she had to describe this little monk in one sentence, it would be, “dignified and virtuous appearance.”

Although he had a delicate face, he possessed a dignity that made one feel it was a sacrilege to think ill of him; he was like a finely crafted version of the Buddha worshiped in the Daxiong Hall!

“Amitabha, I apologize for abruptly inviting the benefactor here; I hope you won’t take offense,” the little monk said, bowing slightly without moving from his seat.

“You are the senior monk that the young monk mentioned?” Gu Changsheng was taken aback, damn it, so the ‘senior monk’ was not a tall monk or an old accomplished monk, but a milk-nosed young monk!

“Indeed, it is this humble monk.”

Gu Changsheng shook her head; the gap was too big, this little monk was even younger than the young monk who brought her here, and he’s already a senior monk?

Indeed, even becoming monks has its ranks…

“Little monk, why did you summon me here?” Gu Changsheng sat on the cushion opposite the little monk, crossed her legs, and prepared to listen attentively.

This little monk is so tiny, she could smack him with a single slap! Even if he had some youthful revelation, it posed no threat whatsoever!

“It’s not that I sought the benefactor, but rather the benefactor was seeking me.” The little monk said serenely, sitting steadily on his meditation cushion.

“I was looking for you?” Gu Changsheng pointed incredulously at himself, “Why would I bother searching for a little monk like you when I have nothing else to do?”

“For seven frosty days I sought, traveling a thousand miles on foot, just to make sure I didn’t miss it.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng stiffly bent down to look under the table, and indeed, the canvas monk’s shoes were worn through at the soles.

“No way!” Gu Changsheng suddenly looked up, his gaze fixed on the little monk, “Seven frosty days of searching? Are you the owner of that fortune-telling stall?”

Impossible. It should be the Old Taoist with the big nose, shouldn’t it?

How could it be a monk?

“No, that stall was set up by my master.” The little monk shook his head almost imperceptibly.

“Then you, are you Shang Xie?” Gu Changsheng pointed at the little monk, somewhat in disbelief.

Damn, the evildoer sent her to fetch this fortune teller’s apprentice, and now the apprentice is right before her eyes, a milk-scented kid. Could this trickster be plotting to make her play the nanny again?

“Having entered the monastic life, I have forsaken worldly names, and I’m now known as Monk Bu Jie.” Little Monk Bu Jie slowly extended a hand, the movement though slow, carried a sense of inherent solemnity, “Benefactor, please hand over the item.”

Gu Changsheng was initially puzzled but then suddenly realized. She hurriedly took out the envelope the evildoer had given her and handed it over.

Little Monk Bu Jie accepted the envelope, his actions still neither hurried nor slow, and leisurely removed the letter inside.

Gu Changsheng furrowed her brow as she watched the little monk in front of her, the corner of her mouth twitching.

Damn, if he knew from a thousand miles away that she was coming for him, could this tiny monk actually be a spiritually attained senior monk?

No tonsure on his head, goes by the name Bu Jie, bears a compassionate look, moves slowly—everything about him seemed so bizarre…

“Amitabha, I am a firm believer in karma in Buddhism. Since I planted the initial cause, I am naturally responsible for yielding this karmic result. What is it that the benefactor seeks? Feel free to speak.”

“I want your master to tell my fortune.” Gu Changsheng remembered the evildoer’s instructions and replied.

“My master wandered to the Four Seas five years ago and has since been unheard from. I fear that what the benefactor seeks may not be possible.” Little Monk Bu Jie shook his head.

“This…” Gu Changsheng pondered for a bit, undecided between becoming or not becoming a nanny.

She already had a son and that Little Han Mo with the Black Face, that’s two!

If she added this little monk, that would make three!

Raising a child wasn’t such a big deal, but the crux was this child was a monk—was she supposed to set up a separate Zen Room for Little Monk Bu Jie, offering incense three times a day and providing proper reverence?

As the old saying goes, it’s easy to invite the gods but hard to send them away; taking care of a deity was even more troublesome. Anyway, in a word, this was going to be difficult!

“What to do?” Should she invite him? Or should she not? Gu Changsheng frowned and pondered.

Meanwhile, Little Monk Bu Jie simply observed indifferently, not hastening, not sorrowful, not happy, not anxious…
