Chapter 123: Chapter 68: Schemes in the Dark and Light Are All Just Schemes

Gu Changsheng effortlessly intimidated his family.

Eunuch Yuan Bao was so busy that he was running off his feet!

After returning to the County Prince’s Mansion and learning about the grain price incident, Eunuch Yuan Bao’s rotund body trembled with anger, almost falling apart. After instructing his subordinates to investigate thoroughly, he waved his plump arm, “Bring me that thoughtless Mu Wanxuan! Bring her here!”

Eunuch Yuan Bao, who was usually a kind person, was very angry. His subordinates were terrified, and their execution was unquestionable. In no time, they brought Mu Wanxuan over, accompanied by several Commanders from the remaining Hidden Guard with stern faces.

“Mu Wanxuan, how many times have I hinted to you? Put aside your delusions. Yet you still dare to jeopardize the important matters for your own selfish desires. As one of the chief officers of the Hidden Guard, you should know the punishment you deserve!” Eunuch Yuan Bao extended his finger, pointing at the defiant Mu Wanxuan, a look of frustration on his face.

Everyone was puzzled; Mu Wanxuan had followed the Commandery Prince since she was young and had worked with Yuan Bao for many years. How could she have jeopardized important matters?

...

“Eunuch Yuan Bao, please don’t be annoyed. Is there some misunderstanding here?” Despite her slender figure, Diao Chan had a rugged male countenance. Being a woman, she was the first to try to smooth things over as the peacemaker.

“Right, she has worked with us for many years and is definitely not someone who would neglect her duties for personal reasons.”

“Eunuch Yuan Bao, have you verified everything?”

…

Eunuch Yuan Bao looked at the defenders with a rare serious gaze, turning toward the unmoved Mu Wanxuan.

“By the order of our master, I sent you to protect Lady Changsheng. You failed in your duty, this is hindering the army!”

“Lady Changshsheng sent you to report the unusual changes in the grain prices, but you concealed the news and delayed military intelligence, this is misleading the army!”

“Intercepting reports from the Dark Camp, usurping command without authorization, this is deceiving the army!”

With each accusation Eunuch Yuan Bao made, the people’s expressions grew more solemn.

“Third Sister Mu, is this true?” clad in a dark battle robe, Diao Chan looked incredulously at Mu Wanxuan.

Mu Wanxuan’s eyes flickered, and then she bowed her head.

Her silence left those around her at a loss for what further defense to offer on her behalf.

“Third Sister! Is this true?” Diao Chan questioned fiercely. Known for her fiery temper and as one of the ten Commanders of the Dark Camp, her ferocity was well known.

“Mu Wanxuan, you can drop the ‘silence is golden’ act. The evidence is irrefutable, you’ve committed such a grave crime, do you have any defense to offer?” Yuan Bao scrutinized the roomful of people, a trace of reluctance in his eyes.

Years of companionship had given Yuan Bao a personal hope that Mu Wanxuan could deny everything.

Everyone else had similar thoughts, their faces showing their inner turmoil.

Under the gaze of everyone, Mu Wanxuan finally raised her head, her expression inscrutable. She spoke, “Is it you who seeks to punish me, or is it Gu Changsheng who seeks to punish me?”

Everybody had waited so long, but still could not get the answer they desired. In truth, they understood that since Yuan Bao was so certain, the possibility of the accusation being false was extremely slim.

“Mu Wanxuan! Third Sister Mu! Third Sister! You drew your sword against Lady Changsheng, and she merely gave you a light punishment as a stern warning. If she wanted to deal with you, why would she bother with such an elaborate scheme? The Military Token is now in her possession, we must all obey her orders, as commanded by our master. Who would dare to defy that?”

“Hindering the army, misleading the army, deceiving the army, these three capital offenses… Yan Ting, take her to your Punishment Hall for military judgment!” Eunuch Yuan Bao said, then turned his back.

He was reluctant, but military law is as immovable as a mountain. How could it be ignored? Although he was not a military genius, he knew that setting such a precedent would lead to great disaster; such an example must not be set! Otherwise, the military law of the Dark Camp would be rendered null and void!

Yan Ting, a Doctor with great medical skills, was extremely violent and murderous by nature, always fair and stern in his dealings, uncompromising and upright. Having been in charge of the Punishment Hall for years, the place had virtually become the Forbidden Land of the Dark Camp. Unless it was a matter of great importance, hardly anyone dared to set foot there, even the ten Commanders of the Dark Camp were not exceptions.

At that moment, Yan Ting stood clad in black robes in a backlit place, his expression obscured, and after a slight hesitation, he spoke in a grim voice, “Someone, take the criminal… Mu Wanxuan to the Punishment Hall!”

As his voice fell, two robust black-clad soldiers entered, completely disregarding Mu Wanxuan’s futile struggles, violently restraining her.

“Gu Changsheng, I, Mu Wanxuan, am waiting to see what end awaits you!”

“Scoundrel, you will end up in Avici Hell one day, your tongue cut out and your heart gouged, rolling down the knife mountain into the boiling oil…” Mu Wanxuan, with her hair disheveled and a face full of hatred, cursed.

Everyone watched the scene in silence.

“Entering my Punishment Hall, with these three offenses, each should be punished. You no longer have the chance to wait!” Yan Ting’s eyes filled with a bloodthirsty red, and he gestured to lead the way out, “Take her away!”
