Chapter 107: Chapter 58 Glutton Yuan Bao_2

“It must be built well, Lady Changsheng has high hopes for our new home.” Xiao Cui came over, patted his shoulder, and walked away.

Eunuch Yuan Bao looked sadly as people passed by him one after another, finally Han Qiu approached.

“Pitiful.” Han Qiu dropped two words, patted him, and left as well.

“At last someone knows I’m pitiable. I’m a Grand Steward, not a contractor…” Wuu wuu… Lady Changsheng really, she’s bullying me too much! Why is my life as Yuan Bao so miserable, oh my lord, save me!

“Eunuch Yuan Bao, you failed to clearly convey the message of the Commandery Prince’s departure. Lady Changsheng has been worried about you for a long time.” Dong Lei stood to one side, sympathetically revealing the truth.

“So, the crux of the matter is here, but what can my lord do? Could I have stopped it?” Yuan Bao felt aggrieved.

...

“Lady Changsheng said, your master left without taking a single cloud with him, so this black pot, you’ll have to carry.” Dong Lei found a kindred spirit, immediately considering Yuan Bao as a confidant, “Lady Changsheng said, you need to pick the soft persimmons to squeeze.”

Now Eunuch Yuan Bao really cried, looking grievously towards his quarters, “So I’m that soft persimmon?”

“Exactly,” Dong Lei grabbed Yuan Bao’s sleeve, “Come on, don’t be sad; building a house is a big deal. Lady Changsheng entrusting you with it shows you can be trusted with great responsibilities, unlike me who only knows how to cook.”

“Liar! Your lady just called me a useless nitwit in front of everyone.” As Dong Lei dragged him toward the kitchen, Yuan Bao protested, he had heard it clearly, and anything that came with ‘goods’ definitely wasn’t a compliment!

“You don’t understand, my lady only speaks so freely in front of her own people, never so casually in front of outsiders. Doesn’t that make you one of us now? Let’s go, let’s go, I’ll make you something tasty. Lady Changsheng said, food shouldn’t be eaten for free, so you just consider it as paying for work with food.”

Counted as one of their own, Yuan Bao felt a little better inside and obediently followed Dong Lei into the kitchen.

Gu Changsheng had the life of a Princess, if she was poor then so be it, but with money, she naturally wouldn’t let herself be mistreated. Regarding food, clothing, shelter, and transport, Gu Changsheng sought to be thoroughly contented and satisfied.

Dong Lei had a great capacity for understanding. Although Gu Changsheng wasn’t fond of cooking, her research into modern cuisine was exhaustive.

She taught Dong Lei how to cook various dishes and prepare various meals generously without concealing any skills. The task of practical cooking was left to Dong Lei, while she was only responsible for eating and providing feedback now and then. Her suggestions helped improve Dong Lei’s culinary skills and better satisfy her gastronomic desires.

“My lady, are you just going to be a hands-off manager like this?” Xiao Cui asked while sewing a summer shirt for the Young Master.

“Do you know how to build a house?” Gu Changsheng turned around, looking at Xiao Cui.

“No,” Xiao Cui shook her head in response.

“There you go. You don’t, I don’t, and no one in our household does. That’s why we must leave it to the professionals,” Gu Changsheng spread her hands in a helpless gesture.

“But Eunuch Yuan Bao doesn’t know either. How is giving it to him any different from us trying to build it ourselves?”

“Yuan Bao might not know, but he is Eunuch Yuan Bao,” Gu Changsheng curled her lips slightly, “Would you dare to skimp on work in front of the Grand Steward of the County Prince’s Mansion? Would you dare to slack off in front of the Grand Steward of the County Prince’s Mansion?”

“So, identity is very important, we need to make good use of it to achieve more with less effort. This task is meant for Yuan Bao,” Gu Changsheng clapped her hands, making a decision.

“My lady, in that case, wouldn’t your involvement with Prince Mu become even more complicated?” Xiao Cui hesitated, but still spoke up.

At Xiao Cui’s words, Gu Changsheng felt deeply saddened, she looked up at the ceiling weakly and murmured, “Do you think it’s still possible to keep things clear? You better hope that the spy above the roof is a woman, otherwise, when that evildoer Zhou Mu comes back, I must tell him someone has been watching me change clothes!”

Xiao Cui followed her lady’s gaze upwards and saw a few dust particles fall from the cracks in the cattail roofing, clearly, there was someone on the roof!

“So, entanglements are everywhere, it’s impossible to clear things up and reason only makes it more confusing. We should just go with the flow.” She didn’t know how to face Zhou Mu’s feelings, she wasn’t someone who would just accept things passively, but it seemed Zhou Mu wasn’t someone who would compromise easily either. Before he left, he dug a big hole, burying her in it. Now, the whole Liuzhou knew that she, Gu Changsheng, was a woman with a husband. This was clearly a killer move to block her love life, so despicable, so sleazy!

“My lady, your reputation is ruined with all the rumors and gossip spreading through the city,” Xiao Cui spoke up, not without worry.

“Reputation is a burden, a good reputation doesn’t necessarily mean it will be recorded in history. Maybe I will end up infamous for ages, what’s there to fear?”

Xiao Cui was speechless, the lady was so nonchalant. Reputation is so important to a woman, yet the lady discarded it as if it was nothing. Even someone as principled as Dong Lei was helpless against the lady. They truly had no choice but to give up!

“With rumors and gossip all over Liuzhou, who doesn’t recognize Gu Changsheng? It’s said that people fear fame as pigs fear fattening, it seems that I, your lady, might as well be ready to be served on the altar,” Gu Changsheng lamented sorrowfully.

“My lady, the late-night snack is ready,” Dong Lei called from outside the door.

Gu Changsheng snapped out of her reverie and responded, “Send some over to the two doctors at the front court who are looking after Butcher Wang, and is the blood-nourishing soup I asked you to prepare done?”

“It’s done, still being kept warm on the stove,” Dong Lei answered obediently.

“Take it to the front court, feed it to Butcher Wang, tell him to recover quickly and get out of my Medical hall.” Gu Changsheng, still holding a grudge against Old Lady Wang for causing trouble and having to look after her son, couldn’t hide her ire.

“Yes,” Dong Lei bowed and gave Yuan Bao, who was eagerly waiting, a look. He then went off to deliver the late-night snack to the front court.
