Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 122: Chapter 67: Education Issues_2

“`

“Yes,” Dong Lei answered promptly, efficiently procuring a medicine bowl and tray. He carefully filtered out the dregs and filled the bowl.

“Madam, the medicine is very hot,” Dong Lei carried the tray over, reminding her that the surgery room should not be entered casually, as it might affect the Young Master.

Gu Changsheng took the medicine, blew on it to cool it down, and turned to return to the sickroom. Suddenly, he looked back with a friendly expression, “I feel like you had more to say just now. I will go take care of my son first, you continue…”

The three watched their madam disappear at the doorway, “…”

Madam surely didn’t hear, right? If Madam had heard, she definitely wouldn’t be in such a good mood!

...

It had to be said, the three were right in their guess. When Gu Changsheng was focused on something, especially surgery, he would indeed be completely absorbed, with no heed to the outside world, fully devoted to the task at hand. He had truly not heard.

Therefore, he didn’t take it to heart. He stayed at the bedside, vigilantly watching over his “Little Meat Bun” son all night, wiping and feeding medicine, without asking for help from anyone.

Furthermore, the next day when his son woke up, though he was slightly feverish, it was under control. Gu Changsheng’s heart finally settled down. However, just as he was feeling relieved, something else happened.

“What is this?” Gu Changsheng pointed at a book laying in front of him.

Damn it, a book like this, so lavish in this era, is absolutely a luxury, extravagantly wasteful! Truly too wasteful! One shouldn’t splurge on such things even if they have the money!

“The Three Character Classic,” Uncle Song hesitantly rubbed his hands together but still mustered the courage to speak up.

Madam is just pretending to ask, isn’t she?

Of course, Gu Changsheng was pretending to ask. The three characters “Three Character Classic” were printed unmistakably large on the blue cover, and these three characters were just too recognizable, making it hard for her to feign ignorance.

“So?” She wasn’t playing the fool, she genuinely didn’t understand what Uncle Song was up to. Did he think she was so uneducated that she needed to strive to improve in order to bring honor to the Gu Family and rejuvenate it? That was just too far-fetched!

Her son could recite “The Three Character Classic” backward, no less!

“You must want me to pass this on to Gu Ze, right? But this is just too wasteful. I’ve already recited a copy to him and even added my own commentary to guarantee that it’s easy to understand for young and old alike,” Gu Changsheng patted the copy of “The Three Character Classic,” boasting proudly.

Uncle Song coughed, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead in secret. Communicating with the madam was truly difficult!

“Uncle Song, what’s the matter with you? You look so discontented, are you looking to find a spouse?” Gu Changsheng rested her chin on her hands, her laughter full of innuendo, thinking of lust upon fullness and warmth. Uncle Song having such thoughts, from a doctor’s perspective, is quite understandable, despite being on the older side, he would still have his physiological needs, right?

“If you want to find a pretty young woman, that’s not an issue. I’ll take care of it. May-December romance, may-December romance. Uncle Song, whoever you have taken a fancy to, just tell me. Status isn’t a barrier, age isn’t a problem, love is the only truth…” Gu Changsheng’s eyes twinkled mischievously as she teased Uncle Song, her expressions vividly animated.

“Madam!” Uncle Song shouted in frustration, his face flushing red, his hesitancy disappearing in a moment. Look at this, how could he possibly teach the Young Master properly? For the Young Master, he’d give it his all!

“Madam, there is the story of Mencius’ Mother Moving House within ‘The Three Character Classic’,” Uncle Song finally said, gathering his courage.

“`

“`”Mencius’ mother, choosing the neighborhood to live?” Gu Changsheng raised an eyebrow. Was today an examination of knowledge?

“Exactly! Mencius’ mother, choosing the neighborhood to live!” Uncle Song took a long sigh of relief, finally getting to the point!

Gu Changsheng looked at Uncle Song’s relieved expression and wondered what the rhythm was. Could it be that the price of rice had gone up, and her consumption of meat in the past two days had been a bit excessive, causing her brain to act foolishly?

“Do you understand the meaning of this sentence, my lady?” Uncle Song wiped the sweat from his brow and silently prayed that his wife wouldn’t pretend to be confused while knowing better.

Gu Changsheng nodded woodenly, then brushed aside her doubts and began the “exam” with renewed energy. She hadn’t played the student for many years, and being questioned like this once in a while, she needed to show off her erudition, or else it would be an insult to the library she had poisoned!

“Mencius’ mother, choosing the neighborhood to live, hence there’s the story of Mencius’ mother moving three times.”

“The first move was next to the graveyard. The young Mencius, keen and eager to learn, picked up the adult rituals of kneeling and wailing. Mencius’ mother was enraged and said: ‘This is not a place to raise my son.’ So, she moved!

“The second move was next to the marketplace. The young Mencius, keen and eager to learn, imitated the merchants: bowing to welcome guests, entertaining, and haggling. Mencius’ mother was angry again, saying: ‘This is also not a place to raise my son.’ So, she moved again!

“The third move was next to the School Palace. One must say, Mencius’ mother had a discerning eye. The place was truly top-notch. There, the keen and eager Mencius had nothing to learn but the attitudes of clerks, proceeding and retreating in order, humble and polite, and only then was Mencius’ mother satisfied!”

Uncle Song listened, and the sweat on his forehead kept pouring down.

“So, it’s great to become a literary master, but it’s a pity to suppress everything else. Without someone to lead in sacrificial rites, ritual propriety collapses, without merchants, the state’s foundation is shaken. Every profession produces its own top scorer, thus, the act of Mencius’ mother moving three times was good but not perfectly so.” Gu Changsheng said all this in a flow, and in the end, she added with self-satisfaction, “The above is purely my humble opinion. If it coincides with anyone else’s, it’s purely coincidental!”

Uncle Song, like a mummy, retreated with the Three Character Classic in hand, and at the door were standing not one… not two… but four mummies!

Gu Changsheng tilted her head, looking at the retreating figures and immediately had an epiphany! She curled her lips contemptuously. A bunch of overreaching fools trying to outwit her!

Expecting her to emulate Mencius’ mother and be a true Holy Mother? Impossible!

“Having me emulate the Holy Mother might be a bit difficult. If you’re capable, move a mother for me to see!” She said with her eyes curving, her voice mild.

The crowd outside scattered like birds and beasts. The attempt to negotiate moving three times went nowhere, and moving a mother was pure fantasy! In short, Young Master’s education was still a problem!

“Achieving immortality cannot be done in one fell swoop; the task is heavy and the road is long. The revolution has not yet succeeded; you all must continue to strive!” Gu Changsheng, fearing that she hadn’t shaken them enough, just couldn’t help adding another line.

The fleeing crowd: “…”
