Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 114: Chapter 63: Hiding away in leisure at the foot of Baili Mountain

The time had come to the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, the Qixi Festival, and Gu Changsheng could say she disregarded everyone’s wishes as she resolutely moved to the quadrangle at the foot of Baili Mountain.

After her medical reputation spread far and wide in a high-profile and brash manner, Gu Changsheng waved her hand without taking a single cloud with her, and she became incredibly low-profile, avoiding the public eye.

What rumors! What medical fame! You go ahead and keep busy, please allow her to find a place to escape the summer heat and also treat her son’s illness!

Eunuch Yuan Bao begged unabashedly for a long time, asking her to move to the Royal Mansion, but Gu Changsheng replied that it was improper and refused to go!

They wanted her to move to the Commandery Prince’s Guesthouse at the foot of Baili Mountain, but Gu Changsheng replied that it wasn’t free and refused to go!

All the doctors in Liuzhou City went crazy looking for Lady Changsheng without success. In the Gu Family Medical Hall, only Eunuch Yuan Bao was left scurrying around. They wanted to inquire, but seeing Eunuch Yuan Bao’s face, which really couldn’t be considered good, the people didn’t dare to approach; they could only wait until the Gu Family rebuilt, then visit and seek an audience.

...

Meanwhile, the three people who participated in Butcher Wang’s surgery, including Elder Xu, were swamped with visitors, as the doctors who came to call were endless, mostly wanting to find out the details of how Lady Changsheng treated Butcher Wang. The few didn’t hide anything, sharing everything they knew, but they always added at the end, “Lady Changsheng said that such surgery has an extremely high risk factor, and Butcher Wang was saved because his vital organs were not injured, so it should not be blindly imitated.”

Indeed! So, even if they knew the method, they didn’t know if they could succeed!

On the other hand, Hu Yihai was intently recording the making of catgut sutures that he had extracted from Xiao Cui’s words.

“Father, are you really going to write a book and make a statement for Lady Changsheng?” Hu Tiandong, whose face had mostly recovered, stood to the side, grinding something as he spoke up.

“Of course,” Hu Yihai replied without even lifting his head.

“Father, can Lady Changsheng really live up to the name of the Divine Doctor?” Hu Tiandong frowned, unsatisfied as he continued, “She’s just a twenty-year-old woman, can she truly take on the name of Medical God?”

“Foolish child, Shennong tasted all kinds of herbs and only then was known as the Medical God for generations, Qin Family was mentored by Master Chang Sang, practiced medicine in various states to bring the dead back to life, and thus earned the name of the Divine Doctor Bian Que. Lady Changsheng revived Butcher Wang, but there is still a distance before she can be called a Divine Doctor,” Hu Yihai said as he placed his brush on the stand to one side and carefully dried the paper he had just written on.

“Then why do you eagerly chase after someone who gives you the cold shoulder?” Hu Tiandong muttered, dissatisfied.

Hu Yihai shook his head and walked to the window, “You really are too inexperienced, only looking at the excitement from the outside, not seeing the skill from within. I was there when she treated Butcher Wang, the methods she used were unheard of and unseen before, and her everyday prescriptions are also incredibly valuable. Even if she’s not yet worthy of the name of Divine Doctor, give her time, and her medical prowess is bound to be known across the world!”

“With such fantastic medical skills and the medical ethics to bring benefits to the world, and as a person unique in her own way, it’s only a matter of time before her name skyrockets. All my life I’ve strived hard, it’s difficult to make further progress in the medical path, but Lady Changsheng has given me hope. What about the name of Imperial Physician; would they dare to explore a body with their bare hands?”

“Foolish child, if you too wish to accomplish something, you would do well to let go of your prejudices against her. This woman is surely not a common person, she will transform into a dragon with the right opportunity!”

Hu Tiandong looked into his father’s spirited eyes, and he fell into deep thought…

Meanwhile, having settled in nicely, Gu Changsheng looked around the courtyard contentedly. The courtyard was located in Mountain-Foot Village at the base of Baili Mountain, with the house at the western edge of the village, surrounded by common households that made a living by hunting. The owner of the courtyard was about to move into the city with his son, which is why the courtyard was empty to be rented out.

The courtyard was of moderate size, with eight rooms front and back, left and right, and a spacious patio in the middle. Coming out of the house and turning past two households, there was a well, making access to water convenient, and in front of the house, there was a small river winding down from Baili Mountain, which made washing clothes quite convenient as well.

Satisfied, Gu Changsheng sat comfortably in the wicker chair arranged on the edge of the patio and took a deep breath. No wonder the wealthy from the city built manors at the foot of Baili Mountain; the air here was indeed much better, and it was also much cooler than in the city, truly a good place to escape the summer heat.

Just as she looked up, she saw a head peeking in and out at the doorway. Gu Changsheng was startled and got up to greet the visitor.

“You must be Old Liu’s new tenant, right? You sure look delicate and pretty,” the woman said as she saw Gu Changsheng approaching, knowing from her clothes that they were very expensive, and involuntarily stepped back behind the wall.

“Sister-in-law, don’t be so formal, we’re neighbors now,” Gu Changsheng greeted with a friendly smile.
