I Married the President

Chapter 540: Chapter 540: Grandpa, I Thought I’d Never See You Again

Ethan sat in her room for a long time, only leaving after he heard the sound of her steady breathing.

Back in his own bedroom, he stepped into the bathroom, turned on the tap, and let the cold water drench him, clothes and all.

’I need to calm down and think about what to do with this simple girl in the future. Especially after I get married. I can’t possibly keep her in my own home. My wife would never agree to that.’

’Wait, I have that house in The West Garden. I bought it years ago but never moved in. Maybe I could have her live there?’

’That’s the only way.’

Ethan had settled one matter, but there was something else he couldn’t get off his mind.

What happened between them in bed...

She wasn’t like the other women he’d been with. None of them had left him dwelling on the feeling like this. Only she.

’Damn it!’

’Just thinking about it made him lose control, made him want to continue what they’d started.’

Ethan furrowed his brow and slammed his fist against the wall. ’Her mental age is that of an eight-year-old. What the hell am I thinking?!’

「The next day, at the hospital.」

In the hospital room, Old Master Quincy lay on the bed, looking as though he was on his last breath. He wore an oxygen mask, and his breathing was incredibly faint.

He appeared to be asleep, but when the door to the ward opened, he opened his eyes. He slowly turned his head to look toward the doorway.

A woman in a wheelchair pushed her way into the room. As soon as Old Master Quincy saw her face clearly, his breathing suddenly grew labored, and his eyes widened.

”Yara...” the old man rasped, his voice incredibly hoarse.

Yara Quincy’s expression faltered, and she cried out emotionally, ”Grandpa, I thought I’d never see you again!”

Hearing her cry, Old Master Quincy felt his heart break. ”Yara, why are you in a wheelchair? Are you unwell? Did someone hurt you?”

Thinking of her own miserable fate and her grandfather’s concern for her, Yara cried with even more self-pity, her voice catching as she began her tearful accusation:

”Grandpa, it was Brother! He married Quinn’s twin sister, Claire Sinclair, to deceive you! Quinn died three years ago. That vicious woman, Claire, latched onto Brother. My parents and I were completely against it, but she’s a master manipulator. She has Brother so utterly bewitched that he... he had my left leg amputated, and then he let her convince him to throw me in prison.

I’ve been locked up for half a year. If I hadn’t suddenly come down with gastritis, I wouldn’t have been able to get out to see you one last time. Grandpa, you have to stand up for me!”

After listening to her tearful story, Old Master Quincy’s breathing seemed to grow heavy again. He didn’t show any anger, however. In fact, his tone carried a hint of skepticism. ”Yara, your brother doesn’t seem like the type to do something so foolish.”

Yara retorted, ”Grandpa, you don’t know what kind of person that Claire Sinclair is! The moment her ex-boyfriend was arrested for rape, she turned around and married Brother! And she’s completely useless, as helpless as a kitten. All she knows how to do is seduce men. She’s good for nothing else.

Think about it! A woman whose ex-boyfriend is a rapist—could someone like that possibly be ’clean’? Who knows how many men she’s been with? Brother has no experience with women, that’s the only reason he’s so head over heels for her type. He’s so smitten that even after I lost my leg, he still threw me in prison for ten years!” She started sobbing again.

Old Master Quincy frowned. ”Why would your brother lock you up for ten years?”

”It was all because I accidentally gave Claire Sinclair a little push! Brother flew into a rage and locked me up for attempted murder, just like that! Grandpa, you have to believe me. I’ve always been so good. How could I ever try to kill someone?”
