I Married the President

Chapter 529: Chapter 529: Unable to Get Away for Now

That woman’s name was Corinne Linden, the eldest daughter of the governor of Scylla State. She looked as sweet and lovely as her name might suggest, but her personality was anything but.

Corinne Linden was a famous powerhouse in Aridia, known as the nation’s top female lawyer. She had previously worked at the most prestigious law firm in Scylla City but had since transferred to the cabinet to serve as a negotiation officer.

Unlike all of Ethan Kingsley’s previous girlfriends, Corinne Linden had a powerful background and a squeaky-clean past. Known for her integrity, she had an almost spotless reputation.

As for his past girlfriends—with the exception of the unconfirmed Claire Sinclair—they were either socialites and influencers circulating in high society or famous pop divas and award-winning actresses from the entertainment industry.

Corinne Linden could also be considered a socialite, but she was by no means the type of career woman who relied on her family or men to get ahead. Her capabilities were there for all to see. Some people even compared her to Claire Sinclair, saying she was the most likely to become the next Claire Sinclair.

Everyone was curious. How could a woman as proud as Corinne Linden end up with a playboy like Ethan Kingsley?

Just as everyone was wondering, Ethan Kingsley suddenly led Corinne Linden to the center of the hall and grandly announced, ”Everyone, I have an announcement to make. This is my fiancée, Corinne Linden.”

Hearing that one word—fiancée—all the women were stunned.

Everyone except the Tanner Family and the insiders who already knew.

”Young Master Kingsley and Corinne Linden are engaged? That was so sudden!”

”I’m so sad. My man has been stolen away.”

”Ugh, if I’d known, I wouldn’t have come. I wasted two hours getting all dressed up today, and I even bought Young Master Kingsley a three-million-dollar birthday present.”

”Me too! What should we do? Can we get our presents back?”

...

Ivy Tanner hid in an empty corner, munching on an apple as she watched the flamboyantly dressed women in the hall. She silently mourned for them. ’Spending so much money on a birthday present for Ethan Kingsley... they must be out of their minds.’

’Thank god I only bought a hundred-dollar doll. Too bad I left it at the Kingsley estate and forgot to bring it.’

Ivy Tanner sighed helplessly and forced herself to look away from the picture-perfect engaged couple. Her eyes scanned the room. ’Where is Claire Sinclair?’

Just then, Ethan Kingsley’s phone suddenly rang.

Ethan Kingsley let go of Corinne Linden’s hand and pulled out his phone. A glance at the caller ID showed Claire Sinclair’s name.

He answered immediately. ”Star Reporter Sinclair, don’t tell me you’re suddenly backing out.”

Claire Sinclair said apologetically, ”You guessed right. I was in a car accident over here and I’m waiting for the traffic police to handle it. I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it. Can you hand the phone to Third Miss Tanner? I want to apologize to her personally.”

”A car accident?” Ethan Kingsley’s brow furrowed. ”Are you okay?”

”I’m fine. Someone else hit my car. Their driver and my driver were both injured, so I can’t get away for the moment.”

Ethan Kingsley finally breathed a sigh of relief. ”That’s good. Otherwise, it would’ve been all my fault.”

With that, he walked over to Ivy Tanner, who was oblivious to the world around her, and handed her the phone. ”Little Cutie, Sinclair’s looking for you.”

Ivy Tanner immediately snatched the phone. ”Sinclair!”

”Ivy, something’s come up and I can’t make it. You have to protect yourself. Don’t just drink anything, and be careful what you eat. If someone drugs the food, you’ll be in a terrible situation.”

”Mhm, I know. Thanks, Sinclair!”

”Don’t leave Ethan Kingsley’s sight, and don’t go off to any empty places by yourself.”
