I Married the President

Chapter 502: Chapter 502: What a Coincidence, I’m Also Claire Sinclair’s Backer

These netizens listed three ”cardinal sins” for Claire Sinclair:

Sin #1: Anyone who offends Claire Sinclair meets a terrible end. Who would believe she doesn’t have powerful backing?

Sin #2: Claire Sinclair previously received tons of lavish gifts and it was a non-issue, so why is Cecily Taylor called a gold-digger for receiving so many gifts?

Sin #3: Claire Sinclair ruined Cecily Taylor’s birthday party but never apologized. Is a reporter like that really qualified to be an ethics mentor to others?

The internet is a place of free speech. Once someone starts stirring the pot, most netizens, without a second thought, will join the hate bandwagon and ask questions later.

Claire Sinclair was once again pushed into the eye of the storm, with waves of criticism crashing down on her.

Faced with this public pressure, Claire Sinclair wasn’t particularly bothered. She just found the ”sins” netizens had accused her of to be utterly absurd.

She hadn’t planned on responding, but the ”backing” she had couldn’t sit still any longer.

The Astoria Daily’s official social media account posted a message of support: ”Excuse me, I’m Claire Sinclair’s backing.”

At the same time, Quincy Manor also posted in support: ”What a coincidence, I am also Young Madam @Reporter Claire Sinclair’s backing.”

Mimi Fisher also posted her support: ”What a coincidence, I’m Claire Sinclair’s backing too.”

Master: ”What a coincidence, I’m her backing as well!”

The celebrity effect is a peculiar thing. With an official organization and a popular idol both posting their support, netizens immediately began to follow their lead.

Thus, a new topic trended on Weibo: #WhatACoincidenceImAlsoClaireSinclairsBacking

This hashtag single-handedly suppressed the baffling ”three cardinal sins” she had been accused of.

Seeing so many people supporting her, Claire Sinclair felt a surge of gratitude. To thank them, she decided to drop a bombshell.

She wrote on Weibo:

”On the day of Professor Taylor’s birthday party, someone slipped an aphrodisiac into my drink. I was fortunate enough not to drink it, but Professor Fisher and Mr. Mason were unfortunately drugged. Quincy Manor investigated the matter afterward, and the truth is that the person who drugged the drinks was Professor Taylor’s new assistant, Lawson. He has since been arrested.

This also reminded me of another incident. Last month, when I had dinner with the three mentors and the production team, Professor Taylor’s former assistant, Peach, also tried to drug my drink. Fortunately, my bodyguard discovered it in time, and I was spared. In light of these two incidents, I think Professor Taylor owes me a reasonable explanation, don’t you think?”

Now that Star Reporter Sinclair had spoken out, the matter was no longer so simple.

The netizens who had accused Claire Sinclair of her ”three cardinal sins” were all left red-faced. It turned out the victim had never been Cecily Taylor, but the long-suffering and silent Star Reporter Sinclair.

Cecily Taylor gripped her phone, her eyes locked on Claire Sinclair’s latest post. Two of her assistants in a row had been taken down by Claire. How could she possibly stomach this humiliation?

What was infuriating was that for the sake of her own career, she still had to obediently issue an apology.

Cecily Taylor posted a groveling apology on Weibo: ”Professor Sinclair, I am terribly sorry about these two incidents. I was completely unaware of what my two assistants did, and I have no idea why they would do such things. Having achieved what I have today, I cherish my reputation. Why would I ever do something so shameless? Please be the bigger person and forgive me. I will be much, much more cautious when hiring assistants in the future.”

After reading the insincere apology, Claire Sinclair magnanimously replied on Weibo with two words: ”Ha. Ha.”

She left Cecily to interpret that as she would.

In any case, her feud with Cecily Taylor was over for the time being.

Claire couldn’t be bothered with whatever trouble Cecily Taylor might stir up later, as long as she didn’t cross her line.
