I Married the President

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Do I Look Like I Need Your Money?

”Miss Sinclair, Young Master Quincy has asked you to shower and change. You can put your dirty clothes in this bag to take with you. Please be sure to take them. Young Master Quincy is a neat freak and doesn’t like dirty things in his room.”

After she spoke, the woman’s gaze fell upon the messy sheets, and her brow furrowed.

’This woman actually messed up Young Master Quincy’s bed like this. No wonder he uncharacteristically let me into his bedroom to clean up.’

”Thank you!” Claire Sinclair grabbed the clothes, hurried into the bathroom, and shut the door behind her.

She didn’t dare take too long in someone else’s room. After a quick wash, she hastily dried herself off and got dressed.

The bag contained a casual outfit and a set of disposable underwear. Claire Sinclair threw on the clothes in a flash, stuffed her own dirty garments into the bag, and hurried out of the bathroom.

When she returned to the bedroom, she found the bed had already been remade with fresh, neatly folded sheets.

The thought of having wet the bed in a stranger’s house made Claire Sinclair’s face flush. Not daring to linger any longer, she rushed out.

The woman from before was waiting at the door. Seeing her come out, she immediately said, ”Young Master Quincy is waiting for you in his office. Please follow me.”

Claire Sinclair silently followed her downstairs, her head bowed in embarrassment, not daring to speak a word.

The woman led her to the door of his office and then excused herself.

Claire Sinclair stood at the door for a moment, stealing a glance at the man engrossed in his work. She hesitated, wondering if she should approach him or just speak from the doorway.

Without looking up, Adrian Quincy suddenly spoke. ”If there’s nothing else, I’ll have someone take you home.”

”I do! I do have something!”

Claire Sinclair walked over, not daring to sit down. She stood before him and said, ”Um, I’m sorry for messing up your bed. And thank you for the clothes. How much were they? I’ll pay you back.”

Adrian Quincy looked up at her, his cold, aloof eyes flashing with displeasure. ”Do I look like I need your money?”

”No...”

”Since you’re married to me, you need to cut ties with men you shouldn’t be involved with. Remember who you are now, and don’t embarrass me.”

He was alluding to Logan Linden.

’What the hell? He didn’t even bother to ask what happened and just jumps to conclusions like that. Who the fuck wants to embarrass him!’

Claire Sinclair snapped, ”What I do with him is none of your business! And another thing, you and I are only in a sham marriage. This entire arrangement has been invalid from the very beginning!”

”I highly doubt our current marriage laws have the kind of loophole you’re describing,” the man countered, deadpan.

Claire Sinclair rolled her eyes at him. ’We’re clearly not on the same wavelength.’ She couldn’t be bothered to argue over something so pointless.

”When are you free? I want a divorce.”

”Not today.”

”What about tomorrow?”

”Busy.”

”The day after tomorrow!”

Adrian Quincy decided this was a waste of time and cut the pointless conversation short. ”I will contact you when I’m available. I have to work now. You may leave.”

But Claire Sinclair wasn’t having any of it. ”You’re a liar!” she exclaimed, her voice rising with agitation. ”How long are you going to keep stringing me along? Was I born just for you rotten men to deceive?”

Her heart had been broken by a scumbag and her dignity trampled. All her pent-up frustration had nowhere to go. Now, with this latest injustice, she finally lost control and unleashed it all on the man before her.

Her voice was so loud that it could be heard outside, even with the door closed.

Adrian Quincy’s stern, handsome face darkened. ”Go on, be a little louder. If the bodyguards outside think something’s wrong, they’re authorized to shoot first and ask questions later.”

The implication was clear: You don’t raise your voice here.
