Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1732: Chapter 1731: A Well-Laid Scheme

”Ah?”

Bai Xiaoxiao blinked blankly.

Gu Kai smiled meaningfully, ”Just now, I was bored watching the surveillance footage and happened to see Xu Wanqi spill the soup on her own hand.”

”So she did it intentionally.”

Bai Xiaoxiao frowned. Her voice was light yet carried with it a sense of understanding.

She had suspected earlier that Xu Wanqi had deliberately burned herself.

Otherwise, how could it have been such a coincidence that Meng Ke just left for one afternoon, and she got burned?

”Did she also bribe that nursing assistant?”

Although Bai Xiaoxiao’s words sounded like a question, she didn’t really need Gu Kai to answer.

Gu Kai honestly nodded, ”Yes.”

”Actually, Xu Wanqi isn’t the main issue. The issue is Meng Ke.” Gu Kai’s words were unclear whether they were meant to comfort or to add salt to the wound. ”Just like with Cheng Jia back then.”

Bai Xiaoxiao smiled indifferently.

The thought that had been in her subconscious was slowly becoming clearer.

The hands she had placed in front of her unconsciously clasped together.

”Back then, Cheng Jia was madly in love with Mo Xiuchen, willing to do anything to have him, but Mo Xiuchen remained resolute. Even when Cheng Jia ’saved’ him for the second time, and he stayed at Kangning Hospital, he had a special nursing assistant take care of her and never did so himself.”

Gu Kai seemed determined to persuade Bai Xiaoxiao to break up with Meng Ke once and for all.

”...”

”But Meng Ke is different. During the days you were on a business trip, Meng Ke stayed with her at the hospital. Let me put it bluntly; he even assisted Xu Wanqi to the restroom.”

”...”

Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t know how to respond to what Gu Kai said.

She could only remain silent.

She knew that Gu Kai was stating the facts.

One does not know good from bad without comparison.

Once compared, she had to admit that Meng Ke was indeed different from Mo Xiuchen at that time.

”Haofeng called me this afternoon.”

Gu Kai’s sudden change in topic left Bai Xiaoxiao momentarily confused.

She blinked blankly, gazing at Gu Kai’s handsome profile as he curved his lips into a smile and continued, ”Haofeng told me some news, and I wonder if you’re aware of it.”

”...What?”

Bai Xiaoxiao asked hesitantly.

She thought of those moments spent with Luo Haofeng in City B and the words he had said to her...

Her heart skipped a beat for a moment.

Gu Kai turned his gaze, giving her a probing look as he saw her bewildered expression.

He smiled gently, ”Haofeng said that he and Tian Ruoyi aren’t really in a relationship.”

”...”

Bai Xiaoxiao widened her eyes, staring at Gu Kai.

From bewilderment to astonishment, then to disbelief.

”Xiaoxiao, it seems that I don’t need to say more. You already know why Haofeng is pretending to date Tian Ruoyi.”

Gu Kai’s voice remained gentle, with a barely noticeable tone of reluctance.

Luo Haofeng had told him that he wanted to try once more.

But Bai Xiaoxiao had refused Luo Haofeng.

Gu Kai didn’t know whether letting Bai Xiaoxiao know all this was good or bad.

These days, seeing how Meng Ke took care of Xu Wanqi, Gu Kai felt that Meng Ke was undeserving of Xiaoxiao.

No matter how righteously Meng Ke claimed he was repaying Xu Wanqi, to outsiders, it was evident that he was enjoying Xu Wanqi’s admiration for him.

Because the one he loved didn’t love him, he took pleasure in another woman’s adoration.

”Yiyi, the baby is so cute.”

When Bai Xiaoxiao arrived at Gu Kai’s house, Bai Yiyi had just finished nursing.

She took the baby in her arms, cooing at the little one while chatting with Bai Yiyi.

Bai Yiyi watched Bai Xiaoxiao holding her son, her eyes filled with gentle maternal love, ”Looks much better compared to when he was just born.”

”Where’s Tongtong? I haven’t seen her.”

”Tongtong is upstairs in her room, painting.”

”Xiaoxiao, why not have dinner here tonight? I’ll call Ranran and see if they want to come over.”

Bai Yiyi said, picking up the phone from the coffee table and dialing Wen Ran’s number.

Meng Residence

Li Shi Yao shared the content of her recent call with Bai Xiaoxiao with Madam Meng and her mother.

After a brief discussion, Madam Meng became furious on the spot.

Li Shi Yao’s mother also lamented in disappointment, ”Sister, could it be that Meng Ke has truly been enchanted by that little wench Xu Wanqi? How can he leave Bai Xiaoxiao aside and go make dumplings for Xu Wanqi?”

”Exactly, Auntie, no matter how you look at it—family background, or appearance—Sister Xiaoxiao is leagues above Xu Wanqi. How could my cousin be so blind?”

Madam Meng snorted coldly, ”Let’s head to the hospital now and see what that little shameless woman is up to.”

”Sister, do you think Meng Ke might actually like Xu Wanqi too? Otherwise, why wouldn’t he listen to a word we’ve said?”

Upon hearing this, Madam Meng hesitated.

”Even if he likes Xu Wanqi, he shouldn’t neglect Bai Xiaoxiao. Meng Ke definitely doesn’t like Xu Wanqi as much as Xiaoxiao; he’s just sentimental since Xu Wanqi saved him.”

”But what if Xu Wanqi insists on offering herself? Sister, would you agree to that?”

”Offer herself?”

Madam Meng chuckled coldly, a glint of coldness in her eyes, ”If she’s willing to be an out-of-sight mistress forever, I might consider it.”

”Auntie, you won’t really support my cousin having a mistress, right?”

Li Shi Yao exclaimed and quickly covered her mouth with her hand.

Madam Meng glanced at her, ”What man isn’t capricious? Especially someone as outstanding as your cousin. I don’t like Xu Wanqi, but I can’t deny her devotion to your cousin.”

”Then what about Sister Xiaoxiao?”

Li Shi Yao was incredulous.

How could her aunt think like this, encouraging her cousin to have a mistress?

”You must not speak of this to anyone.” Madam Meng’s face turned stern as she said seriously, ”Bai Xiaoxiao has been reluctant to marry your cousin; he can’t wait endlessly.”

Her son was a normal man with normal needs.

Let Bai Xiaoxiao delay for a few more years, and wouldn’t that be too much for her son?

”Oh, Auntie, there’s one more thing I forgot to tell you.”

”What’s that?”

Madam Meng and Mother Li both looked at Li Shi Yao.

”Earlier this afternoon, Sister Xiaoxiao called and told me she found a box of Durex in my cousin’s car and asked if I left it there.”

”Is that true?”

Madam Meng showed a surprised look.

Mother Li’s eyes shifted back and forth, ”Could it be that Meng Ke and Xu Wanqi have already... and that’s why he’s taking such good care of her?”

”If that’s really the case, I have all the more reason to see Xu Wanqi. Even if they did have a relationship, it can’t ruin Meng Ke and Bai Xiaoxiao’s marriage.”

Madam Meng said thoughtfully.

Li Shi Yao didn’t dare to say more.

She found her mother and aunt’s thinking to be something she couldn’t accept.

”Let’s go to the hospital to see Xu Wanqi now. If Meng Ke is really making dumplings for her, he won’t finish quickly.”

For her son’s happiness, Madam Meng decided to head to the hospital immediately.
