Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1730: Chapter 1729: Orchestrating Her Own Drama

Bai Xiaoxiao stared at him for a few seconds, then lowered her gaze briefly. When she looked up at Meng Ke again, her expression was slightly cold.

”Xiaoxiao.”

Meng Ke called her softly.

Bai Xiaoxiao ignored him, as Li Shi Yao’s cheerful voice came from the phone.

”Sister Xiaoxiao, are you back from your business trip?”

”Yes, I came back this morning.”

Bai Xiaoxiao gently pressed the speaker button.

”Sister Xiaoxiao, if you don’t come back soon, my cousin will be snatched away by a vixen.”

Beside her, Meng Ke heard Li Shi Yao’s unfiltered words and his face instantly darkened.

Bai Xiaoxiao chuckled twice, ”Shi Yao, if you keep saying that, your cousin is going to get angry.”

”Ah!”

On the other end of the phone, Li Shi Yao’s voice suddenly changed.

She probably covered her mouth with her hand, ”Sister Xiaoxiao, did my cousin hear me?”

”Yes.”

Bai Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but laugh.

”Even if he knows, I’m not afraid. I’m stating the facts. Sister Xiaoxiao, do you know how excessive that woman Xu Wanqi is? She didn’t want a nurse; she insisted my cousin take care of her at the hospital.”

Bai Xiaoxiao thought Li Shi Yao was somewhat unwise to say these things to her.

”Shi Yao, let me ask you something.”

Seeing Meng Ke’s expression getting gloomier, Bai Xiaoxiao interrupted Li Shi Yao, stopping her from continuing.

”Sister Xiaoxiao, what is it?”

”I just saw a box of Durex in your cousin’s car. You didn’t put it there, did you?”

”Sister Xiaoxiao, how is that possible? You say there’s Durex in my cousin’s car? Could it be that my cousin bought it himself?”

At the end, Li Shi Yao laughed mischievously at the other end of the phone.

After hanging up, Bai Xiaoxiao looked at Meng Ke.

Switching the topic back to his earlier question, ”I asked Ranran at the hospital just now, she said that although Xu Wanqi almost burned her, since Mo Xiuchen agreed to let you handle it, he wouldn’t retaliate against Xu Wanqi.”

”...”

Meng Ke opened his mouth but said nothing.

On this issue, he couldn’t speak lightly.

If not careful, he might have a different opinion than Bai Xiaoxiao.

He preferred to believe Xu Wanqi’s suspicion, given Mo Xiuchen’s well-known reputation.

”I don’t know why Xu Wanqi says that Mo Xiuchen is retaliating against her.”

”Xiaoxiao, besides offending Mo Xiuchen, Wanqi hasn’t offended anyone else. Her suspicion is normal.”

”Just because those people targeted her?”

Bai Xiaoxiao frowned and asked with a smile.

Meng Ke glanced at her, speaking warmly, ”If it wasn’t orchestrated by someone, they wouldn’t have known we were there.”

”Maybe it’s all just a performance by Xu Wanqi herself?”

Bai Xiaoxiao, being straightforward and outspoken, had this thought at the hospital.

Now, with Meng Ke defending Xu Wanqi, feeling annoyed, she directly said it.

”Xiaoxiao, Wanqi isn’t that kind of person.”

”Whatever, once Lu Zhiyan investigates it, the truth will come to light.”

Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t want to argue with Meng Ke.

Previously, she hadn’t felt that Meng Ke would defend Xu Wanqi so much.

After Xu Wanqi offended her last time, Meng Ke wanted to fire Xu Wanqi. It’s been so short a time, and he’s already defending Xu Wanqi.

On closer thought, perhaps it was Xu Wanqi getting hurt a second time for Meng Ke, which reminded him of the first time, deepening his guilt towards Xu Wanqi.

”Xiaoxiao, I won’t go to the hospital to take care of Wanqi anymore. The days spent caring for her have repaid her favor.”

When dropping Bai Xiaoxiao off at the company, Meng Ke seriously told Bai Xiaoxiao.

Bai Xiaoxiao just smiled faintly, without saying anything.

”I’ll come to pick you up after work, and we’ll have dinner together.”

”Okay.”

***

After work in the afternoon, Bai Xiaoxiao walked out of the company and saw Meng Ke waiting by the roadside.

”Xiaoxiao, this afternoon, Yao Yao spilled the beans about your return from the business trip to my mom, and my mom called, insisting I invite you to our house for dinner.”

The car was on the road when Meng Ke’s phone suddenly rang.

He put on a Bluetooth headset to answer the call.

Not knowing who was calling, Bai Xiaoxiao just saw Meng Ke’s expression change, ”What’s going on? Explain it clearly.”

She glanced at him, then turned to look out the car window.

Not deliberately eavesdropping, but sharing a car meant she heard Meng Ke’s voice, ”I’ll be there shortly.”

”Xiaoxiao.”

After finishing the call, Meng Ke called Bai Xiaoxiao rather awkwardly.

Bai Xiaoxiao turned her head to look at him, ”Did something happen?”

”The nurse taking care of Wanqi just called, saying Wanqi got her hand burned by soup.”

Meng Ke paused here.

Bai Xiaoxiao pursed her lips but didn’t say anything.

Waiting for him to continue.

”Xiaoxiao, I need to go to the hospital. Do you want to come with me, or should I take you home first? Yao Yao’s classes are fewer this afternoon; she’s already at home.”

”I’ll go to the hospital with you.”

Bai Xiaoxiao hesitated for two seconds before making a decision.

Xu Wanqi really knew how to create trouble.

Meng Ke had only left the hospital for an afternoon, and she managed to burn her hand.

Thinking of this, Bai Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but inwardly scoff.

Meng Ke’s eyes showed a trace of apology, ”Xiaoxiao, Wanqi’s injured right arm got bumped into the wound that day, so she couldn’t hold the bowl.”

”No need to explain.”

Bai Xiaoxiao calmly interrupted Meng Ke.

She wasn’t trying to suggest Xu Wanqi was in love with him at the hospital earlier.

Rather, she wanted to say, ”Let’s break up.”

Why did she have such thoughts at that time, Bai Xiaoxiao herself didn’t know.

As those words were about to slip out, she suddenly became clear-headed.

Then, she changed her mind.

Upon hearing that Xu Wanqi was wounded twice for Meng Ke, Bai Xiaoxiao at one moment wanted to let Xu Wanqi have him.

Just like she said, she believed she couldn’t achieve what Xu Wanqi did.

Maybe Meng Ke would be happier with Xu Wanqi than with her.

Meng Ke turned at the intersection, heading for Kangning Hospital.

When they reached the hospital, Bai Xiaoxiao deliberately slowed her pace, saying to Meng Ke, ”You go up first. I need to use the restroom; I’ll be there soon.”

”Alright.”

Meng Ke replied warmly and took the elevator upstairs.

Bai Xiaoxiao took out her phone to check her messages, leisurely waiting for the other elevator.

This time, she was alone.

Standing in the elevator by herself, Bai Xiaoxiao inexplicably recalled Luo Haofeng’s words to her that day, ”Xiaoxiao, break up with Meng Ke.”

She closed her eyes instinctively, trying to shake off the sound echoing in her ears.

”Xiaoxiao, give me some time. I’ll surely persuade my mom to accept us being together.”

The more she didn’t want to remember his words, the harder it was to shake off.

Luo Haofeng’s words seemed like a curse that echoed in her ears over the past days.

Leaving the elevator, Bai Xiaoxiao quietly told herself not to let her thoughts run wild and strode towards Xu Wanqi’s ward.

Before reaching the ward, she already heard Xu Wanqi’s voice emanating from it, ”Senior, I feel so useless; I can’t even hold a bowl of soup...”
