Chapter 3004: Chapter 3005: A Mother’s Worries

In the guest room, Bai Ruozhu was pacing back and forth.

”Achun, do you think the Zhong Family will have a solution?” she couldn’t help but ask.

This was actually the third time she had asked since entering the room. Jiang Yichun knew she was anxious and didn’t remind her, still responding, ”There will be a way.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Yes, but it’s been so long, right? I don’t even know how much longer the Spiritual Liquid will last.”

Jiang Yichun pressed her shoulder, lowering his voice slightly, ”The Zhong Family has secrets. There will be a way, but I don’t know if they will give it their all. Calm down first, we need to discuss this properly.”

Bai Ruozhu took a deep breath, calming herself down a bit.

Achun was calm in the face of trouble, and having him to rely on indeed put her more at ease.

”There is clearly trouble within the Zhong Family, which is why Ao Song was almost poisoned. This might be related to him taking over as the Patriarch.” Jiang Yichun slowly analyzed.

His voice was low yet very pleasant, the pace was neither fast nor slow, like a trickling stream passing through her heart, settling her mind gradually.

”Nine times out of ten, it’s like this. The Zhong Family has many strange rules and traditions; it’s definitely not simple. Just like how they can only have one child. It’s not like family planning; who can ensure having just one? And there’s also that ’it’ from Ao Song’s words.” Bai Ruozhu slowly spoke.

Jiang Yichun’s gaze became more serious, ”Although I’m very curious, we can’t investigate the Zhong Family. Their prohibitions are so harsh even on their own people. If we touch upon their secrets, I’m afraid...”

He paused his voice, ”With the elderly and children around, we have to be cautious.”

”Yes, we can trust Ao Song, but that doesn’t mean the Zhong Family is reliable, and now there’s already trouble in the Zhong Family,” Bai Ruozhu said.

As they were talking, running footsteps were heard outside, followed by Ao Song running in, panting.

”Sister Ruozhu, there’s a solution. Tonight, I’ll marry the Astrologer.” she said urgently.

”Marry?” Bai Ruozhu was shocked. Considering the Astrologer’s condition, how can they hold a wedding?

Ao Song glanced at Jiang Yichun beside her, ”I’ll talk to you alone; you’re practically half a member of the Zhong Family.”

”Let’s go for a walk, Achun, you can check on the kids.” Bai Ruozhu subtly gave Jiang Yichun a meaningful look.

”Alright.”

Bai Ruozhu and Ao Song left, but didn’t go far, just talked while walking in the Zhong Family’s garden.

”We have to get married for him to become a member of the Zhong Family and use the secret techniques to save him, or else the family won’t agree.” Ao Song’s face heated up slightly, adding some color to her otherwise pale complexion.

”Using the Zhong Family’s secret technique, will the Astrologer be safe?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Ao Song didn’t speak, her bright eyes dimmed, and after a while, she said, ”It may work, or it may not, but it’s the only way.”

Bai Ruozhu fell silent. If the Astrologer couldn’t wake up, wouldn’t Ao Song become a widow?

As far as she knew, Zhong Family members could only marry once in their lifetime and have only one child, so what would Ao Song do in the future?

She cared for Ao Song, but since this was the only way to save the Astrologer, she couldn’t persuade Ao Song to think carefully, and she didn’t know what to do for a moment.

”Sister Ruozhu, I don’t even know if I like him; I just feel he can’t die. Whatever it takes, I can’t let him die.”

Her voice choked a bit, ”My family wants me to become the Patriarch and suggested finding a girl from a side branch to marry him, making him one of the Zhong Family. But...”

She smiled bitterly, ”I refused. I think the Astrologer wouldn’t want that. He ended up like this saving me, so what right do I have to make such a decision when he’s unconscious?”

Indeed, the Astrologer risked his life to save her; why would he want to marry another woman?

”I don’t want to get another person involved. Even a side branch is my relative; why bring harm to another girl?” Ao Song added.

”Will you regret this in the future?” Bai Ruozhu suddenly asked.

Ao Song shook her head, ”I don’t know; life is so long. I don’t know about the future and don’t want to think so far. I just want to get through the current hardship and bring him back.”

She was tearful as she spoke. Bai Ruozhu couldn’t bear it, embraced her and gently patted her back, ”Don’t worry, everything will get better.”

The conversation ended, and they returned to the room. Ao Song continued to watch over the Astrologer, while Bai Ruozhu briefly explained the situation to Jiang Yichun.

The Zhong Family’s servants started decorating the Residence, hanging red silk everywhere, but there was little joy visible on their faces.

Bai Ruozhu felt like she was in another world; just a few days ago, the relationship was uncertain, and now they were getting married so quickly. Yet, as a matchmaker, she couldn’t bring herself to be happy.

Both the Astrologer and Ao Song were friends she cared about, and she hoped they could find happiness.

But has Ao Song clarified her feelings? Is it love or gratitude? Is it emotion or thankfulness?

If her heart is still with Sangta, when the Astrologer wakes up to face this situation, he would also feel uncomfortable, right?

These worries were not the end of it. What if they couldn’t save the Astrologer?

She didn’t dare think too much about it; she could only say she would do her best.

”Lord Bai, my lady beckons you.” A maid bowed and said to Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu, lost in thought, hadn’t noticed someone approaching. She nodded her head and followed the maid. When she noticed the maid’s Step Method, she couldn’t help but marvel again — even an ordinary maid in the Zhong Family was extraordinary.

Soon she arrived at Lady Zhong’s Flower Hall, where she saw Lady Zhong with red, puffy eyes.

”Lord Bai, I’m sorry to make you laugh.” She forced a bitter smile and stood up to greet.

Bai Ruozhu, being from the younger generation, greeted her in return, likely guessing what she intended to say.

”You probably know some things about the Zhong Family. I only have Ao Song as my child, and I can’t have any more children. I truly don’t want to see Ao Song unhappy for the rest of her life.” Lady Zhong said, tears flowing again.

Bai Ruozhu understood her feelings, but she was also a relative of the Astrologer, and she couldn’t ignore his safety.

”Lady Zhong, without the Astrologer, you wouldn’t see Ao Song alive now.” She reminded gently.

Lady Zhong was stunned, ”I, I’m not saying not to save him. I just considered finding a side branch girl to marry the Astrologer. Ao Song isn’t an ordinary member of the Zhong Family. If she doesn’t become the Patriarch, I’m afraid others who become the Patriarch won’t tolerate her either.”

”How is she not ordinary?” Bai Ruozhu thought she had caught the key issue. The Zhong Family had troubles — why was Ao Song the one who almost suffered? Why did the Zhong Family want Ao Song to be the Patriarch? It probably wasn’t just due to low population, right?

Lady Zhong’s expression changed slightly, ”You’re considered half a Zhong Family member, and I trust you to keep our secrets. But some things cannot be spoken. We all have prohibitions; you can only see for yourself.”
