Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1949: Chapter 1948: Old Poison Deep in the Bone

Yu Hongxiu was about to visit Lin Ping’er when she heard the news Xie Dun brought back. She hurriedly said to the nurse, ”You stay home with Nannan, better not take her along to annoy others.”

Xie Dun chuckled, ”You should take those two little rascals and complain about how tiring and tough it is for you. Maybe that will lighten their mood.”

Yu Hongxiu rolled her eyes at him, ”No way, taking them along would wear me out.”

Xie Dun laughed heartily, ”Don’t worry, in a couple of years I’ll start their education, and then they’ll understand how to care for their mother.”

”Hope so.” Yu Hongxiu pouted, clearly it was his spoiling the children that was the issue, she doubted he could discipline them.

...

Over at the Bai Family, Little Dengdeng was particularly thrilled and clapped his hands, saying, ”I have another little brother now! I’ll take them to practice martial arts, no one will dare bully us when we go out!”

Bai Zehao laughed so wide his mouth opened, ”Little Dengdeng, the child your grandma just had should be called uncle, just like you call the eldest uncle. You should call him little uncle, not brother.”

Bai Ruozhu brought the child out for everyone to see, and hearing this, couldn’t help but laugh. Little Dengdeng’s little uncle was even younger than him. In the future, it would be hilarious seeing the little uncle trailing behind Little Dengdeng like a little shadow.

”I don’t want to, if he’s younger then he’s a brother or sister, not a little uncle!” Little Dengdeng pouted, and turned his head to see the child being brought out. He immediately rushed over, jumping up to look at the child’s face, exclaiming, ”Brother, brother, I’m your brother Dengdeng!”

The whole family couldn’t help but laugh; Little Dengdeng loved having a younger brother; he was beyond excited every time he saw him. Despite being so young, he had this big brother demeanor, even offering to change his brother’s diapers and clothes.

When Yu Hongxiu went to visit Lin Ping’er, Bai Ruozhu and her mother gathered together with deep feelings.

”Still, daughters are better. Hongxiu, you are lucky.” Lin Ping’er remarked.

Bai Ruozhu’s face turned green, ”Mom, both you and Sister Hongxiu have sons and daughters, can you not taunt me, the only pitiful one here?”

Lin Ping’er gave her a sidelong glance, ”Don’t say that in front of your sister-in-law, she’ll feel uncomfortable.”

Bai Ruozhu gave an awkward laugh. Her sister-in-law had only given birth to daughters. She and her mother were envious, but back then people really favored having sons, so her sister-in-law must have felt some pressure.

Because of her mother’s sudden childbirth, Bai Ruozhu completely forgot about visiting Elder Su until they brought gifts to attend the child’s Three-cleansing Ceremony, reminding her of the matter.

Elder Su only brought two Jiuli Clan members over to congratulate, likely noticing that the Bai Family hadn’t thrown a large feast and felt it inappropriate to bring everyone along.

Bai Ruozhu quickly sized him up. He seemed like an elder in his sixties, probably of the same generation as Jiao Ling’s uncle, mostly white-haired with extremely sharp eyes.

His face was very stern, clearly a very serious person. Bai Ruozhu heard that he was in charge of the Disciplinary Hall in the Jiuli Clan, so she became more serious; speaking with such a solemn elder required more caution.

”Yihong, congratulations.” Elder Su stepped forward, offering the congratulatory gift. Behind him, two middle-aged men also offered their congratulations.

”You’re too kind, Elder Su, this way please, let’s have a few drinks later.” Bai Yihong politely greeted.

Bai Ruozhu stepped forward and gave him a respectful official salute, although she was a woman, having an official title meant she didn’t have to bow like other women.

”Ruozhu greets Elder Su. Of late, Elder Su’s care in our residence is much appreciated, Ruozhu thanks you.”

”No need for formalities.” Elder Su stroked his white beard and looked Bai Ruozhu up and down, ”Quite good inner strength for someone so young.”

”I don’t deserve it, it’s just a bit of luck.” Bai Ruozhu felt a little embarrassed; the inner strength wasn’t from her own training, but since neither her aunt nor uncle mentioned it to Elder Su, she thought it best not to say anything.

Fortunately, Elder Su did not question further, smiling, ”I heard you’re very skilled in medical arts, could you examine me?”

”Alright, Elder Su, this way please.” Bai Ruozhu led him aside and carefully took his pulse.

The two people accompanying Elder Su appeared nervous, and one of the middle-aged men hurriedly asked, ”How is it?”

”Old chronic toxin, it has already penetrated the leg bones.” Bai Ruozhu had a serious expression. In her experience, such severe poisoning would often cripple someone if not kill them outright. How could it spread into the bones yet leave someone looking so healthy?

Clearly, Elder Su was either physically extraordinary or possessed an exceptional willpower.

Elder Su now also showed a look of astonishment. He expected Bai Ruozhu to only discover lingering toxins, but she even realized the poison was in his leg bones.

”Do you have a way to treat it?” the middle-aged man beside him asked excitedly.

”It’s hard to treat,” Bai Ruozhu shook her head, quickly calculating internally whether or not to treat Elder Su. It wasn’t that she was cold-hearted, but the risks were immense.

Furthermore, she wasn’t close to Elder Su, so why should she take such a risk?

Elder Su’s condition couldn’t be cured by medication alone; it could only be alleviated slightly unless combined with Bai Ruozhu’s spatial hot spring. But Elder Su was no ordinary person, who knew what other special abilities he might possess? What if he discovered her space’s secret?

The middle-aged man who had asked seemed disappointed, but the other woman spoke up, ”It is difficult to treat, but surely you can think of a solution?”

”I’ll have to think about it more. We can temporarily use medicine to alleviate some symptoms, but a complete cure is very difficult.” Bai Ruozhu stated.

Elder Su looked gratified, ”Even alleviating some symptoms is enough for me.”

”Then allow me to prepare, and tomorrow I’ll start treating Elder Su.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright, thank you.” Elder Su said, and to everyone’s surprise, he gave a bow. The middle-aged man next to him was almost speechless until the woman elbowed him, hinting not to overreact.

Given the good news, Elder Su and his companions took their seats for the meal. It was evident they were in high spirits and had great faith in Bai Ruozhu, likely due to the credit of her aunt and uncle.

Halfway through the feast, a servant suddenly reported, ”Young lady, outside there is a Miss Ao Song here to congratulate, she says she doesn’t have an invitation card but just mention her name to you.”

Bai Ruozhu showed a look of surprise, Ao Song actually came!

But she quickly glanced around; if she let Ao Song in, would Gao Zhou be upset about it?

She first told the servant to handle other matters, then called Jiang Yichun, who was drinking, aside to discuss Ao Song’s situation.

”My father went out yesterday, I assume to find that master. If you welcome Ao Song, then please invite her in.” Jiang Yichun said, then became wary again, ”But it’s not that I want to see her, if you don’t wish to, just find an excuse to say you’re not home.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a reproachful look and went to greet Ao Song at the main gate herself.
