Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1903: Chapter 1893: Countering Each Move with a Move

”To save a life is more meritorious than building a seven-level pagoda. I heard the Bai Family is holding a full-month banquet for the young masters; they should also accumulate some blessings for the children,” the kind-hearted Zhao Ping shouted, ”You can’t just throw a party for the children and ignore someone’s life or death, right?”

Bai Zehao’s face darkened. He was already annoyed, and upon hearing this man mention the newborn Bengbeng and Tiaotiao, he assumed the man was a servant of Kong Xunwu’s, deliberately trying to stir hatred against the Bai Family, and his heart flared up in anger.

”Hmph, my two nephews are having a full-month banquet, which is supposed to be a joyous occasion. Kong Xunwu chose this moment to throw himself into the river; who is he trying to scare?” Bai Zehao said unceremoniously, ”Moreover, Miss Jiang of the Jiang Family has long divorced him, severing all ties; what is he doing by persistently pestering like this?”

Zhao Ping was taken aback and turned to Kong Xunwu’s servant, asking, ”Divorced?”

Kong Xunwu’s servant stammered, unwilling to answer, only saying, ”I don’t know, I just know someone needs to save our master, right?”

Bai Zehao was about to get angry again when Wan Caiyue came out from inside, pulled his arm, and stopped him from speaking.

Wan Caiyue calmly asked Zhao Ping, ”Are you a servant of the Kong Family?”

Zhao Ping quickly said, ”No, I’m just a porter. I saw someone fall into the water and saved them, then helped bring them over here.”

Wan Caiyue nodded, seeing Zhao Ping still wet and covered in some mud, she didn’t hold much ill will toward him.

There was no river in Beiyu City, so if Kong Xunwu hadn’t chosen an artificial lake of some family to drown himself, there was only the moat outside the city.

Many large cities at the time had moats dug out, but many weren’t flowing water, becoming stinky in the summer. To rescue someone under such circumstances, he must be kind-hearted.

It’s a pity this kind-hearted person had been deceived, mistaking reality.

”It seems you have a kind heart, but there are two sides to every story. You shouldn’t just listen to the words of a servant from the Kong Family,” Wan Caiyue said sternly, ”Besides, though my aunt is a chief doctor, she just finished her confinement and gave birth to twins, exhausting her energy. She’s truly not in a condition to diagnose patients now. Diagnosing illness isn’t something to be forced; what if it delays saving someone?”

She continued, ”I imagine you’ve passed quite a few clinics on your way here. If you’re in a hurry to save someone, why not rush to a clinic? Fushou Hall has a great reputation in Beiyu City; you can seek medical help there.”

Kong Xunwu’s servant, Kong Ji, was a bit anxious and shouted at Wan Caiyue, ”You just don’t want to save my master. After confinement, one can get up; how come they can’t save someone?”

This time Bai Zehao spoke up, thinking his wife had spoken well. He shouldn’t crash headlong against the other party; otherwise, wouldn’t he fall into that trash Kong Xunwu’s trap?

”My sister is skilled in acupuncture, but her postpartum energy hasn’t recovered yet. Her hand will shake from unstable Qi during needling; wouldn’t this harm someone if a mistake is made? Isn’t the Kong Family making things too difficult? Go ask around, if doctors aren’t feeling well, most won’t take on patients. It’s a responsible attitude towards patients, so how come it turns into ignoring the dying from your mouth?”

Many onlookers nodded, acknowledging such rules do exist. Bringing someone for treatment when they can’t be treated properly isn’t right either, discussing like they did about the Bai Family ignoring the dying was indeed somewhat impolite.

Zhao Ping frowned, looking at Kong Ji, ”What they said makes sense. Let me help you take the person to Fushou Hall, we shouldn’t have taken this detour earlier.”

”Since you’ve passed by our Bai Family, we shouldn’t stand idly by. Let some of our servants help you carry them over, and if the diagnosis fee isn’t enough, we’ll help you cover it first,” Wan Caiyue said amiably.

The onlookers praised the Bai Family’s kindness, and that Kong Family servant was clearly somewhat aggressive. Seeing the Bai Family still willing to help even cover the diagnosis fee, was already exceedingly generous.

”Why are you still standing there, little servant, do you not want to save your master?” Bai Zehao asked.

Kong Ji was a bit hesitant; his master didn’t instruct him that way, so what should he do?

Zhao Ping didn’t care for him anymore, and with the Bai Family’s servant, lifted Kong Xunwu, heading toward Fushou Hall.

Many praised the kind-hearted Bai Family, congratulated them, and gradually dispersed.

Wan Caiyue smiled at Bai Zehao, saying, ”How did I perform just now? I learned from Ruozhu; she said in encountering things, one should first remain calm and not lose one’s poise.”

Bai Zehao chuckled awkwardly, scratching his head, ”It’s still you who has the brains, otherwise I really would’ve ended up quarrelling with them just now; it wouldn’t be worth it to stir up a mess.”

”Alright, let’s go back and continue the feast,” Wan Caiyue linked his arm, walking together to the main courtyard.

Soon the matter was reported from Jianqi’s side to Bai Ruozhu, whose face slowly showed a smile as she listened, saying, ”Elder brother and sister-in-law did very well; that Kong name can’t stir up any storm.”

”I found out that he went to seek refuge with an old superior, directly got rejected, and also visited some old friends, but unfortunately, those people either avoided him or said they couldn’t help even when meeting him; he probably feels he can’t survive now, so he used this decoy strategy,” Jianqi said.

Bai Ruozhu snorted lightly, ”Pity the moat wasn’t deep enough; why didn’t it really drown him?”

”Perhaps he knows how to swim,” Jianqi replied.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”Might really be the case; women have the trope of crying, fussing, hanging themselves thrice, he can’t resort to hanging, so he could only think of this trick.”

At this time, Jiang Zhihe came over to greet, ”Ruozhu, are you busy?”

Bai Ruozhu asked Jianqi to step away; she felt this matter should be discussed with the Jiang Family members, so they’re prepared mentally, knowing that Kong Xunwu can’t enter the Bai Family gate, he’d surely plot against the Jiang Family.

”Zhihe, let’s go, we’ll talk to Aunt and Zhiyi,” she grabbed Jiang Zhihe’s hand, heading inside.

Soon they found Jiang Zhiyi, but Jiang Chenshi was enthusiastically chatting with Mrs. Bo, therefore Bai Ruozhu was reluctant to interrupt, thinking to talk with Jiang Zhiyi’s sisters instead.

She pulled the two aside and quietly related the incident that happened outside the main gate.

Jiang Zhiyi almost screamed, ”He...”

She quickly lowered her voice, ”He must have done it intentionally; how can he be so shameless?”

”I heard he sought refuge with his superior and friends in vain; no one was willing to take him in,” Bai Ruozhu replied, ”My elder brother and sister-in-law have already sent the people away, but I’m afraid he might come to you next, so be mentally prepared.”

Jiang Zhihe frowned, ”If his servant brings him to our doorstep, it would really make us look unkind.”

”It’s okay, I’ll handle it when the time comes, don’t worry, little sister,” Jiang Zhiyi said sternly.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t know what Jiang Zhiyi had planned, but she knew Jiang Zhiyi was determined, and wouldn’t shrink back even a bit.
