Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1948: Chapter 1947: Not Destined for a Daughter

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh. Her mother had only just started having contractions; otherwise, how could she have the leisure to scold her second brother?

This woman is quite something. Regardless of age, pre-birth can make anyone act a little spoiled.

”Alright, I’ll go and scold Second Brother. He’s been kneeling outside, getting in the way,” Bai Ruozhu said on purpose.

Sure enough, Lin Ping’er’s face changed a bit; he had been kneeling all this time? The weather was getting cold, and it would be terrible for his knees.

”Tell him to get lost, so he doesn’t bother my eyes.” Lin Pinger finished speaking but was still not at ease, adding, ”No kneeling. Just seeing it makes me angry.”

Bai Ruozhu held back her laughter, ”Okay, I’ll go scold him now.”

She opened the door wide on purpose. Since it wasn’t time for the birth yet, it was fine to keep the door open, allowing her mother to see the situation outside more clearly.

”Second Brother, you heard what Mom said. Get up and stay aside, don’t upset Mom,” Bai Ruozhu said with a straight face.

Bai Zepei stood up, quietly moved to the side, and then looked at Bai Ruozhu, ”Is Mom okay?”

”You made her so angry that she almost delivered early, what do you think?” Bai Ruozhu said irritably. Originally, her mother still had about ten days until her due date.

”I...” Bai Zepei’s face turned stiff, ”Persuade Mom.”

Bai Ruozhu glanced inside the room out of the corner of her eye. Her mother was indeed craning her neck to look, so she immediately put on a serious face and said, ”Bai Zepei, weren’t you quite sensible and filial before? What’s going on today? You’re joining the army and making a mess. Why tell Mom about it now? Aren’t you making her worry?”

Bai Zepei glanced at Bai Ruozhu, his eyes dimmed a bit, ”Everyone outside is watching our Bai Family. I can’t not speak up about this.”

”So you can distress Mom? Couldn’t you wait to talk about it after she gives birth?” Bai Ruozhu widened her eyes and said.

Inside the room, Lin Ping’er kept sighing. Why talk about waiting until after she gives birth; he just shouldn’t go at all!

At this time, Jiang Yichun got the news, brought Dengdeng along, and hurried over. Seeing Bai Ruozhu scolding Bai Zepei, he decided to stay away a bit to avoid making Bai Zepei too embarrassed.

Bai Zepei kept quiet with pursed lips. It was Bai Yihong who jumped in to say, ”Daughter, it wasn’t your second brother who said it; the Holy Edict arrived, saying the wedding with the Si Family is set for half a month later. Your mother and I found it odd and pressed him about it.”

Half a month, that time is indeed quite rushed. The dowry and new house probably can’t be prepared with much finesse. No wonder her parents were questioning it.

This means the army probably sets off in a little over half a month.

Second Brother probably realized he couldn’t hide it, so he had to tell the truth, which ended up like this...

Bai Ruozhu, although not approving of Second Brother joining the army, couldn’t bring herself to scold him seeing his guilty expression.

”Second Brother, why is your face so pale? I haven’t even scolded you much. Look how angry you made Mom. Her condition is far more serious than yours,” Bai Ruozhu deliberately said loudly, glancing toward the room where her mother showed a worried expression.

”Why are your eyes all red? Are you feeling wronged? Mom is more aggrieved; she raised you so attentively, cared about your schooling, worried about your marriage. Just when she’s about to enjoy life, she has to worry about you going to the front lines. Feeling guilty now is too late; reflect on yourself well.”

Bai Zepei quickly glanced at Bai Ruozhu, thinking his eyes weren’t red; she’s making him sound like a fragile little maiden.

Bai Yihong and Bai Zehao were dumbfounded for a moment but soon realized Bai Ruozhu was winking at them. They finally understood; Bai Ruozhu was trying to soothe her mother’s temper first.

In the room, not hearing Bai Zepei’s voice, Lin Ping’er felt a bit worried. The second son was always reserved and held everything inside; if Ruozhu scolded too harshly, what if he fell ill from the guilt?

”Ruozhu, come in,” Lin Pinger bit her lip. After all, her heart ached for her son, and she decided to let him off for now.

”Coming!” Bai Ruozhu called out happily, turned around, and ran back into the room. As she closed the door, she stealthily made an OK sign to the people outside. Although the maid didn’t understand it, the Bai Family had long been accustomed to Bai Ruozhu’s peculiar gestures and terms, instantly grasping her meaning.

Lin Pinger, having given birth a few times, soon experienced intensified contractions and began labor, though her age showed as she tired out midway.

”Mom, don’t be upset. At least Second Brother will marry soon, and he’s not leaving immediately. Maybe with a bit of effort at the wedding, Second Sister-in-law might get pregnant,” Bai Ruozhu winked at Lin Ping’er, trying to distract her mother by chatting to ease her pain.

Lin Pinger grunted weakly, ”You’ve got so much medicine, I’ll count on you then.”

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback. She only mentioned Second Sister-in-law might get pregnant; who knew her mother was so extreme, even talking about using medicine. The desperation to have grandchildren really lowers some limits.

”Anyway, you should have your postpartum month well. Let Big Sister-in-law handle Second Brother’s wedding. It’s time you let her manage the household a bit. This way, the servants will also respect her more,” Bai Ruozhu continued.

”Alright, I’ll listen to you. I’ll just look after the children and play with Dengdeng and the little ones from now on. The house is livelier with more kids now, just waiting for Second Brother’s next one,” Lin Ping’er felt a bit better, but soon cried out in pain again.

Bai Ruozhu massaged her mother while guiding her breathing, and soon enough, her mother successfully delivered a chubby baby.

”Quick, is it a boy or a girl?” Lin Ping’er, exhausted, was most eager to know if she had a daughter.

Bai Ruozhu’s face showed a bit of embarrassment as she carefully said, ”It’s a boy.”

Lin Pinger’s face suddenly turned red with anger, ”Why? Why does our family always have boys? Aren’t we destined to have daughters?”

Bai Ruozhu twitched her mouth, ”Mom, calm down. If we’re not destined for daughters, then where did I pop out from? At least you have me as a daughter, and Guizhi as an adopted one. Look at me, I’ve had three stinky boys.”

Seeing her daughter sweaty and almost in tears, Lin Ping’er somehow felt a bit better. Well, at least she already had a daughter, she wasn’t the worst off.

”You rest for a bit, I’ll watch over you,” Bai Ruozhu thought, shedding tears in her heart, how filial she was, using her own predicament to comfort her mother.

No comparison, no harm; Mom, you’re too easily comforted.

The midwife assisting couldn’t believe her ears. Which family would have such a reaction to a son being born? They wouldn’t even look at the son and complained about not having a daughter. What kind of family tradition does the Bai Family have?

So, rumors of the Bai Family always having sons and preferring daughters spread quickly in Beiyu City, noting their unhappiness with sons and joy with daughters.
