Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1939: Chapter 1938: The Last Priest

Bai Ruozhu shared her plans to leave with Sangta, and Sangta immediately agreed, but the sadness in his eyes couldn’t be hidden. Bai Ruozhu saw it but pretended not to, as she couldn’t give him any response. Dragging things out would only create misunderstandings.

Bai Ruozhu had decided on Jiang Yichun for this lifetime. No matter how good others were, she could only apologize.

”Remember to use the scar-removal medication, don’t keep that scar,” Bai Ruozhu suddenly turned her head to say before she left the tent and bent down to exit.

Sangta bitterly smiled and touched his face, where the scar still slanted across. What was he trying to hold onto?

Soon after Bai Ruozhu went over to Ao Song’s side, Dujin suddenly came running.

He knelt on the ground with a thud, saying, ”Madam Bai, I beg you to stay a bit longer. The Barbarian Tribe is severely weakened now, and the king’s health hasn’t recovered. He needs your help!”

Bai Ruozhu thought of Sangta’s eyes and felt some discomfort, but she quickly steeled her face and said, ”I’m not from the Barbarian Tribe; I’ve helped as much as I can. For you all to rise again, you’ll have to rely on yourselves. Depending on others isn’t a long-term strategy. I think Sangta has his abilities; he won’t fall at this time.”

Dujin refused to get up, ”But... we don’t even have a priest. How will we protect ourselves in the future? The Barbarian Tribe is already small in number and without a fixed abode, needing to migrate from time to time. Without the priest’s protection, what will we do in the future?”

Ao Song, impatiently beside, said, ”So Sangrong died, didn’t he? That old man was blind and foolish, so he died. Just choose a new priest then.”

”You don’t know; the Barbarian Tribe has only one priest per generation. When the old priest is about to pass, they pass their lifelong divine power to the next priest. But now, with Priest Sangrong dead, he couldn’t transfer his power to a new priest. The position of priest is essentially interrupted.” Dujin said with a face full of pain.

The last priest? Bai Ruozhu frowned slightly, thinking the tribe’s secret techniques were too terrifying. Even if the heritage was stopped, it might not necessarily be a bad thing.

However, the Barbarian Tribe was ultimately weak, with the priest and Beast Team being their means of protection.

”Without a priest, you’ll have to find a way to cultivate one again. Many of your rules and habits are unreasonable and should be changed, including the aristocrats-only rule for owning Beast Pets. For commoners, they don’t have to strive for their entire lives, while aristocrats enjoy various protections. How many would fight desperately for further progress? Over time, the Barbarian Tribe would just polarize and head towards decline.”

Bai Ruozhu said all at once.

”Look at Zhongyuan; even the lowest-level people can study, participate in the Civil and Military Exam, and enter the court as officers. Even though they can’t compare with the Meritorious families, they have the motivation to strive. Also, with only one priest per generation, there are too many risk factors. If the priest gets greedy, selfishly seizes power, or is bribed by foreign tribes, will you wait for the entire tribe to be annihilated? And with the divine power-transfer method, doesn’t every successive priest not need to strive at all?”

”Without a priest, cultivate one; if one’s not enough, then cultivate two. You’re now just relying on the ancestor’s Secret Method to get by, without seeking progress?”

Ao Song blinked beside, thinking big sister Bai spoke well. Her family was the same; relying solely on the ancestor’s heritage would lead to decline after only a few generations.

At this time, applause came from the door, and Sangta walked in.

”I feared Dujin would cause you trouble, so I followed and didn’t expect to hear your arguments. Sangta is enlightened,” he said while bowing to Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”You’ve changed a lot; you’re humble and steady now.”

”Having gone through so many people and not learned to be calm, I wasn’t qualified to lead the Barbarian Tribe people forward,” he said and laughed too.

Ao Song bounced up angrily and said, ”What kind of ridiculous people just walk in; the tent’s all stinky now. I’m going out for air!”

After speaking, she walked out angrily. Sangta quickly turned and bowed to her, ”Miss Ao Song, thank you for saving us, I haven’t thanked you yet.”

Ao Song glared at him, ”No need; I helped big sister Bai, not you.”

After speaking, she strode out, and Qingfeng and the maids quickly followed.

Bai Ruozhu pressed her lips and stifled a laugh. Sangta turned his head to see, somewhat frustrated and said, ”You laugh so slyly, do you insist on seeing me make a fool of myself?”

”You’ve taken advantage of someone’s daughter and only thanked her for saving you. Don’t you find yourself quite skilled at shirking?” Bai Ruozhu scrutinized him with folded arms while Dujin laughed low beside. As a result, Sangta glared at him, immediately saying, ”I didn’t see anything.”

Actually, Dujin didn’t see clearly, but he could guess the gist.

Sangta’s face turned a bit awkward, scratched his head, and said, ”I felt dizzy at that time and don’t remember clearly; I’ll apologize to her.”

”Hurry and do that; I’m going to see how Achun’s preparations are going,” Bai Ruozhu exited the tent first after speaking.

Sangta hesitated a bit and said to Dujin beside, ”Accompany me to apologize.”

”I didn’t bump into the girl, why should I go? Besides, it’ll be awkward for her with me present.” Despite being rough, Dujin said the right thing.

”I... ”

Dujin didn’t wait for Sangta to finish and dashed off.

Sangta hesitated a bit in front of the girl’s tent, and eventually came out and went to find Ao Song.

”Miss Ao Song, about that day...” Sangta came forward to bow and began speaking.

Ao Song fiercely glared back, ”Shut up, nothing happened that day!”

Ming Yue nearby couldn’t help but laugh; Ao Song, furious, glared at her, and she immediately said, ”Miss, I remembered the talisman papers aren’t put away rightly; I’m going to put them away now.”

After speaking, Ming Yue dashed off, Qingfeng and others cleverly ran off too. They didn’t want to watch the Miss make a fool of herself. Otherwise, the Miss might use them as targets when she can’t help but laugh out loud.

”You all...” Ao Song angrily chased after them, but Sangta blocked the path. She pouted angrily and kicked Sangta, then continued running forward.

But after a few steps, she heard a thud, and Sangta, unwell, was heavily kicked and fell to the ground.

Ao Song was startled and quickly turned to look, ”Are you okay?”

Sangta bitterly climbed up, ”It’s okay; it was indeed my fault before. You can beat me to vent your anger.”

His face showed a desolate expression; when did Sangta Prince become so fragile? One touch and he’d fall?

Ao Song felt a bit sour in her heart, sighed, and walked back, ”Get up quickly, lest your tribe thinks I’m assassinating you and blame me.”

Sangta struggled to get up, ”No, you’re our Barbarian Tribe’s benefactor; they won’t say that about you again.”
