Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1941: Chapter 1940: Was It Her Fault They Died?

Bai Ruozhu looked closely and saw a man and a woman tightly leaning on each other, shouting for help towards the spot where she had just appeared with Xiaohei.

She recalled vaguely seeing figures in the distance earlier, but she had been in a rush to save Xiaohei and distracted by the sand blowing in her eyes, and hadn’t paid much attention.

”They seem to be people from the Western Regions based on their clothes,” Jiang Yichun said softly. ”In such sandstorm weather, who could possibly save them?”

The two struggled towards them, moving much closer, allowing Bai Ruozhu to see them more clearly.

The woman fell to the ground, and the man quickly lay down to protect her with his body, afraid she would be blown away by the wind.

For a moment, Bai Ruozhu remembered the last time she encountered a sandstorm, her aunt had protected her this way, but the wind and sand were too strong then, along with heavy objects flying around, eventually knocking her aunt unconscious.

She hesitated, ”Perhaps I should try to bring them inside?”

”You’re unable to bring outsiders in, aren’t you?” Jiang Yichun said, somewhat worried.

”I’ll give it a try. If it doesn’t work out, there’s nothing I can do. But if I do nothing, my conscience won’t be at ease.” Although she wasn’t a saint, she was moved by the man’s selfless act to protect the woman.

The woman’s cries could be heard outside, while the man seemed to have fainted.

”Be careful, don’t take too many risks.” Meeting her gaze, he held back his words of protest.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, quickly leaving the space, rushing over to tap the woman’s sleep acupoint, and swiftly carried someone back into the space.

Unfortunately, upon entering the space, she found her hands were empty; she couldn’t bring too many people in.

”Damn it, not only can I not save them, I also knocked the woman unconscious.” Bai Ruozhu rubbed her forehead, wondering if she was helping or harming.

The wind and sand grew stronger, quickly burying the pair, their figures no longer visible in the scene.

Jiang Yichun helped brush the sand off her while saying, ”You’ve done your best, don’t dwell on it.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”I wonder how the Barbarian Clan is doing. I’m really worried about your father and the others.”

”Don’t worry, the Barbarian Clan has ways to deal with sandstorms, they’ll be fine.” Jiang Yichun thought the Barbarian Clan had such a difficult year, having faced the Blood Array and now a sandstorm, probably the madness of Sangdian and Sangji attracted heavenly punishment.

The sandstorm finally passed after four hours, and outside became clearer. Although the weather wasn’t great, it was evident there wouldn’t be any more blowing sand and stones.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly took Jiang Yichun out of the space, started digging, even though she knew the chances of survival for those two were minimal, but she had to try.

After digging for a long time, they finally uncovered the couple. Bai Ruozhu cleared the Yellow Sand from their mouths and noses and performed CPR, but the pair remained lifelessly lying there.

”Ruozhu, you’ve done your best,” Jiang Yichun advised beside her.

Bai Ruozhu slumped to the ground in exhaustion, ”Forget it, let’s go.”

He went to help her up, and the two began to walk forward.

After just a few steps, a sudden fit of coughing echoed behind them, Bai Ruozhu quickly turned back, the man had woken up!

She and Jiang Yichun quickly went to support the man, patting his back to help his breathing. The man spat out a lot of sand, panting heavily, it took a while for his breathing to normalize.

”Xiaodan, how is Xiaodan?” The man suddenly reacted, turning to find the accompanying woman, he found her lying quietly on the ground.

He lifted the woman, desperately patting her back, ”Breathe! Didn’t you practice the Holding Breath Skill at all?”

He kept patting her, but unfortunately, the woman didn’t cough, her eyes remained closed, she was silent.

The man began to cry, ”I told you to practice the Holding Breath Skill properly, why didn’t you listen? It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have taken you away from Gaochang to find the princess at Danliang, else you’d still be alive!”

Bai Ruozhu tugged on Jiang Yichun’s sleeve, she roughly understood the two were siblings from Gaochang and might even know Yingtong.

Moreover, due to their family’s Holding Breath Skill, the man survived being buried by sand for so long, but the woman wasn’t as fortunate.

No matter how much he tried, the man couldn’t awaken his sister, eventually crying out holding her body. After a while, he turned to Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun, ”You two dug us out?”

Bai Ruozhu felt her throat dry, if she hadn’t tapped the woman’s acupoint, would she have survived like her brother?

Jiang Yichun nodded, ”We thought you both had passed.”

”During the sandstorm, I saw it was you,” the man said, his voice choked. ”How did you manage to escape?”

Jiang Yichun was slightly displeased and answered with a stern face, ”Our inner strength is profound, we can only ensure ourselves from being blown away by the sandstorm.”

The man was silent for a while, then turned and said, ”Thank you, if it weren’t for you digging me out, even waking up I couldn’t breathe, I’d be dead here anyway.”

”It was nothing,” Jiang Yichun replied, his tone wasn’t as cold as before.

”Since we’re not far from the Western Regions, you should take your sister back there first,” Bai Ruozhu gathered herself and advised the man.

”I can’t go back. I’ll bury my sister and continue traveling. Thank you both. May I know your names? If I get a chance, I, Jian Zhen, will surely repay your life-saving grace,” the man said, kneeling on the ground and bowing to the two.

”It was just a small favor, hopefully, we meet again, be careful.” Jiang Yichun pulled Bai Ruozhu, quickly heading into the distance.

They walked for a long time, and once the man’s silhouette was out of sight, they returned to the space.

”Achun, do you think because I tapped that woman’s acupoint, she couldn’t survive?” Bai Ruozhu was on the verge of tears, thinking she shouldn’t have interfered if she couldn’t help, and now feeling so distressed.

”Don’t overthink it. Look, even Jian Zhen fainted, but he survived using the breath holding skill. It’s because the woman was not good at practicing it, her brother even said she didn’t train well, it’s not your fault,” Jiang Yichun comforted her.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, but still felt uncomfortable inside. She initially wanted to take the woman into the space, so she thought of knocking her out to bring her in peacefully, not expecting she couldn’t bring her in at all.

For the rest of the day, Bai Ruozhu was sullen, and Jiang Yichun didn’t mention the matter again. He took her to the small town near the Western Regions’ border, they ate some regional food and bought a camel, then headed back.

Jiang Yichun’s horse was blown away by the sandstorm to who knows where, and after the sandstorm, the roads were hard to navigate, so riding a camel was better.

Bai Ruozhu continued riding Xiaohei. One of them carried Dengdeng, while the other had Tiaotiao strapped to their chest, taking their time on the journey, improving the atmosphere a lot.

Halfway on their journey, they saw a Beast Team charging from afar, excitedly cheering upon seeing them.
