Chapter 754: Chapter 756: A Misunderstanding, Sobering Up to Save Someone

Tears had already wet her eyes; if Jiang Yichun was simply hurt, Bai Ruozhu wouldn’t be so emotional. Yet, he happened to be stricken by Wu Wanqing’s poisonous insect, and the old man had said that once injured or poisoned, the consequences would be unthinkable.

”Achun, how are you?” Bai Ruozhu dashed forward to embrace the person on the stretcher, promptly being lifted by the scruff of her neck by a guard from behind.

Bai Ruozhu thought the guard was preventing her from touching Jiang Yichun. Just as she was about to lose her temper, she suddenly realized this action felt familiar. Jiang Yichun, the jerk, used to lift her like this! She struggled, turning her head to look- wasn’t the person holding her Jiang Yichun?

Jiang Yichun didn’t give her the chance to speak; he directly carried her into the yard. He swiftly ordered the guards to shut the main gate and had the Imperial Guards strictly guard it.

Seeing him unharmed, her heart instantly lifted. The tension she had felt before made her unable to hold back her tears, which cascaded down.

”You thought something happened to me?” Jiang Yichun’s voice was low, carrying a suppressed hint of amusement.

Bai Ruozhu could tell he was making fun of her, her glare was filled with annoyance. She was worried sick about him! How heartless!

At this thought, she steadied herself, rolled her eyes at him, then turned, getting hold of Lin Zhenghui’s arm and huffed, ”Master, let’s continue our drink. Let’s ignore the bores.”

Lin Zhenghui shook his head at Jiang Yichun, signaling he’d crossed the line.

Jiang Yichun watched the two enter the house, gestured to the people behind him, and quickly followed them in.

”Ruozhu, don’t be mad, one of my subordinates was seriously injured and poisoned while trying to save me. Please, look at him quickly.” Jiang Yichun could not laugh anymore, he sounded rather anxious.

Bai Ruozhu hesitated. How could she have been so drunk, not realizing that he wasn’t the one lying on the stretcher? Who was it then? And how was he saved by his subordinate in the palace? Could there have been an assassination attempt?

She didn’t have time to be mad at him and quickly went to look at the man on the stretcher. The person’s physique was remarkably similar to Jiang Yichun, so it was no wonder she’d confused the two.

The man had a long and deep wound on his chest with the sternum exposed. Despite the bandage, he was bleeding profusely, and that blood was black. A sign of poisoning at first glance.

Bai Ruozhu now understood why Jiang Yichun couldn’t treat him himself. Such a large wound definitely needed suturing. She started to sway a little, then instructed La Mei, ”Prepare a bowl of hangover soup for me.”

After saying this, she glared at Jiang Yichun and said, ”Couldn’t you have sent someone back to give me a heads up? I’ve been drinking and now I’m slightly dizzy. How can I accurately insert and suture the needle?”

If she had known there would be patients with such severe injuries, she would not have drunk. But isn’t this all because of him? She was annoyed because he hadn’t returned, so she wanted to drown her sorrows.

Jiang Yichun’s face didn’t look too good. He lowered his voice and said, ”There was an assassination attempt in the palace, and the Emperor sealed the news.”

Bai Ruozhu exchanged glances with Lin Zhenghui. They both had an uneasy feeling. If the Emperor was unharmed, why would the news be suppressed? It thus appeared that the Emperor might have been injured, or even poisoned.

La Mei had handed the baby, Dengdeng to Jiang Yichun. She then headed to the small kitchen to prepare the hangover soup for Bai Ruozhu. Actually, they had a hangover soup mix that Bai Ruozhu had prepared which could be quickly boiled.

”Why hasn’t Dengdeng’s rash faded?” Seeing his son’s face covered with a rash, Jiang Yichun asked worriedly.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t sent a secret letter to Jiang Yichun about the poisonous insect matter because it was too important. She feared that the information might leak out. Right now, there were imperial guards inside the house, so Bai Ruozhu could only shake her head and say, ”It will get better in a few days. I’ll explain it more later. I need to try and save him first.”

After saying this, she took out a silver needle and began to insert it into the guard to stop the bleeding. But it was clear that her hand was trembling and her needling speed was a lot slower than usual.

Before she had finished needling, La Mei brought over the hangover soup. Bai Ruozhu inserted the last two needles, then started sipping the hot hangover soup.

Her hangover soup had an immediate sobering effect, she quickly wrote a prescription for Jiang Yichun, instructing him about the detoxification medicine, and then started cleaning the guard’s wound.

”Let me.” Jiang Yichun grabbed the cloth with a slight frown. He was unhappy that Bai Ruozhu had to touch another man, even if it was to save one of his subordinates.

Bai Ruozhu nodded and indicated that she was going to find tools to suture the wound. Actually, everything was in her space, but it wouldn’t do to pull them out while others were around. She walked into the room as if to search the cupboards, then took out the suturing needle, catgut sutures, and homemade alcohol from her space.

By that time, Jiang Yichun had finished cleaning the man’s wound. The guard had woken up and seeing Jiang Yichun cleaning his wound, he was so touched he broke down in tears.

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched. In her heart, she thought that the people of ancient times were indeed simple beings who were easily moved.

By this time, she was no longer drunk and began to put in the needles to numb the pain for the guard before preparing for the suturing.

Suddenly, Jiang Yichun spoke to the Imperial Guards in the room, ”You all please wait outside.”

Once everyone left, he pressed the guard’s sleeping acupoint and only then did he let Bai Ruozhu start stitching. Bai Ruozhu felt careless; if he hadn’t stopped her, she would have definitely stitched in front of everyone else. She sighed secretly to herself. After all, she wasn’t an ancient person, and she wasn’t detailed enough in many respects.

Only after Bai Ruozhu finished suturing the guard’s wound did Jiang Yichun tell her and Lin Zhenghui what had happened. However, he didn’t dare say too much and summarised the assassination attempt at the palace and the Emperor’s order to seal the news. He asked them not to let any outsiders know.

”Young Jiang, who are those Imperial Guards outside?” Lin Zhenghui couldn’t help asking.

Jiang Yichun said solemnly, ”Due to my contribution to eradicating the bandits this time, the Emperor hasn’t had time to grant me an official title, but directly appointed me as the leader of the Imperial Guards and gave me a small team of Imperial Guards to manage.”

Bai Ruozhu was happy for Jiang Yichun. The Imperial Guards were directly responsible for protecting the Emperor and had to be exceptional. The more powerful the people around him were, the safer he would be. Plus, this showed that he could now leave the Public Relations Department. However, did this mean he would not be able to return to Beiyu City for a while?

Thinking of this, her expression dimmed again. Judging from the Emperor’s attitude towards her this time in the capital, the Emperor didn’t seem to like her very much. It was possible that at any time, Sun Chengchao, the Public Relation Officer, could use her as a pretext to shut her down.

”Well done, each one of the Imperial Guards is brave. Congratulations.” Lin Zhenghui said with a smile.

Jiang Yichun, however, walked to the table, dipped his finger in tea, and started writing on the table.

”They may not necessarily be loyal to me. We have to be careful with what we say.” With his back to the door, he blocked the texts with his body. Lin Zhenghui and Bai Ruozhu could see what he wrote, the people outside could not.

Bai Ruozhu furrowed her brows- being this careful could only mean that he and the Emperor had discovered many traitors within the court.
