I Just Started College, How Could I Become a Part-Time Papa?!

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Crushing the Golden Grandson

After watching the little squirrels, the two went to the lakeside to watch the fish for a while.

The experience wasn’t exactly what you’d call joyful, but it was certainly relaxing.

Breathing in the fresh air and taking in the beautiful scenery, Chen Yuan even felt this was a place worth visiting a second time.

He then had a profound realization: in ten years at most, he would be the type of person who goes to parks to take pictures of flowers and plants, posts them on his social media feed, and never gets tired of it.

While wiping her shoes, Song Jianye chatted with Uncle Zhang for a bit.

From the way he spoke, it was clear he truly saw Song Jianye as a daughter, yet he maintained a great deal of restraint, sticking to his duty as a driver.

While Song Jianye was watching the fish, Uncle Zhang even went and bought a small net. He didn’t manage to catch any fish, but he did snag a loach, which he put in a plastic water bottle. That was the day’s prize.

After their park outing ended, Uncle Zhang drove the two of them back to the university.

”Uncle Zhang, please pull over here,” Chen Yuan said.

”Is something the matter?”

Uncle Zhang asked casually as he stopped the car.

”I’m going to the driving school to ask about signing up.”

”You’re both adults now. It’s a good idea to get your driver’s licenses while you have the time.”

Uncle Zhang was a driver, and in his mind, every single adult should go get a license.

Even if Song Jianye might never need to drive herself in her entire life, he still supported her getting one.

”Miss, why don’t you get a license too?”

”Should I practice a little before I try to take the test?”

Song Jianye wasn’t against getting a license at all; she just had a different idea about it.

”You definitely shouldn’t practice. Driving school instructors love students who know absolutely nothing. They get most annoyed by the ones who are half-taught.”

Chen Yuan didn’t quite understand why, but since Uncle Zhang was a veteran driver, he figured there must be a good reason for him to say that.

”Oh, okay. I’ll go sign up too.”

Uncle Zhang subconsciously started to unbuckle his seatbelt, intending to help her register, but then he saw that Song Jianye seemed to want to go with Chen Yuan.

Uncle Zhang smiled and didn’t follow them.

’She’s already had her 18th birthday. It’s about time she started handling some things on her own and learning to navigate the world.’

Once they arrived at the driving school, Song Jianye’s demeanor was completely different from how she was at the botanical garden.

This wasn’t her home turf, so she could only trail quietly behind Chen Yuan.

Chen Yuan had never been here before either, though. After going upstairs and asking for directions, he finally found the registration office.

After they paid, a staff member had them download an app that had practice questions for the written test.

They were told to study on their own first, then take the practice exam on a computer. Once they scored over 90, the school would register them for the official written test.

When the two came out, Uncle Zhang was still waiting outside. He drove them back to the university.

”Uncle Zhang, please take care of the little loach for me when you get back,” Song Jianye said before getting out of the car.

”Understood, Miss.”

Back at the university, they went their separate ways to their respective dorm rooms.

Sun Pengnan was in his underwear, wriggling with great difficulty in the dorm room as he did his rehabilitation exercises.

”Boss, what were you up to last night? Don’t tell me you took a girl out for the night.”

”Such baseless accusations. Your mind is always in the gutter. When you have free time, you should contemplate the meaning of life instead of wasting your college years.”

Bored of staying in the dorm, Chen Yuan went to play basketball. He went to the cafeteria when it got dark, and after eating, he even brought a meal back for Sun Pengnan.

There was a photo on his phone from Jiang Wanyi.

It was a picture of her trophies—she had already collected three bags.

One more time tomorrow, and she should be all set without any more worries.

There were also a few messages from the class president, Zheng Wenkai. On the last day before the October 1st holiday, he was organizing a viewing of the school’s history for the first-year students. The event would also prominently feature the new academician recruited this year, and they had to write a reflection paper afterward.

’They really don’t know how to do anything but show off, do they?’

The class president was nagging everyone in the group chat to turn in their papers quickly.

’Hurry, hurry, hurry. What’s the rush? You think you won’t live to see the 8th?’

Besides the messages from the class president, there was also one from Li Yingying, the arts committee representative.

After the holiday, the university was holding a ”Top Ten Campus Singers” competition, and she was encouraging everyone in the class to sign up.

’Nothing important. I have no interest in getting involved in that kind of thing anyway. I’ll just be a quiet, handsome face in the crowd.’

After the lights went out at night, Chen Yuan was chatting with Jiang Wanyi. The conversation was mostly about the baby.

BZZZ BZZZ BZZZ—

It was a message from Song Jianye.

points.

’What kind of god-tier study genes does she have?’

Chen Yuan: ”It’s only been a few hours and you already scored a 92?”

Song Jianye: ”It’s not consistent. Most of the time I’m in the 80s. This was the only time I got a 92.”

Chen Yuan: ”Slow down and wait for me. We’re supposed to conquer Central State together.”

Song Jianye: ”I’m definitely not as fast a learner as you. You should wait for me instead.”

Song Jianye: ”I think you’re smarter than me.”

Chen Yuan: ”Your feeling is correct.”

’Can’t scroll through thirst traps tonight. Time to get serious and grind through these written test questions.’

A dozen or so minutes later, another message from Song Jianye came in.

Song Jianye: ”You went to the basketball court to play today.”

’Did she see me when she passed by?’

Just as Chen Yuan was about to reply, a second message arrived.

Song Jianye: ”And someone brought you water.”

’This...’

’How should I reply to that...’

’I fell asleep, didn’t see it...’

...

「The next morning.」

He picked up his phone to reply to Song Jianye.

Chen Yuan: ”Fell asleep yesterday, didn’t see it.”

After sending the message, Chen Yuan yawned, got dressed, and went to wash up.

”Boss, it’s already ten o’clock, how are you not awake yet? What were you doing last night...?” Sun Pengnan asked slyly.

”Wielding the ultimate imperial weapon to reign supreme across the ages.”

”Whoa, what’s that from? Which novel is that?”

”My 26-Year-Old Female Tenant.”

Sun Pengnan excitedly pulled out his phone, then looked at Chen Yuan warily.

”It doesn’t have any... *colorful* scenes, does it? I can’t be looking at that stuff right now.”

”Don’t worry, it doesn’t.”

”Alright, I’ll go check it out.”

He had to go to Jiang Wanyi’s place today, so after washing up, Chen Yuan left his dorm. He grabbed a quick bite at the cafeteria and then headed over.

’Huh?’

There was a note taped to the door.

Chen Yuan knocked on the door and tore the note down.

Building Rules:

As I am joyfully expecting a golden grandson, to ensure the health of the fetus, the following building rules are now in effect.

1: No use of WiFi, induction cookers, or anything else that can generate electromagnetic waves.

2: No watching TV or using cell phones after 9 p.m. to avoid radiation that could affect the baby’s development.

3: Prohibited...

...

4: All perfumes, cosmetics, and skincare products are forbidden.

These rules are effective starting today. All residents must comply, or you will be responsible for the consequences.

’What the hell is this crap?’

Just then, Jiang Wanyi opened the door. She was wearing a slip dress, revealing a little bit of cleavage.

’Even a little bit is cute.’

”What are you looking at?”

”Someone posted this on your door.” Chen Yuan handed her the note.

After reading it, Jiang Wanyi frowned deeply.

”Do they have no common sense at all? This is completely unreasonable.”

”It’s pretty ridiculous. Which one is your Wi-Fi network?”

”You’re not actually going to turn it off, are you?”

”I’m going to change the name. I’ll call it ’Invincible Heart-Piercing Wi-Fi Releasing Uranium-235 Super-Radiation to Obliterate the Golden Grandson’.”
